I worked with an Iraqi who was fortunate enough to have emigrated here very shortly before the original occupation and her stories truly are horrific.

While I belive that living under Saddam was horrific (at least if you weren´t a bath-partymember) that doesn´t make an invasion and occupation legal, nor does it explain why the US (and the rest of us) doesn´t go in in force in all the other hotspots in the world where people are being treated even worse than under Saddam - like the tutsi-massacre in Rwanda, and lastly all it does is destabilize an entire region leading to even more fanatic nutjobs in power solely because they are anti-american (think Mahmoud Ahmadinejad).

You may have a point, but just as you said in your statement about free healthcare being an imperfect solution - it doesn\'t mean we shouldn\'t try.

It would be great to go into regions all over the world and really \"Kick the crap\" out of the bad guys (sounds more low brow then I meant...) but truthfully a place like Iraq vs some of the other regions is that Iraq DOES have infrastructure etc. in place that may give it a larger hope for rebulding itself afterwards. Maybe...

I\'m not trying to say I know what to do, I just know that the Iraqi regime HAD to get sorted out, and at least this time we\'re not doing a hit and run so the same people can take power again. Perfect? Hells no. But just something I happen to support. I would also support our intervention into some of the other spots in the world. Having said that I personally hope to never have to come face to face with armed conflict and would NOT want my children enlisting either. So maybe I\'m a bit two faced about it.

Ah well. Props for keeping things civil minded Slah et all...

To change the subject, I love how its 3 days post election and every special interest group already has their hands out looking for their reward for getting Obama elected..wanting..no demanding everything form cabinet positions to programs wanting funding..

Well yeah, but that\'s not anything new. There\'s an anecdote related by Shelby Foote about President Lincoln. He was getting the same sort of reaction from the people who helped him get elected, and when asked by one supporter why he looked so down, he replied:

\"There\'s too many pigs for the tits.\"

The more things change...

I\'m going to use this quote at least three times a day! It won\'t neccesarily make sense in the context but I love it!
