Just roughing it out. The lower jaw\'s good, I think, though I\'m probably going to redo the top because the armor plating warped a little bit while I was trying to bend it to the curve.

Excellent work all around.

I\'ve been following this thread here and on various other boards (Librarium Online, Dakkadakka, etc). Do you have a blog or website where you\'re keeping the progress? Be nice to have a \"central\" area to check regularly.

have you already sorted the shells out?
I was thinking Bend some copper strip (get it at most model shops )
Once you\'ve got the shape glue the rounds in place.
you could then use plasticard pieces to represent the clips.
or hyper detail clip half round plastic piiping on the strip and clip the rounds in place.
The more movement you get on this piece the better it will look ...
The whole thing is fantastic.

I think the reason the head of your model looks different to the artwork is that the teeth are rotated through 90 degrees.

I may be wrong, but it looks as though the teeth in the artwork lie along a verticle plane perpendicular to the one your teeth lie in...

let me try to explain.

grip one of the lower teeth between finger and thumb with finger on the top point and thumb on the bottom point of the \"diamond\" shape, then \'spin\' the tooth between your fingers 90 degrees, cut a slot in the bottom and drop it over the lower jaw...

i probably made that more complicated than it needed to be, but thats what it looks like to me...

With respect to following the original\'s jaw design..

Which would you guys say looks best? I placed the teeth in a front-facing fashion to try and portray the typical ork gob.. but the illustration has the teeth turned out, like such:

ganthead.jpg

The right one follows the illustration\'s design for the jaw, but I don\'t know if it looks as orky as the teeth-facing-front one on the left.

I don\'t know if this sort of design would match the top teeth, as well, as they look like they face in the \'forwards\' kind of way that the picture on the left portrays.

I think your current design looks much cooler, meaner and more orky.

I have followed this thread with great interest and will continue to do so until this is finished. I think what you\'ve done so far is fantastic! :)

Yep I agree with Ritual stick to your design oh and don\'t change the bit that warped it looks more natural/Orkish as it is after all they are not known for quality craftmanship

I have to remake that top section anyway, as there\'s a dip in the top that I neglected to add that I had in the illustration.

Try having only the two large tusks rotated by 90 degrees, and the other ones being normal. The concept art also appears to have them more curved than in your right diagram.

I\'m leaving the lower jaw as it is, I think.

Let\'s talk about the top jaw. The illustration has a row of smaller, sharp teeth spaced close together, as far as I can see. I pinned the jaw for the teeth should I decide to do them that way.. but which do you guys prefer? Row of small sharp teeth, or larger ones?

what if you used a composite of the two designs...so each tooth was like a \"+\" shape, when viewed from above. this would give it the look you want from the profile as well as the front, and its suitably mean and orkey.

I gave the larger teeth a shot.. they\'re just pinned in, not glued, so they can come out if I decide to change them. I\'m left with a gap between the front two top teeth that I was going to fill in before I started thinking.. If I put a flamer in the mouth behind the teeth, should I.. leave the gap there? So the flamer has some clearance to shoot through the mouth? I don\'t know if I should remake the top\'s teeth.

Given that there will be a flamer there - no doubt a large one given the size of the model - the gap makes a lot of sense. Also adds a lot of character to the piece. I can hear him whistleing across the battlefield now...

I threw a half-as-long tooth in there for the flames to shoot around. :p

gargant106.jpg

Anyway, by tomorrow afternoon I hope to have a circuit in hand that I can wire into the head to power the LEDs and flickering light. I\'m actually thinking that I should revise the flickering red light from a grotpit light to a \'flamer\' light, if it\'s suitable.. providing a bit of a glowing flicker from inside the jaws where the flamer is tucked away to indicate the \'pilot light\' on the thing burning.

I also plan on putting small panes of clear plasticard in the eyes so that I can sand the surface of them a bit and get them to diffuse the light form the LEDs behind it. I think I\'m going to hinge the jaw, as well, as it just looks cool to play around with opening and closing it. :p It\'d be cool to open the jaws up when I\'m using the flamer anyway. I made the eyes the same square shape.. I considered mismatching them, but it just looked silly and trivialized the face\'s meanness. The rest of the model\'s comedy, and the head draws a lot of attention, so I want it to read as ferocious.

This project is truely great!!!

I just had an idea on the flamer. Why not have it come out from the \"mouth\". Have is stick out like a cigar on one side of the mouth like so.

teeth

I\'m totally with juckto and RedSevenBlue on the big canine teeth issue.

As to the upper teeth, fewer teeth looks better than lots of teeth. A central tooth always looks bad. So if this were a democracy I\'d vote for larger teeth with a gap.
