If you expect him not to live up to his expectations are they still expectations or are they un-expectations? Un-expect the expected or should that be just plain pected as it\'s not ex any more? You expect him not to live up to everyone else\'s expectations except that we all know that he won\'t live up to those expectations, so who expected them in the first place? Does he expect to live up to those expectations or should we accept that his expectations may differ from our own expectations or possibly un-expectations which I expect would be un-acceptable? If he accepts that his expectations are low (excepting the un-expected expectations) then he could well expect to live up to them, which is perfectly acceptable. If on the other hand he himself accepts that he can not live up to everyone elses expectations, un-expected or otherwise then that is indeed completely un-acceptable.

I expect we\'ll have to wait for the acceptance speech to find out...

I mean that people have such high expectations of him, thanks to media coverage and everything else, that they will be greatly disappointed when he cannot make all of their wildest dreams come true.

Personally as long as he is better than bush, which I imagine everyone is, I will be happy.

Anyone can live up to their own expectations. Underestimate and over deliver. Then one can meet their expectations, AND MORE!

Cake or Death?
A couple of thoughts:

- We still have little idea of what Obama is going to *do* as president. I voted against him, but I know so little about his actual plans that I may end up being pleasantly surprised anyways.

- We elected a black-skinned man as president. Good for us, I suppose. It\'s nice to know that a man\'s skin color still means something in politics.

- I wouldn\'t mind having world opinion favoring my country once again. It\'s been a long time since world war 2, and I think it\'s about time. The Carter/Reagan/Bush I/Clinton/Bush II years were especially bad for us.

- The media has been especially supportive of Obama. I wonder how this is going to change if Obama decides to \"spread the wealth\" of those large media corporations.

Sorry if I sound bitter. I\'m not bitter - I\'m just politically jaded :D

If Obama wants to tax the hell out of large corporations that is fine with me.

I am still against the bail out. I think giving 700 billion to a bunch of greedy corps is worthles but I understand its purpose. What I do not understand is why the big wigs at Wachovia, if I remember correctly, spent $400,000 of that money on a business vacation to a spa.

So hopefully Obama will tax the hell out of corps. They should be the ones to pay back that large sum of money anyways.

Totally agree. Jeremiah Wright was Obama\'s pastor for the last 20 years. We could see what REAL fanaticism is all about.

Be very careful what you wish for here. America is a nation of consumers. That is, we ALL buy from corporations. When corporations get taxed and over-taxed, that cost has to be absorbed somehow.
It\'s a very basic equation----businesses operate on two factors and two factors alone---liquidity and profitability.
If the margins go down due to high taxes, the only logical outcome is the prices go up.

Those increased prices are the same prices we pay when buy shit from corporations.....

I heard on the radio yesterday that their was a voting both in a mostly african american neighborhood in florida with only one voting booth. The line had over 100 people in it and it was taking a long time to place votes. Apparently this made the local republicans mad so they walked up and down the length of the line informing everyone that democrats were suppose to vote on wednesday and not tuesday and people actually went home! lol

Talk about a good way to stop stupid people from voting.

@Rodnik: You are right. Ultimately we would be paying the taxes they incur. Pisses me off

Didn\'t Obama resign from that church and dis-associate himself from Wrights\' point of view?

Same deal with Bill Ayers - unrepentant murdering (literally) domestic terrorist. Obama denied, marginalised, admitted a little bit, then a little more etc..... The man has dark ties and seems to attract dark ties. If McCain had one KKK member attached to him it would have been front page news and he would have been finished LONG ago. Since the media was in the bag for Obama this is all cool with them. Guys like Ayers and his ilk can have a nasty tendency to turn on their own - \'no honor amongst thieves\'.

Not to mention it is the corporations that employ the vast majority of us.
Tax them too much, make too much red tape, and they will simply pick up and head for countries that are friendlier.

I love when the answer to people problem is to \"Take from the rich\". MOst wealthy individuals and corporations tend to be a tad crafty and play for all the marbles. Start telling them that they are the ones picking up the cheque for their countries problems and see what happens.

We could use the extra population boost in Canada anyway.
