Another beginner WIP thread...

Just wanted to say I really like your stuff - it's really impressive, and heartening for another beginner to see somebody getting so good so quickly :)

Thanks for the kind words. I'm getting better, but still not at the level that I would call myself good ;) getting there, small steps ;)

After I finished the backpack I started the work on the actual mini. I basecoated it and washed some TMM areas. There are some spots that are missing a basecoat and there are some that need small corrections.
It's the first time I'm using Vallejo Metal Color line and it's amazing, way better then Citadel or Vallejo Model Air alternatives!

More or less finished. I will base her during the weekend. Good to be painting again.

Looks great! And absultely, painting is a joy and a refuge. :D

I'm far from an expert on painting faces, but the one comment I have is perhaps darken the area above the eye. It might convey the look of some makeup, and give the eye itself some more definition. Only if you can pull it of to draw a line that fine though. I'm not sure I would still be able to myself...

That's a good point, it was already spotted by another person on another site. I will try to do that, not sure if I will be able to do that though.

Challenge accepted. This is by far the most complex miniature I ever attempted. Looks as it will be fun to paint though, cool as hell as well. :D

You've fully assembled him!? You're a madman.

I've painted this particular beast...you're going to have a lot of fun with him

Naah, he's in like 7 seperate smaller parts, I just blutacked him into one coherent form for the purpose of the photo ;)

Small update on Belisaurus: I basecoated it black using an airbrush, then basecoated kinda zenithal white over all cloak areas which will be red. Then I airbrushed Vallejo Metal Color Steel over all metal areas - this thing goes through an airbrush like a dream. Now I will stop until my Scalecolor Red Set arrives and I will start with the cloak!

As I'm waiting for paint delivery to start Belisaurus, I finished Inquisitor Greyfax. As usual, taking pictures with a good camera reveals all mistakes and imperfections. I cannot even see most of them when I look at the figure with my own eyes :D

Belisarius started. I paint really slowly :D This little piece took me over 3 hours to paint and it's not even finished. Where did that time go? :D

The inquisitor looks great! Really liking the metals and the cloak/hat. What colours did you use for highlighting and shading the black parts? Greys and blues?

I struggle with painting black, it's very lightly highlighted as I do not know how to do that. I used Dark Sea Blue from Vallejo and various greys from Citadel. I made a mistake in basecoating black parts in actual black. On my Belisarius I'm starting with dark grey and shade and highlight from there.

Another Belisarius piece almost done. Seems that my tactic of painting/highlighting black did not pan out as I expected, but I will work on it more.
Also I finally decided to buy Scale 75 paints. Red, blue and green sets are on the way!

My Scale75 Red Set arrived and I tested it on a small piece of Belisarius cloak that is attached to one of the arms - those paints are goooood. Nothing that would warrant a WIP photo though.
And now for something completely different - my paint station is expanding, new Hobby Zone stuff arrived!

I think this part is done, besides some minor cleanup work. What do you think about the red cloak part? This is a test scheme before I move to the bigger parts of the cloak.
I also bought a cheap lightbox from Aliexpress as I do not like the hassle of setting up light for every WIP shot ;)

Looking good bud. Those reds have come out brilliantly vivid, they’ll look great across the whole model. The black grip on the bottom of the axe is really well done as well.
