Official Inspectors (Space Alert Crew)

My other hobby is playing board games. I decided to paint up some figures to replace the small plastic player pieces that come with the board game Space Alert. The official inspectors were perfect for what I wanted. The colour scheme was based on the player colours in the game. I picked red for the woman as I usually play red, green for the glasses character as that's my husband's favourite colour, and it amused me to paint the tough guy in purple. The sad part of this story is I haven't yet played the game! The numbers on their shoulder pads match the style of font and colouring used for numbers on the game pieces. Others have, and did enjoy playing with nicely painted figures, so I'm happy about that. These figs were my first go at doing any sort of batch painting on the trousers, boots and accessories. It definitely requires a different and patience-testing discipline. All told they took me 15-17 hours or so. The top picture was taken prior to any sort of sealing. I sealed them in gloss then again with Dullcote. I hadn't painted these with any competition in mind, but as I had them ready anyway, I decided to enter them into the Unit category at Gen Con 2009. I was very surprised and pleased that they were awarded second place in the category! I hope to get organized to paint another unit or two in the future.
