a TITANIC undertaking

Alright, some real progress! Spent the last few days powering through the rear details, and have the whole bit all set. Drumroll, please!

And a zoom on the central part:

I built the central block with machine-parts-looking pieces in the window instead of lenses, only to realize that the Titan now had a HUGE blind spot to everything behind it. That\'s why I\'ve got that little sensor array perched on there. I thought it looked OK, but if you disagree, let your voice be heard. And once again, I owe Dark Star thanks for his molding recommendations, because I put them to use again for the exhaust pipes. Now I can begin adding armor plating to the torso.

@ mud duck...You almost gave me a heart attack! One head only, and interior detail included. Probably going to take your advice and mangle some Guard for the basic shapes, then some green stuff. I don\'t mind the putty (though it isn\'t my favorite), I\'ve just never made a study of human proportions.

Stay tuned, I think things are starting to get interesting... :p

Plan Set #2

Alright lads and lasses, as promised I have leg plans drawn up. I\'m emailing them to whoever has already given me their email address, and if anyone else is interested just PM me yours. By the way, those of you who have the plans, if you do any work with them please feel free to post your own progress on this forum.

Well it\'s been a fair time since I last updated...again...but in my defense, this last step has been a long one (and taken about four times as long as I expected). However, I can now appease the ever-impatient Master Hestan lol. ANYWYAY! The torso is no longer naked! See it here in all its armored glory!

I confess I\'m very excited at this stage because the look of the thing is shaping up very nearly exactly how I envisioned it. Only a few things remain to be done to the torso. Riveting, for one thing. For another, I\'m going to add small hatches on either side, just behind the armored \"collar,\" for crew access and emergency on-the-fly weapons maintenance. Between said hatches and the \"armpit\" I\'m going to put ammo feeds, but that part will wait until I\'m doing the guns. On the top of the beast, where you see the rectangles missing on either side of the exhaust grate, I\'m going to add some thermal exhausts--this, in fact, is my next item of business. After that, well, I can\'t decide to whether to start the noggin or the weapons first. We\'ll just have to see, I guess.

Of course, I\'m still no closer to figuring out what pattern/design/montage the armored bits will carry, and I\'m open to suggestions...but I suppose I can kick this can a little further down the road, if needs be.

As always, thanks for the input!

This is really an amazing adventure you\'ve been on, and have inspired in others as well. I can\'t wait to see the finished product.

I have to echo the guys from early on saying to invest in an airbrush: I\'m fairly new to the use of it, but I find that even airbrushing the base coat makes a HUGE difference to the outcome of my painting. Even with custom work when you paint you would be surprised how easy it is to use the airbrush to do it.

You continue to amaze, I look forward to every update to this forum hoping it is full of new pictures.

My 2 cents on the matter of weapons or head first would be to do the weapons first, and save the best for last. The cockpit is and should be the focal point of the titan.
I think that the Adeptus mechanicus iconagraphy is on most, if not all Titans.

Ok dude you are my new plasticard guru...
The whole thing is amazing...
What is your secret on the rounded edges. I\'m not a novice with plasticard but I would love to know how you made those edges look so soft... do you file them down? and what thickness of plasticard are you using?

Thanks for the kind comments, one and all.

@marcineczek: The rounded edges are not complicated, but it is a bit of a process. I start with a square corner, and fill all gaps. Then use the Dremel sanding drum to get the rough shape, the Dremel high-speed cutter to smooth it a bit, and a craft knife to even things out still further. Then a pass with rough sandpaper to obliterate any tooling scars, and finally finishing sandpaper to make it all silky :)

As for thicknesses, I use three. All measurements are in \"mills;\" I use .06 (1/16\") for armor and load-bearing parts, .03 (1/32\") for every other structural piece, and .01 (1/64\") for detail bits.

@goalie4hire: Point well taken. Guns first. Another reason to do that is I don\'t have any Guard yet, to mangle for the crew. Also, the iconography; I\'ve beep planning on a variety of Mechanicum skull&gears, but I\'m also trying to come up with a Legion badge and even perhaps insignia/heraldry for this particular machine. What I\'ve seen of the existing canonical Legions does not impress me.

@LadyKat: People keep recommending the airbrush...I\'m beginning to think I should take all you folks advice. My painting experience is far less than my building experience, after all, and so many of you here on CMON are battle-hardened veterans of the craft. If I set aside my tax return from last year, I should have enough to get started.

Ironic...this project started because I didn\'t want to spend money! lollol My, how priorities change.

I got lucky a little bit ago when I found a pair of IG \"pilots\" from an old Rogue Trader speeder. All I had to do was remove the guns from their hands. Now it looks like they are reaching for buttons/controling the beast.
I am almost done with my legs, and hips to the point that I might be ready to prime it soon. I just need to add fluff, and rivets. I just have been side tracked by Blood Bowl for the past 2 weeks.

An airbrush isn\'t just spending money, its an investment when you\'re painting figs. I don\'t claim to be an expert by any stretch, but the little work I do with the airbrush makes all the difference in the final project, especially on larger scale models/projects.

In our house we use airbrush exclusively on our tank exteriors, etc and the difference is amazing. I highly recommend the Iwata series, we have 2 of their brushes and love them both.

hehe, every time this thread is bumped up I hopefully opens it up for some new pictures... BUT, alas, it is not yet to be... To be honest, how much time can it really take to put on thousands and thousands of studs and create details to such an extent ;) :D

Keep it up, this is one of the most exciting projects I have watched in a long time! Good work!!!
