Cheers guys!

I've got 3 old school minotaurs in my unpainted collection, one is the old "Doombull" version who's a little bigger and they've all got loads of character.

Despite being distracted with the World Cup, I did manage a little over half an hour this evening to start on the left bicep. At the moment, just a basecoat and a little shading. I need to add a few midtones again, which is much clearer in the photos.

I feel a bit daft posting such a small progress, but meh, what the hell it's all fun

Cheers dudes, I'm really happy with how it's developing.

One again, painted after work, between World Cup games, so just a short session. It's kind of fun to limit myself to only 30 minute painting sessions and focus on small sections of the model.

Worked in some highlights today to the bicep. I need to add a few glazes where the transition is a little loose, but as KruleBear says, any progress is progress.

And now for the "closer" view to help me work out what needs touching up.

Bit of painting on Thursday evening and this morning. Smoothed the skin tone transitions on the bicep. I also added some additional shading in the deeper areas.

I had planned to paint a little more this morning, but I could feel my concentration getting away from me, so I stepped away.

Blocking in some minotaur fur, the fur gauntlet thing on the wrist, and the hand has a first very thin layer (many, many more to go).

It was at this point that I realised quite how horrible my putty filling work on the join at the elbow is.

I'm not sure if I'll just paint it as skin, and see if I can get away with it, or whether I'm going to bite the bullet and file it down, re-prime and paint it.

Blocking in some of the fur helps me feel a bit more confident that the colours of the fur and the skin work together.

Zoomed in, shows off a nasty mouldine I missed, and also the messy elbow join.

Brilliant work man, looks really good!!! Hmmm so I wouldn’t go stripping it now it’s looking really good. Perhaps you can find an alternative option, maybe paint it as scar tissue of get some really fine chain and wrap it around? Or roll out some green stuff really thin and make a thin strip and wrap it around, to look like wrapping (kind of like what’s around the wrists?

@ChaoticCreations: haha yeah stripping the thing would have been a bit extreme - that was my frustration at not preparing the mini as well as I could (again) and just jumping straight in with a brush!

@alim192: Thanks mate, I've being trying to bring in more contrast on this one than I've ever done before

Not much in the way of hobby activity the past couple of days, as Sunday I was out all day with a big gang of mates at the local sports bar watching England, and then yesterday evening I went for a run (despite it being like 29 degrees c outside!). However, I have today off due to an appointment later on this morning, so took the opportunity to revisit the minotaur.

I decided to look at sculpting over the crappy putty work in the joins at the elbow. I'm not a very experienced sculpter, so I decided the easiest thing to do would be to extend the fur on the wrist gauntlets up to the elbow.

I think it looks neater, but I think I'll need to add a couple of strappings like there are nearer the wrist, to balance it out a bit, but I think I'd better let the putty dry first. I may try sculpting these too, but I have got some thin plasticard that I could use instead, as I think I'll find it difficult to make them a consistent width as per closer to the wrist.

Anyway, some photos:

Nice work on the sculpting. To be honest I think the fur you've sculpted looks better than the fur that's already there.

Cheers guys, I think it came out quite well considering.

Went for a run tonight so painting time has been limited, but having basecoated the fur yesterday, I had a random idea to try something a little different with the fur, rather than another varying tone of brown. Instead I thought "maybe this minotaur had been on safari?". Tonight I spent a few minutes basecoating the fur and applying the starting point of a pattern. It needs a lot of work haha, but hopefully people can see what I'm going for!

Cool concept so far- you did great with blending in the new sculpting. It looks seamless now that there's paint on it!

I said it that it was perfect against the old fur, and honestly I knew RXACTLY what you were going for before i even read your thread. Looks like a leopard skin. Excellent work.

Thanks everyone, I'm quite pleased with the sculpting particularly as it's only just to hide the messed up gap filling haha.

I'm a little "meh" about the leopard skin to be honest, but I'm going to persevere with it just because it's something a little different. I'm not going to get much painting time next week, but I have got a fortnight off work coming up with little planned, so will get some more done then. Probably have a couple of other painting projects on the go just to switch things up.

Little bit done this morning though:

Added some definition to the pattern, and a small spot of orange-yellow in the middle of the circles. Also started on the straps on the wrist. The colour lacks a bit of contrast, so I may end up making the black so they stand out a little more. Oh and a little gun metal basecoat on the odd chain thing around the guys neck. Slow going at the moment!

I think the leopard fur is a good idea. Should differentiate the fur he's wearing on his forearms from the fur around his head that belongs to him

@Foxtail - cheers mate, I think the ideas alright, just I'm not convinced by my execution of it! Oh well, gotta try eh?

@KruleBear - ta - I wish I could say that was intentional haha

I'm cockatiel sitting for the next week, so painting time is limited by "bird out time", but I did press ahead this morning.

Worked on the skin on the hand, the left leg, and the left arse cheek. A little bit of drybrushing on the minotaurs fur - finding it tricky as the texture is a little soft in a few places.
