im working slowly and will eventually be ready to take the next step. but for you i shall post a pic. i took some artistic license and lit up allot of the book, just cuz it seems like he is using the light to read a spell or something

From the angle of that you appear to be getting the idea. I will often take liscense and push the light, a bit, into more areas than would be normal. You might do the tops of the fittings on the pole. Leave the top 1/4, undre the flame, unlit though.

sorry to keep people waiting so long. the heat here has been evil with my paints. i put a drop out, and it dries soooo fast. stupid weather. grumble grumble.
anyone know a way to fix it? should i paint over the AC vent or something lol
and somebody stole my lamp!
ok, enough bitching by me...ill try to get some pics up later.

i do wet it, it just feels like a waste of paint when half of it dries before i use it all. anywho....
heres a pic. im having trouble on figuring out what to highlight now.
and, on the parts that will obviousley be much darker, like under the arms and stuff, should i make that an even darker grey?
plus, if anyone else is trying out OSL, please post some WIPs.

Two I just finished. The crystals in the top Destroyer really do glow lilke that (without any help from little lights). It was kind of an accident that worked to my benifit. I had painted the socket where the crystals go white so as to backlite them and they did glow from certain angles but when I did the final spray of dullcoat, unexpected to me, they REALLY lit up. The dullcoat seems to act as a diffuser and more evenly scatter the light comming off the backlighting. Love it!

My new camera does seem to be helping too.

Cheating?

I\'ve been following this thread, because OSL is something I\'d love to try, well, now I\'m going to try it. It\'ll be a week or two befor I actually get started though.

But first a cheat: instead of guessing where the light falls from the source, how about using an airbrush? The brazier is clear in the first pic. The second pic shows the brazier removed, and with the nozzle of the airbrush placed where the light source is.

With a black basecoat, the airbrush should automatically blend where the light falls obliquely to the mini surfaces, and the shadows that the mini makes on itself should be clear. Think it\'d work? Or is this disgusting and immoral?

I\'m in awe of TAB\'s work, and each time I think it couldn\'t be better, Shawn keeps suggesting improvements...

I\'m in awe...............what a GREAT idea. My thought is - whatever get\'s the job done. You may have just solved one of the major hurdles of the OSL process. I have had a real hard time explaining the \'where to put the lit areas\' concept. THANK YOU!!

Yeah baby !!!

Could not have done it with out you Shawn!!!!!

Got to 6th place at one point ...lol I kept taking screen shots, i got to say I love the new top 20 feature Chern added even with duplicate pictures so many more people in the mix...

Edit :I am trying to master the airbrush for doing nylons on the big girls 1/6th scale ninja....thank goodness for simple green lol I still like flesh with a brush like I was taught but I see the functions the airbrush can create.
Kinda a pain to set ready paint.but i think I may just need a better storage system and area to work in.

@provoke me - Looks like you are good to go.

There is a way I normally do OSL and a progression I go with which you might say is \'my look\'. I tend to like warm, Rembrandt/Vermeer light, especially when there is a flame involved. Do you want your mini to have a warm look or say, a normal, white light look?
