Hi everyone. I don\'t usually post on Cmon forums but I couldn\'t help reacting to this :) If French people do not go to GD\'s, that doesn\'t mean we have stopped painting... Games Day is not a priority when painters are professional just like Cyril or Allan for instance.
Just to reassure you if necessary, french painting community is perfectly alright and we are painting more than ever, even though we do not travel all over the world to compete in a GD with our miniatures :D

Cheers,

Still no contest with the spanish lads lol France was rather unrepresented his year :(
I learned that my works quite good though (in other peoples eyes, I\'m a cronic self hater lol), so next year i\'m going to make an effort :)
...And learn how NOT to murder my work with horrible pictures. I learned thats a massive Key part of it all too!

I\'m guessing this is the FW greater Demon of Nurgle..........if it is it\'s a bit disappointing, not as grotesque as I thought it would be, I was expecting to be violently sick just looking at it.

Is he kneeling down or has he lost a foot?

Congrats on everyone who took part and won something on the day.

Hi all!

Wow... my first ever Golden Demons!

Glad I got to pop along and kinda say hi at the CMON meet-up, though only really introduced myself to Dragonsreach (only person I recognised and that was because of his avartar), in hindsight I really felt I should have made more of an effort to say hi to some of the painters there :-(

As others have said... there were some great minis, and a few slightly odd decisions (as there always seems to be)...

As my first ever demons, and having only been seriously back into painting (since I used to when I was a kid) for about nine months, I was shocked and amazed to see both of my entries make it to the judging table in 40K single and 40K monster! My 40K monster (a nightbringer painted up with it\'s cloak as a moth\'s wings, with a swarm of moths trailing behind it incase anyone saw it) missed out on placing by a hairs breadth and appeared to be the last mini they de-selected when they chose the final three! Considering I really didn\'t think it was very good at all, I was gobsmacked!

As others have said.... I am sufficiently excited by having got so close... that I\'ve already begun design work on entries for five categories for next year.... statistically, if I made top ten in two categories this year, I should get a demon if I enter five categories next year! :) (I can but dream!)

I\'m exhausted.... but all in all, it was an amazing experience.

Desperately looking forward to seeing some photos of the finalsists and winners.... there was some truly inspirational work there I wish I\'d been able to look closer at.

Oh, and I almost forgot to say....

GO TEAM HARROW!!!!!!

I went up with two other painters from the Harrow GW store with serious intentions in GD... and ALL THREE of us made it to the judging table in the finals!!!!

It was pretty awesome , so major congrats go out to Richard and Chris too....

We\'ll all be back next year as a PROPER team and hope to some away with some bigger bits of metal than the handfulls of finalist pin badges we got this year! ;-)

(though I thought they were a nice touch, it\'s nice to come away with something to show for six months of hard work!!!)

Ben

Just wanted to say I had a blast meeting up with everyone, I especially enjoyed my time talking with Adrian Bay. The contest was increadable and I want to congratulate everyone who won. I think its been brought up but I won a gold in 40K Vehicle. I hope to have pictures up later this week after I get back home and settel in.

I look forward to next years season of Games days in America and Europe.

I\'ll need to introduce you all to Our brand of drinking and humour
I would have loved to have met more international painters though :(

Well done Target, your regiment was very nice. If you had gone a little less extreme with the amount of leaves you put on you possibly could have placed higher too I think. And it was the Halfling regiment that almost pipped you to the post by the way, the Cold Ones were out of the running by that point.

Darkartminiatures - I almost dropped your Chaos Champion *blushes*. Lost it then managed to catch it again in my grubby mitts before it clattered to the ground. Sorry!

Rocketandroll - shut up you crazy fool. Modesty is a virtue but underselling your skills that much is idiotic! Your Nightbringer was obviously a fantastic miniature and easily deserved to be fighting it out for a trophy.

Oh, and the only conversation I had with Adrian Bay was him telling me \'hold it by the edge of the base!\' when he handed me his Open entry to put in the cabinet. As if I was gonna just grab the frickin model. Perhaps I had a maniacal look of glee in my eyes as I aproached him and he was worried I was a crazy person! ;)

ONLY 1 PROBLEM !!!!

I really enjoyed my G.D. ,meeting all the people I have been chatting to on C.M.O.N. over the last 6 months.
Its great to put faces to all the on site silly names!
Well done young BILL !!!,an excellent mini, sorry to IONA for mistaking him for a maniac(next time stop & chat ,I would have loved a proper introduction )
My biggest regret/ dissapointment of the day is 6 hours is just not long enough for any decent socialising.I know I whine on about how things are done in the Military Modelling world ,BUT....All the big shows last 2-3 days, 9-6pm.Which means you get plenty of time to meet up , chat and generally enjoy being together.Evening meals together are a great way to share our love of minis with each other.Sadly for me 6 hours meant time only to have snatches of coversations with some people & a return journey feeling paranoid I missed some one or appeared rude to someone else.
I suppose a 2 day show will never happen , the N.E.C. is to far out & the target audience for G.W. is not us boring old farts (25-50s) but the hordes of 8-16s for whom an over night stay would be a logistic nightmare, especially for the parents
What more can I say , I blinked & it was all over???.
GOD bless ...........VINCENTIlollol

OI!!! I\'m 25!!! I say 30+. I\'ll review that when I hit 30...
It was nice to meet you Adi! I think you managed to get a word with just about everyone from the looks of it ;)

Yes, you are right there. it just isn\'t long enough.

They should make the show start on saturday and end on sunday, 9-6 sound sok, but even 9-5 would make me happy.

Cheers, that\'s nice to hear :)

It started out as (I thought) a really nice idea... but the conversion didn\'t come out anywhere near as cleanly as I hoped (my greenstuffing skills were/aren\'t up to mutch, and I did the modelling on that a few months ago, I\'ve had much more practise since then) and when it came to paint it... I began noticing all the bits I could have done far better.... and it kinda made me loose interest in it a bit, so I rushed it and didn\'t put in the care and attention to detail I know I could have done.

Of course, knowing now that despite all that.... it was still judged worthy of being on that final judging table.... is pretty incredible... I\'m still grinning!!

Just got back from my local store after buying more parts for my first couple of entries for next year :)

Oh, and I concur that It\'d be great to have the event longer, even a two-day event.... but as you say... for the majority of the attendees (<16yo\'s who have come up on a coach accompanied by a handfull of harrassed GW staff) a two-day event is just not practical.

Ben

PS: I loved the Dryad squad.... totally awesome! Did you get the leaves for the different species of trees all etched specially, or did they come from some (very) specialist scenery modelling supplier?

My home PC (the one with Photoshop on it) is down at the moment (burnt out HD) so it may be a week or so before I get my two entries up here on CMON, but they will be up don\'t worry.

Now, I\'m off to try and do some serious scuplting!!!

One other question that I don\'t know if anyone else has asked or not.... but...

Having specifically been told that joint entries were banned (By Tom himself).... how did they manage to award demons in two categories to joint entries?

Or do the rules only apply to newbies ;-)

Both my entries made first cut, despite my giant needing major repairs before registration, and then having to take him out of the cabinet cause the grot tickling the foot of the halfling in the sack with a feather fell off later!

(mine was the giant with the howdah and banner on his shoulder and the grot singing from his club on the slate base having smashed his way through a fence if anyone saw it. There was also a grot swinging from the tail of the cow sticking his two\'s up at his squished mate that could not be seen from the way he was displayed). Deep down I knew he was not good enough to win but I really pushed my painting and moddeling skills on him and was stoked to get first cut anyway!

It was great to meet everyone who I did, and I really enjoyed chatting to Jakob and Adrian as I have loved their stuff for ages. Dragonsreach was as friendly as his avatar suggests and I was suprised how he remembered everyones names after meeting them just once!

The vostroyans were better looking in real life, even under shoddy brum arena lighting!

Plus- what Ben just said. I was a bit like \'eh???\' when two people went up to collect two demons. Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks for the comments much appreciated, especially since I\'m such a newbie.
The leaves were brought over the net from scalelink.co.uk, although they were a bit on the pricey side.
