like it so far

the only thing that disturbs me is that edge between the head and the shoulderpad as i marked on the pic below
it looks a bit misplaced i think

I agree. The model is great overall, but there are a few things that I might change.
  • Turn it so he's looking about 10 or 15 degrees to HIS left
  • Shorten his neck, if you do nothing else: shorten his neck.
  • Also I would make sure the banner is obeying gravity; maybe it's just the pictures but it looks a bit like its following the shaft of the banner pole rather than true down.

Also... I honestly miss the little shields, I thought they added a nice touch while only obscuring boring details.

How's the rest of the army coming?

Thanks guys! The standard is getting closer to being done although I've managed to run out of batteries for the camera and need to make a trip out befoer I can get any pics. I've added long wavy hanging side banners that stream almost to the ground. (The one side goes behind the model.)

Desmosn: The gap is my fault. I raised the neck area to fit the head and left a space to sculpt a wolf pelt secured by the small shields. If I do this it will make that gap disappear. If I don't I'll need to add some bulk to the armour there to clean that up! Good eye! :)

Here are the open items:

1. The top finial on the banner pole. I may do a round shield with a sculpted design but I'm still not sure...

2. I may add wolf tails to the 3 points of the central banner. The only problem I have here is that the one point lines up over the shoulder.

3. The wolf pelt. I would like to do one over the shoulder if I can figure it out in the next week or so. I need to have this fella painted by June 5th so I'm starting to run short on time. (Espeically since I'm not sure how I want the grey to look!) :brushwave:

I'll be on holiday for a while so updates will be delayed!

Cheers!

Granddad!
If you want to make a large banner, take two pieces of a plastic bag, oil them up and place the lump of gs between them, then use a bottle or something as a rolling pin to make it as flat as you want it, let it cure for 20-30 min and then remove the plastic, make the basic banner shape, glue it onto the pole and then give it the wind flow. While it cures completely you need to be there to make sure it doesn't lose shape and a tip is to fixate the model in an angle so that the direction of the wind is what's facing down if you get what I mean...

no,no,
If you want to make a large banner, get some of this stuff

WHOA!!! Mickc22 is my new best friend.
I have been looking for a good version of plasticard with patterns for a long time and have been largely unable to locate anything decent. Now I will finally be able to finish the city half of my custom game board without resorting to plain cardboard buildings.

Thank you sir, BOOKMARKED.

well it's not actually plasticard, but it's not rubber either, it's somewhere in between, the video's on their website are worth watching

They were at Salute, they'd built this huge sailing ship out of the stuff.
They had these big starter packs and I forgot to go back and get one before we left :do'oh!:

Huh. I'll have to get some and see what it's like... I'll just have to get some money, and some free time first.

@Ajax: "There are a few things that I might change.

1. I can't really turn his head much more to the left, although I would like to!
2. The neck has been shortened. I've been using GS to tack everything in place and it had built up under his neck quite a lot! Whoops!
3. I took a sculptors advice and angled the banner a little to match the beard/stash angle. This is to give the model an overall flow. I was trying to capture a look of the wind blowing the banner slightly to the side.

"Also... I honestly miss the little shields, I thought they added a nice touch while only obscuring boring details."

They're back! Holding the fur pelt in place...

Thanks for the link Mick! I'll have to add some of those materials to my workbench! :)

Sorry for the delay everyone! I'm still working away behind the scenes. Well my holiday was cut a little short but I did manage to put what I hope are the finishing touches on the Grey Hunter standard bearer.

Here are the puzzle pieces:

The add ons: The back pack is made from two standard packs with all the other goodies added on.

The Banner:

Here is a back view with the cloak but without the backpack: After I get him painted I will smooth the join a little even though it disappears under the pack.

And here he is all tacked together.... As an overly anal painter I'm going to paint the pieces as I assemble him... If only I could decide on the grey!:

Front

Back

And for additional scale, here he is next to a scout model in a similar pose. I decided to change the chest detail a little as the back of the wolves neck looked wrong. I made it thicker and shortened the stylized fur.. :

So what's the verdict is he ready enough to paint?

I really need to move him off the workbench so that I can drag Bjorn back out and redo his CCW arm and add the details before I forget what I am planning!

@Mordeus "That dreadnaught is HUGE!!! Very cool though, as are your marines."

Thanks! I need to revist Bjorn and finish all the detailing and upsize his CCW. For 270 points he may as well be impressive! :)

Cheers!

For the rivets on your dread (and everything else that demands detail) you can raid the insides of a water jug filter such as the ones at this link:
http://www.brita.com.au/our_products/household/maxtra_jug_and_cask_range

If you carefully slice the filter open you will get a mix of charcoal and many many little ceramic balls of varying sizes. Perfect for making rivets, just drill out a little divet on your surface and glue them in with a bit of CA glue. The shattered charcoal you can use for detailing bases (it makes excellent filler as random shattered concrete around larger blocks).
You can even get a used one off of a friend and dry the contents out on a bed of paper towels.

Wow I can't believe I haven't posted to this thread in so long! It took longer then I expected to paint up a 2000 point Dark Eldar army. Ah well such is life. Here are a couple of shots of the finished standard bearer. Please forgive my mediocre camera skills... :)

Finished front: (Everything is freehanded.)

Almost finished back:

I have a couple of designs sketched out for the rear central red square but I haven't decided on the winner as of yet.

I'm currently upsizing Bjorn's claw arm and starting some long fangs. (They are proving to be 'long pains'!!!) :messed:

Any thoughts are welcome!

Cheers!

Well the first longfang is done enough for his photo op.

Here's a couple shots with a Howling Griffon ML for comparison...

And here are a couple close ups:

Still a little clean up needed on some joins/mold lines but he gives a good idea of how the squad will look. The normal ML was too short so I had to steal the Guard version and make a few mods to it. (It was actually a little too long!) What are you gonna do? :)

I thought I'd drop in some WIP shots so anyone even considering this type of project can check with their therapist first...

Here are a couple of torsos with the first layer of new armour plates sculpted on. The sky really is the limit in what you do with them! And given that the wolves are so inidivdualistic it works well if they all look a little different too! These guys will get enhanced chest armour after the lower torso armour dries thouroughly. Waiting is always the hardest part for me!!!

And my favorite Mk of armour has to be the good old fashioned Iron Armour. I like the overall look and it is far easier to do than those fiddly cables in the stomach area!!! Here are a couple guys on their way to suiting up with a little help from some Grey stuff...

http://i.imgur.com/0fXdW.jpg
And here's one of the first guys I finished with a set of special legs I started this weekend. They are for a much 'larger' wolf! :smile-big:

Well. Back to the old sculpting table. Any thoughts or ideas are always welcome! The finished standard bearer model received a lot of group think alterations over the course of building him which were much appreciated. I guess that I am now officially a gaming geek! :tremble:
