Marauder Bust *Complete*

I'm calling it done. Maybe a slight glaze of beige or light sand over the silver grey of the horns, but I'm comfortable with where this sits.

Currently working on the plinth, just simple black, and I'll add a nameplate to it. Just have to find that tutorial that was posted on how to make nameplates.

Waiting on a number of new busts I ordered from Polaris and Broken Toad before working on the next one.

Comments and criticism welcome as always.

Nice. The only thing that seems a bit off is the transitions to white on the horns. May want to check some real horns and tweak them a little. I am good with everything else.

Oh I like that. Great muted colours I think help with the overall result.

Thanks Rob. Much appreciated.

Hi KruleBear. I can see what you mean about the transitions. I think it is primarily from the white to the middle brown colour. I'll ad a few more brush streaks and see if I can tone it down a bit. Thanks for the suggestion

Upcoming Works

Been a little while since my last post, but I have been waiting on my next project.

I really enjoyed the Marauder bust and have been itching to do some more. I recently purchased four busts from Polaris Miniatures as well as the Wonderland mini bust set from Broken Toad.

I'll post some pics in the next day or two, but have already begun working on one of the Polaris busts, entitled "I shall fear no evil".

Hoping to improve my painting of skin tones and blendings.

Cheers

Very grand work on that bust, the face came into fruition perfectly and can be seen very quite adequately from behind the mask.great job.

Cheers Bam. I recall seeing a tutorial here about making name plates for plinths (I think Sprocket did it?), but no luck so far in my search. Otherwise I have it based up pretty well. Dont want to gallery it until I get the name plate done.

Thanks for all the feedback while it was in progess. It really helped.

I shall fear no evil... Update #1

As promised, here is my first update for my next bust.

View attachment 54045

it is entitled, "I shall fear no evil" from Polaris Minor. I felt that this bust had a lot of character, as well as some creepiness to it.

I've primed the bust, base coated the skin, and started working on the eyes. Only had enough time for the pupils and iris. The shading around the eyes is a little rough, but I hope to tidy that up a bit.

Comments And criticism welcomed.

Cheers

... and I just realized that I used the wrong brown for around the eyes. That being said, it kind of helps to given a sunken, tired eye effect. Any tips to help tie this in to the rest of the facial shading would be appreciated.

Cheers

Distraction.

So I messed up on the bust above. I'll have to strip it and start over. It's a bit of a blow to the ego as I thought I was getting much better. Ah well.

To re baseline, I thought I'd work on this quick figure. It's another oldie from Ensign Miniatures I believe.

Its a Black Watch Highlander Officer, Formal Mess Dress. Painting it up as a gift for my uncle.

Comments welcome as always.

Happy New Years to all!

Almost Perftec! Aw, crap.
it happens. I stripped my steam punk princess bust during the process. no big deal. It'll be easier the second time around. And maybe you'll come up with a new approach too :)

Cheers Zab. I recently moved and reorganized my painting area. I've got more than a few started and unfinished projects so I'm going to try and play a little catch up.

A shame about your bust; it was looking good from your last pic. Oh well, put it behind you and move forward. The tartan pattern on the kilt is looking nice. I'm sure your uncle is going to love the gift.

Thanks Octavian. I've yet to strip it, but the shading i have done is all wrong. I may give it one more go, but I think its easier for me to start with a blank slate. The Highlander is still very much a WIP, I think I'll darken the shadows a bit more in the jacket, highlight the lapels, and the socks are also a red and black tartan so I've much more to do, but I knocked this off in a few hours so far. It's more the best sculpt, but its an easy paint.

Thanks for weighing in. Much appreciated.

Paint Inquiry

Hi All,

Quick search for advice. Can anyone recommend to me which Vallejo skin tones they use for painting flesh? At the moment I am using, Beige Red as a base with Mahogany Brown, BR +MB mix for shadows, and Flat Flesh, Basic Skintone, and Mixes with BR for highlights.

I'm looking for something with a subtler gradient to it. Ideally I'd like to stick to Vallejo as it is easiest for me to obtain.

Cheers
