Fool's Gold aka The Mountain and the Molehill
I had a lot of fun working on this piece, and it's a great example of the benefit of working in a collaborative environment, something I'm not able to do as much as I would like. I started working on it at Reaper's ArtistCon in 2009. My only ideas going in were that I wanted to paint him in front of a hill or mountain outcrop, and wearing a plaid shirt.
Michael contributed a nifty piece of bark for the hill, as well as advice for weathering and painting true metallics. Jubilee gave me lots of feedback and suggestions, and helped me come up with the final scene idea. Sculptor Jason Wiebe helped me convert a squirrel into a mole. And I'm probably leaving out additional people who contributed suggestions and ideas. I'm very grateful to all of them for their support and shared creativity!
I was very pleased (and more than a little surprised) when this vignette was awarded First place in the Diorama category at Gen Con 2010. It was also awarded a Gold medal in the Open category at Reaper Miniatures' open style competition in 2011.
