The downloads are really slow.....and not of very good quality, from what I \'ve seen there aren\'t any contents pages etc.

This guy has done the minimum of work to the material to prep it for sale....it\'s a shame to see these wonderful articles in such a rotten setting.

Would it be possible to make a good-looking and presentable compilationof these works for download athrough CMoN? I\'d pay for that.

My current plan is to download them. Reattach the authors names. Make a table of contents and then post it to Bearshare for everybody to download. If it was to be picked up by the site and made available for download upon completion I would be proud. Seeing as I am not competent enough to add anything to the CMON Manual it would be my contribution.

Hi, you better not do it that way since that would also be a copyright breach. Not that much because of the contents but the changes he made. Since the articles are all online here it\'s better to put a link to the articles site over here.

As to the idea of making a book on the articles, that would be a great idea. As it is, we could perhaps do a CMON techniques book. Additional articles could be made to fill the gaps in the collection.

We already have several authors clearly stating that the FREE dissemination of their work is authorized. I intend to do it anyway. If somebody doesn\'t want the information out on the web, I don\'t have to release it to the public. It can sit my library. But that seems a waste.

Yes and no. While I want people to access my article for FREE, that doesn\'t constitute authorization to distribute it through other channels. It\'s free to visit CMON and read the articles, after all. What more is needed?

As for your statement of \"intending to do it anyway\" you will need the express consent of every author of an article on CMON you want to copy, as well as Chern Ann\'s.

At the moment I have suspended the Download from my website of the PDF version of my article, following legal advice.
Why?
Because I used photographic images of my face in the article and there are implications of misrepresentation under UK law about this issue. Which is one of the reasons I am being very \'stubborn\' about this issue.

Looks to me like you are going out of your way to be a dickhead.

I give no permission whatsoever to anyone to rip my articles from sites.

I placed my articles on CMON as a payback for all the help I got from the site. One of the thought behind it is so people will visit CMON to view it and in a roundabout way help the site.

I would have no hesitation however in letting Chern Ann use them for a proffessional publication, though I am more than sure he would contact everyone involved before doing so.

Due, I think, to a misunderstanding, you would not actually be helping. The point here is not to somehow \"undercut\" the copyright infringer guy by making his pdf\'s freely available. The articles are ALREADY freely available, to anyone with internet access (aka basically everyone in this day and age), via this site! The point is to stop him from illegally distributing our work, for his own profit. Further disseminating the same materials we are complaining about won\'t help with that.

Stay on target people... get those C&D notices in the mail.

My intention was never to rip anyone off I just wanted to compile what I believed to be the best guide available for miniature painters.
In hindsight I should have contacted someone first to check copyright issues, but more importantly to check I wasnt pissing anyone off.

The bottom line is that I was wrong for what I did, it took me 3 or 4 days to compile everything up but the fact remains they were not my articles.

I realise that I may have come over as \'Anally Retentive\' on this, but there is a reason.

My legal advise has been that, as this person has used my facial image in such a book without permission it is a serious matter under UK & European law.
There\'s a huge complex issue about the use of faces, and in his compiling this book, which has my face in it, without my consent and failing to maintain my identity within the article as the author, is implicitly promoting me as the person compiling the book. (This of course also bring up issues of defamation of character, inferring illegal copyright breach etc...... ) Hence all the legal formalities I\'m going through in order to protect myself.

I\'m glad that the fact we\'ve kicked up a fuss over this is having some action, and that he has removed the ebook from sale admitting the copyright breach.
I now wonder if he is going to do the same with the Manga guide he has \'compiled\'.

I have written to Chern Ann with a suggestion that all articles could be compiled as PDF\'s with Copyright notices embedded in as watermarks. (Not as complex as it sounds)
This would then protect the authorship rights and could be an easier form of access for CMON members.
It would need the work of a moderator, but since I\'ve stuck my head over the parapet, I\'m willing to do this.

It\'d be a huge job. I went into my acrobat writer and opened up a couple of pages, so much stuff needs tweaking and editing, it would take someone a very long time to reformat all those articles well
