Yeti’s Guild Ball WIP

That's a good idea Schwarz-Brot, I'll remember it if this happens again.
I think part of the problem here is that I'm hitting the fiddly bits at the end of the mini. I always find the last pieces the most tedious. There isn't much more to do though so I'll be onto the next mini soon enough.

Well I had a good amount of painting time and managed to finish off Esters and Mash. There are some things that I'm not completely happy with (such as the barrels) but I decided to move on. Here they are in all of their finished (and varnished) glory... and still a little shiny actually. Next time I should give it a few days for the gloss to die down before photographing.
I've got a bit of photo sorting to do but I should get them into the gallery this evening. I'll post the link when they are up.

Something that I'm quite pleased with on these two is how far I've managed to push the contrast on the larger sections, particularly his skin and her dress... unfortunately I didn't carry that through to the smaller details... something to work on in the future.

Yes you should be pleased they are very good , I especially like the tartan :good:
Im presuming the gloss varnish is to protect them for gaming?, if not imo I wouldn't varnish a mini.

Thanks Ten. To be honest, your work has really been inspiring me to push the contrast, especially on the skin. I can't remember the minis name but I was using your recent axe wielding maniac as a reference for Mash's skin.
Yup, these are gaming minis and I intend to use them on the table, which is why they need the protection. Perhaps I should move my work flow around a little more and do the basing and photographing before the varnishing. That would also give me another look at the minis to make sure I haven't missed anything (e.g. I was intending to add a little more blue to the area under his arm but I only remembered that when looking at the photos).

Thanks both of you. Maenas, you're right... Didn't think about it while my camera was out. In answer to your question in the comments (thanks again) these are all the brewers that have been released do far. There are two more that have been announced and will be coming out later this year and a number of mercs that can play for the team... So complete for the moment... Ish :)

I've made a start on some new minis!
These two dapper gentlemen are Avarisse and Greede. You'll see that there are two versions of Greede (little guy), one on his own base and one that can be attached in the gaping hole on Avarisse's chest. There is also a plug that can be added to Avarisse when Greede is detached (the little brown box on the top of the cork). The minis were supplied with magnets and holes pre-cast, all in all it's a nice bit of kit.

So far I've just given them a rough base coat. I've been down with the dreaded man-flu for the last week or so, which means that there hasn't been much time for painting and what I have done hasn't been great. Still, it's a start. From here it's a bit of clean up, adding the metal (looking forward to those shiny brass buttons) and then on to the skin. The big guy has more detail in his face than this out of focus shot would suggest but I noticed when I took the photo that there is something odd on his right eye... almost as if a grain of sand got stuck in there and I didn't notice. I'll see if I can get it out but may have to make another plan (e.g. modelling a patch or something.. eek).

Thanks BAM. I've really been enjoying this range of models they are nice and detailed with great character and there are plenty that appeal to me. I'm sure that I'll break out of them eventually but they suit me for the moment. As it happens I've recently picked up the Alchemists, who are completely different from the Brewers. They will make it onto my table in due course.

I still like the guild ball stuff but holding off for the 54mm ones, although I haven't seen any new info about those since the announcement, these guys should be fun to paint up, the colour scheme is nice and no tartan for you to worry about :p
