Baiting the Trap

This figure was my main entry to the Gen Con 2007 painting competition. I was striving to paint it to place in the top three of its category in the main competition, and really pushed myself to do my best on this. I didn't achieve my goal, but I'm pleased with how hard I worked, and happy that the figure did win Best in Show in the Dark Sword Miniatures manufacturer category. I'm not adverse to cheesecake, but the inspiration behind this was to put the cheesecake in context. I know it'll disappoint a lot of guys out there to hear, but there are very few women who would wander around in a field topless and wearing stockings. ;-> Sculpting the clothes was a big challenge for me, as I have done little sculpting beyond base textures. Taking it in stages and practicing a few times on the cloak really helped. Painting-wise, this was my first try painting something transluscent, and I think the wrinkles in the cloth are key to selling the illusion. I got overenthusiastic in the prep on one ankle, so the wrinkles on one are pure paint. I'm also pretty happy with how the face came out, particularly the eyes, and I'm pleased to finally have a brunette hair recipe that I like.

Wow, beautifully smooth! The skintones are excellent, and the hair is a rich and warm tone that contrasts with the rest of the piece nicely. Good job on sculpting the clothes too!
