Another beginner WIP thread...

Quite liking it so far, for a beginner your grasp of things certainly seems to be improving with every effort I have to say. Very neat work, vibrant colours, I can see where you've gone with shading. It's coming together quite nicely! Keep up the good work, pip pip!

Thanks for the kind words, I'm learning a lot of small things with this model and I feel like I'm improving.
Foxtail - I used paints from Scale 75 Red Set and I found them to be very vivid and rich in colour. Not a huge leap, but definetely an improvement over what I was using before (mix of Vallejo and Citadel).

I agree with the groub the weapons and staffs look very nice and vibrant...but I am afraid your painting set up is way too neat and organized! Lol. :)

It's always like that when I get new stuff and can get things organized. Then it goes downhill pretty quickly, but as I do not have a dedicated painting room and have to paint on my computer desk I need to have some resemblance of cleanliness, otherwise my kid would eat up all the paints. :D

I think we all have those fanciful moments where we organised the work area and maintain stoically that it shall remain forever in order... A fanciful moment that lasts all of a day...or a matter of hours really.

Haha, true! Until the first painting session. ;)
I really want to up my airbrushing skills (well, priming and basecoating and prehighlighing/shading mostly) so I took a plunge and bought H&S Evolution 2 in 1.
After I finish Belisarius I have a couple of models lined up that are not mostly metallic armor (the last couple of them I painted were mostly that). I learned a lot about painting TMM, but I want to try NMM at some point. Belisarius is not really a good mini for that though :D I will start with something small, like a sword or something. :)

BOOM. Major paint accident. I was basecoating red cloak yesterday evening and I wanted to add some Scale 75 Deep Red, I squished the bottle and then the top came out and half of the bottle spilled onto my wet palette. Damn. I salvaged most of it though, but hell, never had this problem before. I need to be more careful in the future with those paints ;)

Happens to the best of us mate. What’s the old phrase? Don’t cry over spilt acrylic paint?

I know, most of it I put back in the bottle anyway, but I did not expect a clogged tip after one use.

Those Scale 75 bottles don't come pre pierced...bit of an acrylic Russian roulette thing going on if you are not careful....

I knew that you need to make a hole in the tip first time you use them, I watched some reviews. :D But this was a paint I was already using the previous day, so it must've clogged.

I'd noticed that happen with the bright vallejo GC red. Just the other day i was on the precipice of the ultimate gamble; "Should I just squeeze a little bit harder or give it a clear with a paperclip...Now you have to ask yourself a question...Are yah feeling lucky, punk? Well...Are yah?!"

As Fox said. We've all done it :p

Belisarius update - all the assorted bits and pieces are painted. I will now move to the 2 big subassemblies, upper and lower body. They are already basecoated in VMC Steel and S75 Deep Red on metallics and cloak. I hope to finish it this week, but we will see :)
I have trouble with basing though, any advice on how should I base him? I was thinking about some tech-industrial base with pipes, cables and various pieces of old electronic equipment but I'm not confident in my ability to pull it off. Do any of you made a similiar base in the past and care to share some ideas?

Here's the best idea, be creative and go with what you feel. Don't doubt yourself, you'll probably feel accomplished and amazed by what you CAN do!

Whatever you do, don’t just slap some cracked earth on there and paint it all red. It doesn’t look good (check my gallery)

Some plastic piping and fine mesh steel great might work great for an industry base. Something like the sector imperialis bases GW does.

*shatp intake of breath* you sad the "GW" word you dirty man! There are cheaper and easier ways to circumvent this. I wouldn't pay for the overpriced un-necessities.

Next will be that the paints glues the cap and top together, and when you try to press only one drop, you spill out all of your paints.
So always open your bottles with the top upwards.

Only for inspiration. I’m sure with a bit of plasticard, we can all create some awesome industrial bases at a much cheaper cost
