Drafting a Cmon Army:Banding for charity

Pulled from the GW site, if someone can get their hands on an army box:

The Ogre Kingdoms Army boxed set contains one (1) exclusive Ogre Bruiser, one(1) Ogre Hunter with two (2) Sabretusks, twenty-four (24) Gnoblar Fighters, eight (8) Gnoblar Trappers, eight (8) Ogre Bulls, four (4) Ogre Ironguts, three (3) Ogre Yhetees, and the Warhammer Armies: Ogre Kingdoms book.

Personally I would love to get my hands (brushes?) on the Hunter, but I suspect there would be some competition for that job in project!

Also, while I would love to help out with a unit of ogres, my time and mental ability might limit me to just one model, whatever model that may be.
:(

I was thinking that all of the top most painters among us should be assigned to the characters/special troops/rare troops in order to make it a jaw dropping army and make the bids go high (do note that by saying this, I have no intention to diminish anybody\'s talents ;)).

Besides, conversions are most welcomed, even on normal troops, to make this army unique. So I think everybody can have fun in this project and most of all contribute to the cause :).

I had forgotten about the Ogre Hunter in the army box now that is a very nice model.

Just got back from GW the lead belchers are released next weekend. They are available in the battalion box which is actually very good value for money.

Due to time constraints I\'ll only be able to do one model. Of course I\'d love to do one of the fancy ones, but actually even the bulls look pretty fun to paint.

I think as long as we decide on a common palette of colours the army should look cohesive.

Side question: can you use the hunter without the sabertusks, and what section is he in? (hero, special?)

I can paint up more than one model if it comes down to it and I don\'t really have a preference on what model or type that I paint as I know a good many here are chomping at the bit to get the special types and all.

I \"might\" have some very good news

I was at my local GW store looking up the Ogres when one of the sales persons came up and asked me if I was thinking of starting them. I explained to him what we had in mind. So he went to see his boss and told him about it. His boss said that GW was looking to help out after what happened in Asia. They are communicating arround the Red Cross and it\'s efforts and are searching for other ways to help. So they thought it was really a good idea and gave me the GW French Events Manager\'s number to see about getting the minis donated by GW.

Usually I would have waited to get a confirmation on the donation, but since I\'m calling him on Monday, I would like to have a list of your names (CMON and real), current CMON placing, the list of any painting trophies you might have won, and whether or not you have worked in the mini industry (if, of course, you don\'t mind giving that kind of information) so that I can show that we have serious and talented people on this project.

Thanks in advance :).

Ok, some questions:
- How do you want us to do this? Do you want us to send you a pm?
- What\'s the \"CMON placing\"? Is that our ranking? I have to say, in case some people are worried about mine, that all the minis posted on my gallery are a few years old. I like to think that I paint a little better than that now, and I can certainly paint above tabletop quality.

Sorry for the long explanation, but I really want to be a part of this :)

My Real name is Tim Cook

I have been painting minis for about 27 years though that probably doesn\'t show in my work.

I have one one minor Trophy which was the National painting contest GW in house thingy and it was the single miniature category with Brother Captain Stern.

I am not currently ranked although I am getting closer ( that has not been important to me so I haven\'t been pushing for votes. Until today that is).

If there is anything else you require then just ask.
Funny thing was I was in GW Lento store and was explaining the exact same thing in there and did not get an ounce of interest. Your GW must be more friendly than mine.

@Galante : good question, I suppose the place you are ranked and your mean score would be even better. Just post the info here. I\'ll be giving the GW people the URL so if they want to check up on how serious we are, it would be good to have everything here. Don\'t worry about your ranking, if they see 20+ motivated people they\'ll know we\'re serious about this and will do everything to make it work ;).

@tidoco2222 : I\'ve known them since a while and they are really good chaps :).

Well, I have no problems posting this here.

My name is Bruno Galante, I live in Portugal and have been painting for seven years now.
The only thing I have that could qualify as a painting trophy is to be one of the five finalists at the Void online painting competition (I\'m currently in the second position).

Well my name is arthur muguet, I\'m 18 and no trophy for me. I guess my basic painting level would be around a low seven, 7,6 if I really take my time and find the patience :p

Fantastic work Green Stuff, I\'m glad to hear that there is some possible interest from GW in this, certainly makes a person warm and fuzzy knowing others are willing to get involved as well!

Anyhow, ya\'ll all know know me more or less, but for the sake of the thread and for Green Stuffs efforts here ya go.

I\'m Nathan Caroland, currently living in Woodstock, GA in the USA. I used to paint when I was younger but I have recently gotten back into it and I think my painting is coming along nicely. My current ranking is changing (for the better) on a weekly basis as I paint more and of course you can find my CMON ranking in my signature. Currently I haven\'t won any contests but that being said, I\'ve got my eye on a contest here in March and I feel that I\'ve got a damn good chance of walking away with the prize (specially after seeing all the other \'paint gods\' at work there).

As for the actualy army itself, I think that if it is managed correctly, everyone gets on board with the same paint schemes and bases (we\'ll want to make certain they are tournament legal I\'m sure) then we can make a very memorable moment, a fantastic looking army and of course, do something great for the \'world community\' so to speak. Personally I hope GW jumps on board with this, but even if they don\'t, as I\'ve stated before, I\'ll pull the money out of my own pocket and paint in my free time.

Do keep in mind that until Monday, I\'m promissing nothing, but the people with whom I talked to seemed confident and they did do a minor check up with their bosses to see if it could be possible.

So I\'m crossing my fingers until Monday :).

And thanks to those who have already answered my questions :).

STOP PRESSES!

i\'ve decided to pull out the stops and harrass my ex colleagues and see if Gw is willing to help us out. Below you\'ll find the email i\'ve just fired off to them, mainly UK WD editor,Eavy Metal Supervisor, Uk Events Team, US WD editor and Dirty Steve from the US Studio as well. I\'m hoping to get a positive response from them monday or tuesday latest, and with a littlebit of luck, they\'ll be quite willing to be involved.

\"Hi Gareth, Paul, Drew Keith and Steve :)

i\'m involved with a group of painters from the Coolminiornot website, to paint up an Ogre Kingdoms army and sell it on ebay for (hopefully) lots of money, and then donate the proceeds to the Red Cross for the Asia Tsunami Aid. the reason i\'m writing you is if it would be possible to maybe get some (unpainted! Don\'t worry Keith, i\'m not after the Studio army)minis donated from GW, or even get this mentioned in Dwarf/on the GW website when it is underway(and we have something to show-this should be in the next 3 to 4 weeks), and that way get a littlebit more exposure.

The project concerns about 20 painters, including myself, from all over the world, USA, Europe, UK and Australia. We\'re in the process of dishing out the jobs, deciding on colour scheme etc. I\'m not exactly in charge, since I\'m in the middle of moving to London, but have taken it upon myself to sort of co-coordinate this project together with Trace Brady from The Hedge Wizards Studio/Online shop.

There are two things i\'m after, ofcourse, first and foremost, get minis donated so it doesn\'t cost us much except our time and effort, and if it would be possible to get an article of say a spread published in White Dwarf when the project is well underway and we have some photographs to show. i can take this under my wing without any problems, so that way the effort on your parts would be minimal, except maybe take a few pics from the UK entries with the Scanback in nottingham or somesuch.

There will be a website set up for this specific project which will keep people informed on how everything is going(using a live journal style system, this way all the participating painters can post their pictures), as well as several websites of the painters involved will have a part dedicated to it(Dragonsreach, my own site and Slavetopaint amongst others).

Pleas let me know what you think of this, since i\'ll be more than happy(or Peter Bell or Mike dodds, who are also involved) to be responsible for the overall gathering of the models, and carting them to HQ for some decent photopgraphs. i really hope you will want to help us out, it\'s for a good cause afterall!
