Cheers dudes!

A little progress tonight on the blood claws weapons. Building up some layers on the red casings to come through as highlights. Not too obvious, but they're there!

Laughing a a little at the sponge in the background of the photos, didn't notice it at the time!

the sponge is on my desk for a reason - I was using a little piece of it glued to a paper clip to add some weathering to...

Just a a little silver streaks here and there to look a bit worn in. Also did a bit on the droid to highlight and paint on some orange rings, though it's a really small model so probably a little tough to spot (and not too neatly done either)

Thanks Clarke!

Put some finishing touches to the x-wing today, not much really, but I know the difference hahaha. Also airbrushed the base black as it was a little overly shiny as bare plastic, and there was kind of like plastic flow marks on it that I didn't like. Also dotted BB-8's black eye, just because.

Cheers guys!

I've got loads of Star Wars models to work through - the original trilogy Star Wars models from the movie are basically THE reason I'm into models I guess.

Tonight I moved back on to the Blood Claw. Crappy photos as usual, but mostly working on trying some glazing / layering of the main space wolf colours. ,more of an experiment in trying to better understand the technique. Seems to me that it's all about thin paint, moving th pigment towards the direction you want it to lie. But I'm going,to need loads of practice haha

I've not managed to get much painting done this week, it's been busy at work, and my hobby / home office room is the coldest room in the house (the double glazing is terrible), and with the temperature dropping it's been hard to motivate myself to spend any time in there!

However, I did promise myself to move the Blood Claw along today, so I whipped out the paints and made a bit of progress.

I wanted to try a few different techniques on this guy, starting with trying out a bit of glazing too do some smoother transitions. In some places, I think this has come out pretty well, in others it's a a lot rougher. I tried to be a bit more adventurous with the eye lenses, to make them more interesting, but I'm not a big fan of the glowing eye effect, so I just tried to make them look a little reflective.

I also had a few places on the model where the preparation was not too good (one of the shins had a purity seal which I'd scraped off years ago, and was clearly visible after painting), so I wanted to make this look a bit more like battle damage. This wasn't something I've attempted before, so in some places it's a bit much, but I do like the effect, so with a bit of refining for future models, I think that's something I'll continue trying.

Also did a bit of free hand on both shoulder pads. The one is the pack marking (which still needs work), but the other, which is the sigil of chosen Great Company (Krom Dragongaze), I think hasn't come out too badly for a first attempt.

With him moving along quite nicely, I thought today was as good a time as any to stick him together too.

Not shown here, but I've also started work on the base, but there's nothing to interesting to show about that!

On to the photos (WIP, but taken in the photo booth just so I could get in a little tighter with the pictures) - hope they show up as I'm linking to my Flikr account

Looking very good droid... oh my those lenses are top notch !!! I’m with you, I’m really not a fan of the OSL lenses (although if done exceptionally well it can look quite effective). Battle damage came up a treat too...

Merry Belated Christmas!

Cheers for the comments everyone.

Despite having time off, as its Christmas I've done very little hobby work as I've been spending time with my family at my parents and out, but today I was back home.

Ive not done anything with the Blood Claw though, I've mostly been fiddling around with an A-Wing model kit from AMT/ERTL. I'm not sure how interested everyone is on this forum with models that aren't perhaps "miniatures" so to speak, but I'll pop the WIP on here nevertheless.

This was originally going to be just an out of the box build, but I couldn't bring myself to put it together without a couple of improvements.

Although the kit is pretty simple and basic, I wanted to replace the raised panel lines, so I had to try scribing panels for the first time. Ropey in some places, so some filler was needed:

Panel lines are done on the top half too, but I've already moved on to airbrushing the cockpit, so the scribed panel lines are hidden by masking here:

Cockpit seat painting:

I also can't stand the pilot in the kit, so I bought a replacement at a bigger scale. Even though it's not screen accurate (the original definitely wasn't anyway), but I'll paint it as if it were.

The original pilot:

As as you can see, there's no detail, and the helmet and hands, well yeah, you can see why I didn't want to use it.

The new one is a 1:48 scale Hasagawa fighter pilot. I'm much happier with him.

The the position of the arms is a bit, well odd, but I needed to make sure that he fits in the cockpit, so there's a bit of trimming, bending and filling here so that he squeezes into the kit and doesn't stop the canopy closing.

It's a far better pilot than the original.

First of all, an update on the A-Wing.

Added first layers to the pilot, and painted the cockpit (be warned, blurred photos incoming!):

Also think I've pretty much finished this guy now.

Mostly painting the base today. Tried a few different techniques on the base, as I normally seem to end up with either something that doesn't have a lot of contrast, or ends up being a bit of an old school 90's grassy hill. So this time I tried one of the citadel 40k molded bases, and applied a few various different coloured washes to get a kind of grimy and oily effect. I also decided to go for a bit of a toxic ooze kind of bubbly liquid between the floor plates. I did originally just have this as mud, but it was too boring, and I wanted a bit more contrast. I've not tried this before, but I think it adds a spot of something different that I quite like.

Nice work on that marine man, it came up a treat... the battle damage is really effective, and great job on the freehand icon, a very clean job... now to be brutally honest (sorry) I think the shadow and highlight lines are way too uniform, don’t get me wrong it looks outstanding for a table top standard, but for display quality painting these need to be blended a bit better into and out of the base colour...please don’t think I’m trying to dis’ your work, I just know you’ve got the brush control and skill to push your limits a little and move into some of the advanced techniques. You’ve got nothing to lose by trying, but everything to gain :) that’s how I look at it anyways...
As for the model kits, I can’t speak for everyone else but I don’t mind seeing them, especially Star Wars ones (major fan here)... you did a stellar job on that xwing, so can’t wait to see how this A wing turns out!!!

@Chaotic Creations - haha not harsh at all! I'm not sensitive in the slightest when it comes to feedback, I genuinely appreciate any comments and suggestions. I know exactly what you mean when you talk about the shading and highlights. When I painted in my youth, I neither highlighted or shaded beyond a wash so I'm still learning and experimenting. I also hardly ever finished a model, so I'm trying to balance improving my technique and completing models

@Coyotebreaks - cheers! I've got a tonne of marines, but I find them a little tricky with all the flat areas, it's weird because they look like they should be easier!

What a busy start to 2018! Work has been manic, and I've been trying to do a few more things over weekends, so my free time has been limited and it's been losing out to watching Game of Thrones!

In a way, being busy at work is a bit of a relief as it had gone quite quiet for us over the summer and autumn, but it's been ludicrously busy since October - as a project manager, I'm running five or six projects at the moment, one went live Friday, another two due for end of January, and another customer has approached us for a data migration for end of January, and we've just lost a team member, it's going to be chaotic for the next few weeks. Phew, knackered even thinking about it now.

Todays the first time I've really done anything beyond priming since New Year. Not much to show, but I have one photo of the A-Wing:
39682217621_75d4d6e27a_z_d.jpg

Pre shading and basecoat started, using plasticine to mask the laser cannons and cockpit.

My computer has broke too now, so getting photos from my digital camera is going to be tricky, so stuck with iPad photos for the time being!

Hope everyone is having a good New Year!

Cheers folks! I'm nearly up to date on GOT - finished season 6 last night and have bought season 7. There's only 7 episodes I believe so i might have this all finished by the end of next week lol

This is a quick post because coolminiornot keeps preventing me from posting as suddenly it thinks I'm a spam robot - it would piss me off, if it weren't for the fact that I enjoy the irony that "DroidWorkshop" can't post because I'm considered a robot!

Not much to show, but basecoat of the red markings on the A-Wing have been applied. It was hard to mask, so there's a fair bit of missed spots and overspray to clean up, but you'll get the gist of what it's supposed to look like. Red markings done via airbrush in Khorne Red which actually matches the movie model pretty well funnily enough. My computer has now broken, so I'm stuck posting and photo taking on an iPad, which sucks.

Piccies:

If this actually posts, I'll be very pleased!

Im going to hairy brush touch up all the missed spots and overspray tomorrow, and try and get some finishing touches to the pilot.

As always, comments, suggestions, criticisms, and general ego massaging always welcome ??????
