Something ends, something begins. ;)
Sword seems like a good piece to try NMM for the first time ever. Wish me luck. :D

Almost Perftec! Aw, crap.
Painting easy mode: find a similar painted nmm blade online or a real one in photos and copy what you see. Working from reference is a really good way to learn.

Thanks for advice Zab. I'll definetely try to copy rather than innovate, basics firsts. I watched all the youtube tutorials on the topic so I know the theory, now time to put it into practice.
Chaotic Creations - it's The Visarch from GW from Truimvirate of Ynnead box.

Guys, quick advice/question. Am I going in the right direction shadow/highlight-wise?
Do not mind the horrible uneven structure on his leg, I drilled through it and greenstuffed the hole, it came out horrible, I will do some battle damage there :D

I really want to push myself forward on this mini and try things that I haven't done yet, push the contrast more, etc. I'll need to fix some highlight transitions with a glaze later, this is very much a work in progress.
This is the first time I painted gemstones and I'm really happy with how they turned out!
I'm not that happy with this battle damage, dunno how can I make it better though. I needed to paint over the hole I made with a drill and fixed badly with greenstuff.

just don't use black, maybe a dark brown and more jagged less flowy so its stands out from the flowing lines of the armour. Really nice work on the gem and the armour contrast clean and well placed!

Really nice clean work you have there.... what your doing is a very effective and looks awesome, but your saying you want to push yourself a bit further. What I noticed on the cloak of your Belisarius Mini is you were building up a very nice blend to the highlight, then all of a sudden slapped on (in want of a better word) an orange edge highlight and called it finished... seems like you may be going down that path with this one too. With a couple of progressions of colour in the edge highlight (which creates a kind of a glow to the tip) and a few really bright spots in the highest points, that cloak wold have been next level amazing. Using a glaze over this build up will transition them into the underlying colour too...
i realise I’m being extremely presumptuous in saying this,, but I think you definitely have the skills to push your effects a little further and achieve magnificent results.

That's exactly what I'm doing. Maybe it does not show at the photo. There are 3 layers of those edge highlights. They go up to almost pure Ivory with just a hint of orange. Maybe I need to push them more to be more visible though.

Well, yea, there is a typical edge highlight, the armor is so defined that it just asks for it, but i'm making the edge highlight brighter on the most raised and defined points.

Yeah cool cool, don’t get me wrong what your doing is exceptional work, and some really good brush control, and I’m by no means trying to dis your work!!! I’m just suggesting you could try blending up from a bit further in on the armour to the highlight, to get a more subtle transition...
in all honesty when I get to edge highlighting it does my head in, layer after layer after layer of thin coats which looks like it’s getting nowhere and I generally skip a few tones and end up losing that smooth transition and become very disappointed with the end result.. patience is the key. Just suggesting this as you will need to develop subtle transitions to get NMM to look really effective.
