Another beginner WIP thread...

I did a little bit of painting this morning. I highlighted some more of the bone areas and decided that there was not enough contrast on the skin, so I decided to push some shadows further and add some green tint to them. I do not think I went hard enough on the green as the effect is hardly noticeable. I will finish the bone fragments today probably, but I do not know what to do more after that, so I'll probably do some cleanup work, finish the remaining colors that are not yet highlighted and call it a day for this one. I'll base it and move to another mini.
PS. I think I did what I could to finally represent the colors of the mini more or less faithfully on the photo. It's the best I can do with my current lightning setup.

Thanks for the good word. It was my first time trying to blend colors and I'm happy with the result. But this is the only thing I'm really happy with on this mini. I found out that I did more harm than good with washes instead of manually putting in shadows, I will try to skip washes altogether on the next mini.
I finished Khorgorath today, will upload some photos after it's based.

Looking good. Only thing what I would change or more add in his skin is bit more highlights just in few places like chest and arms, and more purple on his legs. Still nicely done. I'm waiting to see your next mini

No painting today, some work on the base, but not much.
I did start another important project though! About 2/3 done, goodbye Citadel pots, you will not be missed!

I did transfer them. Well most of them anyway. I will not transfer washes or metallics. Couple more to go and I'm done. I hate those citadel pots. When transferring I found out that 5 or 6 paints dried out completely.

Good move on transfering paints into bottles. If you didn't put some agitator inside I highly recommend, they mox easier. Another pros from bottles is saving paint, instead of blob transfer with brush which half is going on pallet and rest is staying on bristles you have one little drop.

I did put glass beads in every bottle. Saving paint was the main reason for transferring, ease of dispensing paint onto palette was added bonus ;)

Khorgorath is finished. Not entirety happy with how he turned out, but I learned a lot when painting him, so that's good. I will try to do better on Korghos Khul which is the last mini remaining from my Age Of Sigmar boxset which got me interested in miniatures painting. Like an end of an era for me. ;) and a big step forward, I will not paint another Khorne mini for a very long time ;)

If you don't mind, how did you get the Citadel labels on the bottles? Did you remove them from the actual Citadel bottles or did you print them yourself and if so, what did you use to print them?

I removed them from the pots and put them on the new bottles. It was very easy to peel the off and stick them onto the bottles.

Looks very nice. I like base what you done for him. In fact those bones could have bit more contrast.

I've started to work on Korghos Khul and I made a mistake of trying to throw myself onto the deep end and following Ben Komets tutorial from Painting Buddha. That means using loaded brush technique which is waaaaay beyond my pay grade but I thought, hell, what can go wrong? It seems that a lot and I've end up stripping the mini and starting again using the techniques I'm actually familiar with ;)

I decided not to go fancy on this one and try to learn as much new techniques I can. Reason being I'm really tired of painting Khorne guys after doing like 40 of them recently, but I need to finish this project as this is the last mini left. I only decided not to use washes so much and try to later the shadows by myself. It went badly on the skin, but it's not much visible on the model, so I did not care :D basecoated red and will do more work today evening.

Looking good so far (btw, love the shape of the base on the previous one). And congrats on trying the loaded brush technique. It is only by trying new things and painting that we will develop our own style.

Just realized that they are only stickers on the bottles. Never paid attention or noticed that before:silly!:. By the way, I think you did a great job on the Khorgorath.

Thanks, I'm happy with how the base turned out.
I did try loaded brush and it was a complete disaster. I also tried wet and 2 brush blending, but without some drying retarder it's completely impossible to do in my climate (30 degrees Celsius and low humidity).
As for Korghos, I feel completely uninspired when painting him, dunno if that's caused by the fact it's like the 40th khorne guy straight, or the fact that I all I try looks shit. I know that skill comes with experience but I'm at the stage where my expectations are greater than my actual skill level. At this moment I feel like this paint job will be way worse than my recent ones. I will not post any WIP photos of him until I'm at least a bit happy with how he looks.
