Chrome - I wouldn't go so far as to call it a myth. The end result is largely dependant on the abilities/level of dedication of the owners, as well as the individual animal themselves. When I first started looking into getting a dog, I looked into wolf/dog hybrids. What I read there was enough to convince me to steer clear. Can they make excellent pets? Yes. Are they for people who can't even raise a poodle properly? Absolutely not.

And a nice glaive would be an excellent weapon choice, especially if adorned with wolf-y bits.

That is absolutely true, though that applies to any canine(flock animal to be petty) really, without a proper chain of command they get lost and confused, which most often means that they'll try to usurp the leadership and install a more clear chain of command.
And with someone who hasn't had the tough side bred out of them things can get nasty.
So, yes, the 'myth' part was a bit of an exaggeration on my part but they don't demand more attention than you should be prepared to dedicate to any canine, even though quite a few have had their pack behaviour mostly bred out of them.

Just need to say this... regardless what race they pick, people without the ability to properly raise a dog shouldn't be allowed to have one. Ever.

On Topic: I think you should give him a saddle, mainly cause you could get the rider strapped on to that and thus removing the need for him to grab the fur of the wolf and thereby giving him both hands free. I also believe the wolf would prefer that to having him hanging on to his neck hair for all his worth...^^

Thanks everyone!

So I will definitely be going with a saddle for the big beastie and a Glaive style weapon. I sketched out some ideas for the saddle and it will also allow me to add all kinds of detail bitz. I also plan on borrowing Chrome's chain-Glaive design too. It will be a cool frostblade/wolf claw stand in....

Here is a general pose mock up all tacked together to give an idea of how I see him going together after all the details are in place. What do you think?

I am going to try and correct some of my anatomy blunders when I add the saddle details too.

Any thoughts on armour or should I let the big fella run around in his birthday suit?

And as far as owning a wolf/dog goes... many owners I know should be the one's in the training classes! :-D

Cheers!

Looks awesome. Glaive was definitely the right choice. As for wolf armor, I'd look to horses and see if anything inspires you.

Pretty much what ^ he said.

seconded. There's some darn cool horse armours out there to borrow inspiration from. I'd like a more direct view of the glaive, it could be the camera angle but it looks like he might be holding it a bit far down the shaft. That kinda makes it look a bit awkward for a resting pose

Thanks guys!

Here's a better view of the Glaive length and how he is holding it. Everything is tacked together (including the Glaive sections) so the choppy part is drooping a little...

I'll have a look around at horse armour to see what I can find!

Cheers! /J

I'm still gathering info (and my thoughts) on how to detail the giant wolf. To show that I'm not totally slacking, here is Longfang unit #3 that I put together this week...

And here is a random WIP Grey Hunter with a plasma gun (tacked together and no backpack on him yet...)

Another brain surner I am still working on is a convincing way to do Scouts. I would like a couple small units of these guys for playing. Here is a WIP Grey Hunter next to a WIP scout.

The scout's legs were cut free above the boot and extended. Overall I increased his height by about 5mm from the standard scout. Now I'm not sure what to do next. Should I increase the arm length a few mm? Bulk up his legs/body to make him look beefy? Any thoughts or links to other truescale scouts would be appreciated! :)

On a side note the army currently stands at 51 marines, 5 terminators and 1 Dread...
