Looking forward to seeing this guy. I've never done anything complicated like him, and won't for quite a while.

Reading your posts back a ways, you mentioned that you bought a lightbox. How did that work out for you? Really curious to see how you like it. I'm thinking about buying one if it would simplify and improve my photographs a bit.

First of all, let me tackle the lightbox question - it's fine for it's price. I did not expect a revolution and it didn't provide one. What it did provide was a controlled environment that I can set up on my desk in 15 seconds, throw a piece in, shoot with preset settings I know work with the provided lightning and voila, a have a decent (not perfect, of course) photo to throw on here. Just like the one from this post.
Which brings me to Belisarius - progress is slow but steady, the amount of detail is staggering, but I really enjoy painting him and I'm really feeling like my sklills are improving. There is much to be done on both pieces, but it's slowly getting there.

Thats one really detailed model isn't it? You're doing a really good job, it's coming along really nicely. The second photo of the last post there looks really neat and tidy. I particularly like the subtle verdigris weathering at the top.

Almost Perftec! Aw, crap.
OMG I am tired just looking at all those damned details! Great commitment slogging through them o_O

Well, from the moment I first saw the model I knew that I would enjoy painting it, I really like it. I know that most more experienced people hate the new overdetailed GW minis, but I like the style. Maybe because I'm a novice :D
If I did not like this mini as much I would not be so patient with it. ;)

Oh Ddmkr, I was really proud of the red cloth I'd done on Belly, and you've blown mine out of the water. You're doing an awesome job on this mini, and seem to be really enjoying it which is the main thing.
How are the basing ideas coming along?

And Canny...thanks?

Thanks guys for the encouraging words.
Foxtail - your Belisarius is like a guideline for me, I really like how you painted it, especially the red cloth and mine is nowhere near yours as it is only basecoated for now. :D
All the big areas of cloth are just basecoated, the little piece on the arm attached to the axe-staff is done (well, I fixed some shadows after I took the photo).
As for the base I have a lot of ideas but I do not know if it will all work out in reality. We shall see.

Maenas, thanks!
Not a lot of painting done during the last week as my kid got ill and I had no time to sit down and paint, but I started to work on the big red cloak parts on the main body of the model.
I'm bad at blending but I did the best I could. I will probably do one more pass at this part, I will try to push shadows a bit more I think.

Done. Painted. Woo!
It was definetely my most challenging project to date, but I enjoyed every single moment spend on him. I think this is the best mini I ever painted, I learned a lot by painting him.
I will make some photos after he's based.
As for the base itself, well, I went a bit crazy with old electronic stuff, there will be probably some details added after the texture paste dries. I have no idea how it will look when it's painted, but hey - experimenting is good, right? :D

Great original idea for a base ;D
I also painted this mini, it was a hard time with all the details. I also remembered now how I managed to shoot it's thumb acros the bloody room, while gluing the mini together :D

Interested to see that base with some colour on it...I've tried this before (a long time ago) and always found it hard to make the most of the circuit board elements. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this.

So, as promised - photos with the complete mini.
The base came out fine, better then I expected to be honest. This was all just a big experiment which I would call moderately successful :)
As for the mini itself, well, it's not the world best, but I'm really happy with my performance, there is not much that I could done better at this moment.

Arkaan - show me your version! I'd really like to see what you did :)
Foxtail - I hope you don't mind that I used your mini as a guideline, your version was the best painted Belisarius I saw :D

Yea, there is so much going on on this mini that it's hard to capture it well on a photo. It does look better in real life :D
Your version is top notch!
