Drafting a Cmon Army:Banding for charity

From what I\'ve seen of the Ogre Kingdoms Figures there is/are a lot of flesh tones to paint. I think we need to set a couple of guidelines/ground rules.
For example what colour basis do we do the flesh tones ? Healthy with a reddish glow , Grey and sickly or just try to give enough leeway for the individual to get in the close but not exact field?

Also I would strongly suggest we use Mettalic paints instead of going for NMM.

As we are trying to get the best purchase price for the completed army it would in my opinion be most effective if there was a commonality of the overall feel regarding the two areas I mentioned. Clothing I do not think is a big an issue, due to the probable mismatch of attire such an army would have.

I know that we are looking to get a commonality with bases. Can we decide to go for either Groundforge resin\'s or make our own with Cork etc...?

Opinions anyone?

ok, I\'ll take the bases thing by the horns and run with it as part of my contribution to the project (in addition to painting a mini of course). Perhaps the easiest way is once we figure out army and then base type, I can make an order from Mr. Munkie to send to TAB so when the minis are distributed the bases can go in the same package? Alternately if that doesn\'t coordinate well I can always make an order and then distribute them myself, at least to the US people!

I\'m happy to absorb the cost of this part of it.

Also I think we should each make sure to perhaps sign the bottom or side of each mini (well it\'s base), as we have some very known artists involved (Tammy) and might up the value some.

Bases accounted for I believe

Yes some guidelines are definetly needed to make the army look like an army but you dont want to limit the painters to much, therefore a happy medium is needed. I guess the main thing is to decide on the army and then go from there, was someone going to start a poll?

A little something about ogres...

These new Ogres from the Ogre Kingdoms are a little different from the normal old world ogres. They are a lot less like enormous fat men and a lot more monstrous. The skin tone reflects this... As far as I am aware, the flesh tones for an Ogre Kingdoms Ogre is a Graveyard earth and Shadow Grey mix basecoat highlighted with commando khaki...

Again I think metallics is the best idea for these guys too, and i think something like copper/bronze belly plates and then steel for the other metals would make for a cohesive looking force. We should also decide on a warpaint colour... i would say dark blue or white. Topped off with Groundforge bases...

Things like that will make the army look together, even though a number of different people painted them.

just some ideas :D

Here are some of the ideas that have come up :

*) Ogre Kingdoms;
*) Warmachine mercenary unit;
*) Cryx from Warmachine;
*) Wolfens or Devorers;
*) Witch Hunters;
*) Demon Hunters;
*) WFB Chaos;
*) WFB Orks;
*) WFB Bretonians;
*) Dogs Of War;
*) and just for the fun of it, I\'m adding Drunken Dwarves ;).

If you really want cohesive, get one person to do the bases.

I don\'t think groundforge has that many different 40mm square bases, but I could make up some more in a similar style if required.

ok please add me to the painters list of you dont mind
the problem with ogres is that many stuff will retail in the future and ist yet released, so the army list is rather limited but i was planing to buy an ogre bull set just for the sake of painting and i would be glad to \"donate\" them after finishing :)
anyhow, if something else than ogres should win ... whatever then i\'ll paint the other stuff! :flip:

oh and btw:

i think the sin tone isnt a problem
that gw is giving them all the same color doenst mean that others have to do that ... i mean why should ogres all have the same skintone? humans dont have either, even if from the same country, city or even household!
the only thing we should do equally are the war painting (but again: why should all ogres have 100% identical tatoos? wouldnt make much sense) on their skin and the base theme.
i would refrain from anything than gw bases since i think they are forbidden in tournaments, what could be a factor for any potentional buyer

just my 2 cents! :)

Yeah for Ogres, the Graveyard Earth skin tone is a good way to go, it is quick and easy to do plus the GW colours are colours that will be available to most people easily.
Plenty of rust on the metallics of the weapons is a way to go and is quite heavily featured in the fluff.

No, that\'s OK, let\'s just stick to the Ogres. Tammy and Peter are right about the GW factor.

IMHO, skintones don\'t really need to be 100% the same, but a dominance would make a more coherent army. On the other hand, tatoos or paint marks should be the same color, at least for the main troops. I like Peter\'s suggestion for blue or white markings.

Concerning the bases, how about having snow on them?

Well, I\'m off to the GW store to see about the army list (but please, if other gamers have lists in mind, please share them :)).

The basic army deal is a good guide for a force .

In that you have

1x Ogre Tyrant

2x units of 4 Ogre Bulls

1x unit of 4 Ogre Iron Guts

1x unit of 20 Gnoblars

1x unit of 3 Ogre Yhetees

8 Gnoblar Trappers.

I appreciate that this is not a large army but that is a basic force with units that are currently available (I think).
obviously unit sizes can be larger but that is the basic force in the Army Deal Box.

Im off to GW myself in a while to hopefully get some lead belchers for my own army.

Becca told me we are 23 at the moment. Is everybody planning on painting one mini, or do some of you have enough time for more?

Depending on what unit size you are looking at I can manage a unit of bulls 3 to 4 strong, in fact I have a part painted unit on my paintstation staring out at me now to get on with.

To be honest I\'m with Tammy on this. I think that I\'d be better doing a single figure to the best of my abilities rather than a unit.
But I\'m open to persuasion. (OK Arm twisting. :) )
