Thanks Meph, I agree there is one of the helmets that I considered for this guy but knew I would never be able to pull it off( I tried once)
chaoshelm.jpg

Not a great screen grab. He has tall blades on the side and one shorter blade above each eye. This is about as Chaos-y as you can get IMO

Kath, I had a feeling I was blabbering. Basically what Trys said, it has a tendency to lift. The chest emblem for example. It was laid down onto a smooth surface(the chest armor). Once the emblem was cured, I could have popped it off simply by sanding and applying too much lateral pressure. I could have put my knife blade under it and pry it off very easily. Long story short, a lil super glue is your friend here.

So now I'm considering chucking the cloak..... well not the whole thing but from the fur line down and starting over. Reason being is that as I add folds to the outside, I will somehow have to carve a corresponding groove on the inside to match. Wouldn't look very good with folds on the outside and a flat inside..... Back to the think tank I go!

do it in sections that way you can fold a little at a time, another tip is if you want to increase the fold roll some of your sculpy into thin sausages then blend them onto the top of the fold blending and smoothing as you go,e smaller multipl folds at the clasp and on the shoulder where it bunches up can also be achieved in this manner, you can do it on the inside too.
dont know if this will help my death jester thread page 18 etc http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/showthread.php?45450-jester-s-death-jester/page18

Thanks cass. Just had another look back through your disco clown and I'm thinking that might be the way to go. I tried the "add a sausage and blend" trick late last night. That's the reason I decided to hack it off(mostly) and start over. The folds I made looked great, but they didn't look natural or in the right places. So I think sections will be easier to manage. I think I can get a large portion of the center in one go which will give me the overall "flow" for the rest. Then I can just start building out the sides.
We'll see how it goes. More pics once that's under way.

Good luck mate, the secret is i think do it thin then go thinner. during the sanding process i actually sanded through in a couple of places. the milliputt method requires you to leave the sheet rolled flat for about 30 miniutes it then loses stickyness and you can be fairly rough when handling it, as for sculpy your the expert there.

Yea, Magis Sculpt is the same way. Leave for about half an hour then it's stiff enough to manipulate. I think my last attempt was also a little too thick so I'll try to get this one a little thinner.

I get the same thing with GS/Milliput. Thin layers tend to lift off of cured layers. Quite annoying really, LOL

pssst...hey one leg, sand or score the layer below with a sanding sponge, stick, or sculpting tool and it won't do that. I had to really sand my horse when I was working on the eyeball.

You might want to look at some pics of different cloaks while you're at it. That may help with the weight and heft and natural looking folds as well.

Lol. One leg??? Not sure what that means. The main reason I don't do that is I'd much rather know that I have a nice, smooth finish on each layer. It would be almost impossible to get around some of this detail to "smooth it out later" The smoother the finish, the less filling, sanding, and coats of primer it'll need, so I will sculpt something(the chest emblem for example) let it cure, pop it off and a drop or two of super glue and its good to go.
Not saying that's the proper or only way to do it just something I figured out along the way :)

Definately gonna surf the interwebz before starting. I had already found a couple of slightly helpful pics before I started but it would help if actually used them!!!

Thanks for all the tips and suggestions so far folks! It's much appreciated.

Ah yes, I see that now. Still curious about it's meaning tho. Perhaps an inside joke that I missed somewhere, or perhaps old age has accelerated quicker than I want.......

It's from her WIP thread. She threatened to shoot anyone who mentioned an old commercial series, so the first thing I did was hit youtube. She then proceeded to kneecap me. LOL

I had a feeling it was brain related..... I read that part of her thread not even an hour ago and it already slipped away......That's scary. Maybe it's cuz the A/C in the house is broken.....yea, we'll blame it on that...

do they make bullet proof knee pads? might be a future in that business if you'ra running around knee cappin' folks!

No but I'm a daughter of a cop, so I know how to shoot and I know how to drive. Got the Tae Kwon Do too and last but certainly not least, I'm meaner than hell when you piss me off. (She says as she smiles sweetly.) :beauty:

Good grief woman! Roundhouse kick, shot to the knee cap, and a taser shot and a trip to jail to top it all off. That'll teach them there perps!!!

lol! But there maybe bonus points for appropriate use of the "Don't tase me bro!"

That's why I just paint. Shoot, the past couple of weeks at work have been really high stress and I've actually had to leave early because I was ready to unload on some people. I've never clocked out and went home due to rage but I was really sick of their crap.

Okay, we can't hijack a thread like TBS but we did our best! ;)

Especially if you re-post someone else's sentence because it is so damn weird when read out of context: "I had to really sand my horse when I was working on the eyeball. "

Say that to someone in a bar and watch the free space and grave silence radiate outwards. ^^
