Guys, you’re all diamonds. Sadly no progress on Dave from this week, but in my continuing quest to discover new materials, and spend money, I bought some of this stuff https://culturehustle.com/products/...orld-s-mattest-flattest-blackest-art-material. Black 2.0

Supposed to be really, really, black and non-reflective. So I thought I’d give it a test on some spare heads. Out of the bottle it’s a standard artist’s acrylic, thick and gloopy. I thinned it down enough that it flowed through my airbrush.

Top on is normal Vallejo model air black. Goes on ultra smooth and has a satin texture, but is plenty dark.
The bottom is Black 2.0. It goes on smooth, but isn’t that dark. It is, however, the most matte thing I’ve ever seen. Honestly, I’ve had bathmats with more gloss to them.

The best use I could think of was as a wash. So I put some metal colour chrome down, thinned the Black to wash consistency and tried it out.

Works quite well. The flatness suits shadows well.

All in all, works quite well, and I’m sure I’ll find some uses for it. Oh, and it smells like cherry

Hey wow, I like the look of this stuff, being so matt could be great for toning down colours as in mixing it to grey and using for desaturation? Damn it, I’m going to have get some now, I’m very intrigued:)

It's interesting stuff certainly, I'll be finding some ways of incorparating it.

Finally managed to get a bit more done on Dave.

Glazed on the desaturated shadows and higlights for his pecs of steel and neck. Once the torso is done I'll go back with some purple glazes over the skin.

I was waiting to see what the Idoneth Deepkin looked like before I planned what I was going to focus on next, but I'm not sure they have anything that really interests me, so the next few months may well just be spent clearing a bit of my backlog.

Edit: or painting Forgeworld's glorious new Constantin Valdor mini. Going to flip a coin and decide whether to get it or not

The rat is looking really good mate, as for the idoneth keep guys I think they look silly as gaming minis because they're going to never be in water but you could make some nice display pieces with them, but I'm in the same boat, not overly interested with thsm

Thanks guys. Little bit more done. Need to glaze over some improved highlights and get some line highlights on there.

I've decided to get the Valdor mini. It's a very busy model but one that should be a joy to paint.

Cheers team! I'm liking these purple glazes, they introduce contrast while maintaining a quite flat overall tone. If you look at the skin in black and white there is very little difference between the highlights and shadows. I'm going to glaze back over the broad surfaces with a slight highlight to improve this a bit but I don't want to push it far. Anyway, I had a break from the skin today and worked on the loincloth.

The idea that the cloth has faded over time, but I'm not overjoyed with it. Might dirty the whole thing up.

I like the cloth colour but for the effect you want I think using your fade colour as the highlight for the bluish part and maybe have it coming from the sides too? Glazing the cream colour you have on the blue highlights should desaturate them a bit and help it look like the light is showing the start of fading there too. I do like the colour it has though even if it's an accident :p

Glazing back over the broad surfaces is something I feel would give you the effect. Basically I agree with you foxy.;) Always nag with dirtying it up as it is a shaven and I’ll be doing a abs after dinner on how to weather , bloody cloth -or whichever one desires as it’s done the same way for Both!!!;) So hang tight don’t touch it until I post this very brief and very practical way of weathering cloth . It might be what your looking for and it might not.but wait until I put it up then you can decide. Btw the entire model and the part you’ve painted so far are very attractive and yielding some great results so far def see this one through-you love these huge kits and honestly your good at them.what I might do would be add a bit of edge highlighting of the beige up about a 1.5 cm on each side then have the beige bleeding into some dirty weathered tip .the OSL is beutiful as well!!!you def have a niche in these big beutiful models.

Thanks guys.

Sicks, you’re right about needing the faded colour on more of the cloth. I’ll incorporate it around some of the edges where it should naturally be more worn and exposed. The photo makes the colour look a lot more cream than it actually is, it’s really more grey.

BaM, the SBS is awesome buddy but not quite what I had in mind. I will be pinching it for some of my ][ retinue though!
The penchant (awesome word) for large models is something I’m trying to steer away from. They just take too long for my easily distracted mind.

I really appreciate all the help though everyone. This place keeps me in the hobby
