Ar-Finiel
I painted this figure as my entry for Cool Mini or Not Expo 2013, and I was very honoured when the judges selected it as the Best in Show. It was also judged as being of gold medal quality at the Reaper MSP Open contest in 2014. Usually I begin painting a contest entry by selecting a figure I want to paint, or putting together a scene or story. In this instance, I started with an idea for the colour scheme, and searched through my collection for a figure I felt would suit it. I picked out 11 paint colours (many of which were purples and teals), and mixed all colours for the figure and base from that selection. There were some challenges with that, but in the end I am pretty happy with how the colours came out, and I’m particularly pleased with the colour shifts in the cloth, skin and base. This is a fantastic sculpt, just a joy to paint. It is the kind of figure that makes me regret the idea of limited figures. It is so lovely that everyone who would like to should have an opportunity to own it, but alas it is sold out and commands a high price on the secondary market. This was my first finished resin piece, and the nature of the material added a bit of stress to completing the figure. The bow arm broke in two pieces while I was prepping it, and I feared one piece lost for good, but happily my husband was able to find it. I guess the nice thing about resin is that at least the breaks are so clean it’s easy to repair. ;->
