Foxtail's Ongoing Painting Journey

The contemptor has been thoroughly kicking my ass of late. The mold is really rough and I’ve been getting very frustrated with it. Since it’s a ~£60 model, and should be quite cool when finished, it’s avoided being thrown at a wall but has been relegated to my ever expanding ‘to finish’ box.

Since I’m naive and have eyes bigger than my belly, I decided the best way to get over it was to buy a large plastic kit to chip away at.
Meet Dave:

Just the colours blocked in and a shade on him so far. There’s some light conversion work on the head, and the glaive has turned into a short sword. Dave’s base has had a bit of work as well.

Some of the cobblestones are plasticard, otherwise are greenstuff. My liquid greenstuff pot is pretty badly dried up, but if you mash a load up with some water and apply it thinly it leaves a very slightly textured surface, which works great for stone. The blank bits of the base will have dirt applied and the large round hole will be getting a drain grate as soon as I work out how to make one.

Horticulous has some minor changes, but nothing worth showing yet.

Sorry to hear about the Dreadnought and I have had to do that with a project I started a while back which can be frustrating but if it ultimately leads to a better painted mini then I'd say the time off is well worth it. With that said, you have some great back-up projects up your sleeve. This guy is a pretty cool looking rat and you always do a bang up job on the big models so I have high expectations and look forward to seeing how Dave turns out! Just don't let those Inquisitors sit too long :)

Cheers guys. Kuribo, the beastman part of the retinue has been eying me up recently, he might be coming soon.

Little bit more progress on the base tonight. Looks rough but should clean up nicely. Should...

I like where the giant rat fiend is going. The base looks very nice. Looking forward to more updates on this, Fox.

Wow the sword conversion speaks of some amazing conversion skills as does the head convert. You guys who do this green stuff shite I have one ? HOW THE F@@‘@ do you do it so seemless!! I’m a scared to even try shite like this. I’ll just sit back and watch the pros do it...

Thanks a lot guys! BaM, the sword was just a simply snip of the glaive fortunately. I hate sculpting with a passion, really no good at anything past the basics.

Just a quick update of tonight’s work.

Sewer grate done!

There is a horrible seam line halfway down his mouth I missed. Really bugging me now.

Carefully dap in some 'ardcoat in the seem, might take a few layers but it will sort it out, you can try and coax it in to the gap if you accidentally get some either side of it (I'd use a clean brush to avoid accidentally putting more on) had to do it several times myself

He's off to a good start, the eye is great!

The painting is on its way to fantastic- love the face, hand and arm. And I second that ardcoat trick.. put a dab on a pallets or dish -hairdryer it for 5-6 seconds - it will thicken and then use as spackle Works like thy charm!!!

Thanks guys, but it’s more of a step than a gap. It would have been easy to carve to shape early on, but it’d be a nightmare now so it’s staying. That ardcoat trick is going in the repertoire though.

Last update for tonight. To be, or not to be...

I’ve been reading up on skaven since it’s never been a faction I really knew any lore about. They actually interest me quite a lot, so I may do some more rats in future.

I thought finding mold issues was my super power, so you have done a great job painting this as I still can't see a problem with the mouth..

Thanks all, the encouragement keeps me going!

Only minor updates today. The base has been primed, shaded black and drybrushed white in my weird way of underpainting bases. This should show through subtlety when the other colours get airbrushed on.

I caugh sight of some Total War concept art of a verminlord that has inspired me a little. I’ve decided to incorporate the green front horns (only part finished) and the body will be getting some subtle purple glazes.

Good stuff you're pumping out, Fox! Lots of diverse models you're working on, and I'm enjoying them all. :D

Nice one fox... that head is looking epic as far, coming along really nice... I’ve never had any desire to paint skaven etc, but they look like heaps of fun to paint.
