about the colors

is there a chart that we can match GW and Vallejo, or is someone going to have GW and Vallejo paints listed, because i know do not have any GW paints.

after thinking about the 30 cap on people

i think we shouldnt do that. that is like limiting people who can help support a good cause, this is, afterall, going to support people who need something, that we can provide.

someone who might want to paint a figure may have a stressful weekend and with us being at 29 or 30 now, thats not exactly fair, if we leave the cut off at wednesday that gives everyone a fair shot.

:D Becca!

Lets see, on all these points:

Looks like ogre\'s are the choice - I agree

Should we cap at 30? - I think we should cap at whatever the person organizing thinks they can handle, (TAB or greenstuff). They are offering up the organization and logistics and should have the last say when it\'s getting too big for them

The Color scheme - just point me in a direction and I\'m happy.

Bases? - Like I said I\'m more than happy to contribute in addition to a paint job, the funds to make sure we have a cohesive base scheme, just let me know what needs to happen, and I\'ll whip out the paypal and get it done!

Who paints what? Again I say leave it up to the organizer (s). and again, point me in a direction and I\'m happy.

I think that\'s the important points, I\'m just eager to hear the results of all this GW involvement talk, and of course get going on the project. (in fact I just got an ogre kingdom mini for my own collection to try and get into ogre painting mood)

Thank you all taking this by the reigns and making it happen, if you need any help with anything from me, don\'t hessitate to ask!

That way, there can\'t be more painters than figures (which doesn\'t seem likely anyway). In the case of less painters than minis to paint, take names of who volunteers to do more than one, and divy them up that way.

As to color scheme, I think general guidelines would work best. Like \"make the skin gray, the cloth in blues and whites,\" etc. As I don\'t own any GW paints, getting really specific like saying \"use elephant butt gray for skintones!\" isn\'t going to help me much.

thats what i think.

Perhaps once all the colors are ironed out (if they\'re not already?), someone can grab the color swatches from GWs or Rackhams website so instead of hearing what colors to use, you can make a visual painting key, so those who use paints other than those two brands can match easily.

I actually think Elephant butt grey might be just the trick. lol

@Minimaker:
One thing that I think would look really great would be a Sculpted rock Placard/Nameplate which Just says :

COOLMINIORNOT
PAINT AID
2005

Do you think that you could come up with something like that for us?

Trevor

Brushlicker and Freak!
I\'m more than happy to be told what to do as well, I\'ll paint whatever I\'m told to paint :)

@ Tab thanks :) I\'m embarassed that you seem to think my NMM was worthy of mention, whole heap of people here better than me. :wow:

What\'s great with different time zones is while some sleep, there is always someone to keep the project moving on; thank you everybody ;).

I\'ll be posting, I hope today, a sketch of an Ogre with the different colors to use on it. Remember, this is just a guide. If you don\'t have the exact colors, just try to get as close as possible. I\'ll try to do the same later with a Gnoblar if that seems necessary.

The 30 painter limit was just to keep things easy to organize. But I guess we could lift it a bit. I first want to see what GW has to propose (be it in the UK, USA, Austalia, or France).

@Dark Zealot Studios : thanks for the list :).

@Joshua : thanks for that color chart :).

[edit]
@Dragonsreach and Minimaker : that would be great (if of course Ming-Hua you have time to do it ;)). Would mammoth tusks arround the plate be too much?

Rock nameplate with tusks? No problem. There are a couple of things I need to know for the design though.
- You asked for somebody to make a logo. Did you find anybody? It could be incorporated into the nameplate.
- Can you direct me to pics of this type of GW army so I know what it looks like?
- Er, how big are those tusks?
By the way, I think it\'s best to incorporate this into something that can be used in the game. Like a stack or rocks for the giant to throw. That way the nameplate won\'t dissapear into the spares box.

@minimaker : Thank you very much for investing your time and effort on this project. Try looking here for inspiration. I think Mike was thinking of a nameplate for the army presentation base. I forgot, is anybody up for doing that base? Maybe you should work with that person to agree on size and design. CtanSupportGroup has a contact for the banner.

@minimaker

Maybe you could ad six counters, cause if you cast a spell on a ogre unit you\'re supposed to put a counter next to it. Spells like \"trollguts\"(regeneration magic reistance(2)), \"Bullgorger\", (+1 Strengtht), Toothcracker (+1T and stubborn). I hope you could work on something with this idea.

Well I\'m open for help with the design of the banner which I could send to my friend.

He still hasn\'t replied, so I will give him another day or two.

I\'ve only given him specifications for a \'computer\' style banner, so I do not know how difficult it would be to get from that to something in \'reality\'.

As I say, if somebody could come up with a universal logo that could be incorporated, it would be an image that would unite and represent us...

It shouldd be something simple, though...

I was possibly thinking of a paintbrush over a red cross with the words \'Paint Aid\' in the centre...

If we can hang on until we can find out what GW is doing then that would be great. It\'ll save on confusion.
Meanwhile It\'s a look to see what colours we need and what the best methodology would be.

@Greenstuff: My name etc...
Mike Dodds, Currently 61/2598, Won Best WFB miniature Conflict Manchester 2003, Won a few of store comps, GW UK finalist 6 times, (always the bridesmaid never the bride), Freelanced for GW UK and published in White Dwarf.

@minimaker: I was looking at the the Ogres yesterday and they are about 50-60mm in size. If you are thinking of putting Mammoth tusks (great idea by the way ) they need to be of similar proportions.
My initial idea for the nameplate was just something roughly as wide as a floppy disc. I had visualised this project as being a intended to create a display army, but I would like to hear what others think.

I\'m writing up a little excell file for everybody\'s name, location, what they\'re painting, how long they have and how they\'re progressing, all it needs are the names and minis to put in. This will be put on the net(Pete\'s got free webspace at exterminatus for this), so that everybody knows how everybody else is doing.

Also, i think with the amount of people involved, the unit painters will only have to paint a max of say 5 models(including gnoblars(, that way everybody does roughly the same amount of hours), and painters should be linked with similar styles, so the units will look coherent.

I\'ve alrady been asked if I\'m willing to take resposibillity if GW are willing to donate big on this(this includes articles people, glory in White Dwarf for you all), because they\'re not willing to give away minis and never see hide nor hair of them again. I\'m cool with doing this, but we will need serious commitment from you all, and we need to dish out the chores.

Just to give you an idea of why i\'m suddenly turning into a drill master here...if we do an army that\'s not properly coordinated, we might make £200 or £300 if we\'re lucky. An army with the proper exposure in white Dwarf, and a coherent, professional look to it(no, this doesn\'t mean pro level painting, just that it looks presentable) with some smashing characters can make up to £4000 or £5000, if not more.

I will post the replies I get from GW when I recieve them, and will get this show on the road.
