Looking great!

As to fur, I've got a small tool with a hook on one end and a glass bead on the other. Between those two I can usually muddle through fur.

Thanks Kath! Glad you like it. Well, here he is.... Not counting the cloak, I say it's 99% done. Only a couple of minor things to address. I just realized that I didn't put the waist plates on for these :( You've seen them before, but I think they do add a little to the over all feel. Anyways, I hope to have the cloak done within the next few days. Once I get him in primer, I'm sure there will be many spots that need cleanup, but I can see the end!!!!!
See for yourself.

Ok, so I'm having a bit of writer's block,er...... sculpter's block? Anyways, he is in such a static pose(which I'm mostly ok with), Should I try the cloak with at least a little movement? I don't think I will be able to put alot of movement in regardless as I left the back of the figure far from "finished" and I obviously don't want that showing. But how much is enough? or too much? Maybe just a slight "push" to one side from a breeze? Completely vertical with no sideways movement? Even tho I have a ruff outline with aluminum foil. Arg.........I'm stuck....I guess I'll just keep playing around until something hits me.

Where as I'd go with the slight breeze, as if he's standing guard somewhere. ;) BTW - that thing is becoming something really gorgeous. Great work!

Thanks for the suggestions Trys and Kath! I actually decided to meet somewhere in the middle, or at least I tried to do that. It's hanging straight down, but the very bottom I tried to give a slight sense of movement. Feel free to tell me if it worked! The pencil line is there to show a rough idea of where the fur on the top will be. Still some smoothing out to be done and I'm not sure if I'm happy with the ragged bottom edge or not. Once the fur is done, he's getting a bath and then on to primer!

I like the bottom, but you might want to try and bring the sides in around his form a little. Not sure if that's feasible, but it's my 2 cents.

i made the coat for the death jester in sections it was easier to put folds and give it a more in depth cloth like look

I would have to agree. I'm adding more material to the sides right now. I think it looks a little too straight for me. I feel like it should be a bit wider at the bottom so it should be pretty easy to bring the corners/sides around a little more.

Thanks for thip cassar. I was surprised how well it went doing it in one sheet since I've never tried it before.

Thanks Chrome. That's pretty much what I had in mind was a thick hide type material. No pansy thin cloth for this dude!

Heya armornv. I agree about widening it at the bottom and putting more folds in it. If you go thick and heavy, remember that's a lot of weight pulling on the cloak pins and shoulders. Believe me, I've sewn enough stuff like this when I was in the SCA. There's lots and lots more volume to the material or leather than meets the eye.

What are you working with? Apoxie Sculpt? Milliput? As cass said, it's easier to do it in sections but it also helps if you have a base layer, let dry, build up sections for folds, let dry, and continue. That way you have a solid foundation that doesn't move.

Can't wait to see more pics!

Thanks cass and Marbo! Glad to see I haven't scared people away with this yet!
Kath, It's all Magic Sculpt. Ever since I first tried this stuff I was in love. I've tried Milliput, Green Stuff, and Milliput mixed with GS, but Magic Sculpt to me is just all around easier. Vaseline works really well with it to smooth things out too.

hmmm...is it sticky like GS. I'm using Apoxie Sculpt, actually Apoxie Clay and even though I wait when i first apply it, it's still really sticky and that drives me nuts.

I don't think it's quite as sticky as GS. Definately not too sticky if wait a while to put it on. Gs, to me, is ANNOYINGLY sticky...but that's just me. The resin "half" of MS is pretty sticky. The hardener half isn't hardly sticky at all. Once mixed, it has a bit of a greasy/wax like feel to it. Most noticeable right after you've mixed it. I've gotten into the habit of washing my hands right after I mix some up. The more you handle it, the more you will notice it but it's not that bad. It will make your fingers a little tacky though. MS seems to have a tendency to not have a great grip on itself. For instance: If I decide to add a layer on to something that wasn't quite built up enough. Once the second layer is cured, if it's a thinner second layer, it sometimes won't carve well without trying to lift the whole second layer....did that even remotely make sense? Of course, that may me due in part to the first layer being sanded/polished smooth so it doesn't have a lot of "grip".....

If that didn't make sense, just say so and I'll go to bed and try again tomorrow lol! It's been a long hot, no A/C day......

lol armor! No that really didn't make sense, maybe we could try again later today. But thank you for the effort! I may have to try some Magic Sculpt

I get the same thing with GS/Milliput. Thin layers tend to lift off of cured layers. Quite annoying really, LOL
