Goblin King

Little more work done on the goblin king. Focused on the leather belts and straps. Not 100% satisfied with it. Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

The leather looks good the only issue I can see is that the coloring is very similar to the color you used for the shadows in the green so the belts tend to blend in and not stand out. A possible suggestion would be to add a thin glaze of red into the skins shadows nothing to bright, but just enough to give the shadows a bit of a red tint, which I believe will make the colors of the belt and the shadows contrast a bit more.

Thanks for the input Guawol. I have glazed in some purples into the shadows, but I see where you are coming from. I think that may be why I'm not feeling the leather. It is getting washed out against the shadows. I'll try some reds too.

Kept plugging away on this guy.

Tonights mission was the chainmail. I'm going with TMM on this piece. I wanted to make the chainmail look well used and dirty. I base coated with VMC Oily Steel, and washed it with VMC German Grey, VMC Burnt Umber, and some spots of a rusty mix. Some Tamiya silver was added to wear spots but isn't overly noticeable.

Comments welcome.

Picking up momentum now.

I decided to paint his pants up distinctively dwarfish. The Goblin king holds a modified dwarf ax, a dwarven kings crown on his helmet, so it made sense to make his pants striped like a berserker.

Just blocked in the boots at the moment.

Thinking of a steel shoulder armour, brass belly plate, steel toe guards. I want to show the difference between top quality dwarves forged weaponry and shoddy goblin modifications.

Comments encouraged and welcome.

I really like the thought you're putting into your project, especially the second-hand berserker pants.
I would still get some more grime onto those metals, especially in areas where the light would not hit it much. See if you can selectively kill the shine e.g. under the big overhanging belly.

Thanks Saint. The pictures really show off the shine compared to real life, but you are right. They need to be dirtied up a bit more. I used a dark grey wash on them, but I can go back and add some spots of black and more brown. Appreciate the feedback.

Just a start with the base. All cork for rocks. Will prime and paint tonight hopefully. I made the photo black and white for better viewing contrast.

Worked on some of the details on the back of him. Just a small pouch and a barrel of gold. The gold doesn't show up well, but his wolf cloak is going to cover most of it anyway.

Still have to paint the rope rope and and the frog on the back of him.

Also looking for tips on how to properly shade and weather TMM copper. I can handle the verdigris, but I'm primarily looking for tips on the shading. Should I use browns? Greys?

Cheers

Finished up the lower half of the king. (For the most part)Frog on the belt and boots painted up. Looking for help on how to weather copper. Any comments would help. And be appreciated.

Copper plate's looking nice. I love a good bit of verdigris.

You might think about getting a bit more tonal variation in the skin maybe? Perhaps push a bit of beige or red on the nose and lips.

Thanks Foxtail. I had thought about that, but the truth is they are so thin already, it would almost look cartoonish. Perhaps Ill try to glaze on some darker greens and see how that goes.

Now that I see the copper in place, I'm also considering making his shoulder plate copper too. Brings the colour up a little higher.
