Tiny Dragon, Big Attack

2007 was Gen Con's 40th anniversary, and in honour of that the painting competition included an additional category of anything dragon - sculpted, painted, freehand, whatever - any entry with a draconic element was considered. I thought that was a really fun idea, and although I didn't have time to do a seriously competitive entry (I'd have loved to have tried painting a dragon!), I got the idea for this and thought it was worth scrambling to finish in hopes of giving people a laugh. I finished it up in a few hours at the hotel the night before entries were due. The dragon is a Reaper familiar. The little guys are 10mm tall. I don't know who made them or what game they go with. They had a date of 1992 on their bases. I painted the fallen guy similiarly to his teammates, then did washes and stippling of browns and blacks to crisp him up. This is the first time I've ever painted anything in such a small scale. It was challenging in some respects, but also surprisingly fun. I'm impressed with how much detail the figures have considering both their size and date of manufacture.

Oh come on, Daniele - a 5 for the painting? Keep in mind these fellows are about 1/3 the height of a usual miniature - just 10mm - and painted and arranged in just a couple of hours. This should make it to a 7 for the painting. The dragon is just a small familiar! Great idea, nice little dio. Perhaps you should take a pic with a 30mm miniature and/or a ruler for size comparison.

10mm is really small, good job at those. The Dragon looks good too.
