Ok here\'s pics of the growing AT-AT herd. I\'ll be modifying these a bit but wanted to get the models together so there was at least some indication of progress before I spent mad amounts of time in the conversion. The legs are a giant pain to pose correctly but other than that I gotta say it\'s one of the best snap together model kits I\'ve ever worked with, and on top of that everything comes prepainted. I\'ll be redoing the paint job after I convert them but it\'s nice to look at a model that looks complete for the time being.

Not the full sized herd as I have a 2nd giant AT-AT and then 3 small one that are about half the size of the medium one, but I don\'t think I\'ll be using them as they aren\'t very imposing, and the titan sized AT-ATs are much cooler. I shoudl have included the second giant AT-AT but was feeling lazy and didn\'t want to go digging through the garage to get it.

I\'m debating about getting a 3rd one of these models as I really like the detail level, and in the movie the regular AT-ATs are deployed in groups of 3 if memory serves.

If you look closely you can see the tiny stormtrooper marine down by the feet, I love how giant these are. :)

Had a crazy busy weekend with tons of extra hours at work, but very little room for modeling. Would have liked to get more done, but I was able to tackle a couple new models.

Reworked the rider\'s arm and handle bars on the speederbike, now his arms are bent at the elbow eliminating the straight arm hog/chopper riding posistion he had going on previously. Now he looks like he\'s leaning into the thrust much more and I think it probably imparts a bit more feel for the intended speed of the model\'s look. The handle bars were also moved further back as his reach is a bit shorter now.

I also have 3 more bikes well underway it\'ll probably take me an hour tops to finish the steering veins and rear of the bikes. However the riders do take a while as there\'s a fair amount of cutting & reposistioning to make everything fit.

Then I started on some Jawas, these were built off of skaven plague monks, dark angel hoods, guard and marine parts. Lots of chopping and pinning to give them a bit more upright of posture, and healthy amounts of scraping to smooth down the robes. I have a 3rd jawa body in progress but no pics of him yet, picked up a box of the skaven today as I only had 3 models, now I\'ll have ample extras. Next project after the Imperial list? Maybe a Jawa & Tuskan army? ;)

Jawa 1 was the first model and I think he captures the look pretty spot on, Jawa 2 has a multimelta cobbled together from discarded junk, ala Jawa style. Felt that since he has a heavy weapon he might be best served as looking a bit beefier than his squad mates so I gave him the shoulder pad armor. Not 100% sure if I like it or not, I may remove it but I\'m going to wait until I have more of the squad done before making the call to keep the pads or not. Jawa 2 needs a bit of mold scraping and I still need to carve his feet down to match jawa 1.

These guys will be played as servitors for my techmarine. I\'ve been giving a lot of thought and not sure how to pull off jawa spider droid combo as a techmarine so I may skip that and use a Rodian (greedo\'s alien race) which would be patterned after the Rodian Heavy Guardian in force unleashed game so he\'d have really bulky armor and a big mini gun looking thing for his conversion beamer.

The bikes are coming along nicely cant wait to see more.
The Jawas not a huge fan but i like what you have done with them and can\'t wait to see your Rodian techmarine :D, now just one thing i thought the Imperials didn\'t like working with any one other than humans? Or is this army pre alienism (Alien Racism).

The star wars empire makes use of alien races whenever it suits their needs. Plenty of sith have come from alien races and Vader hires out several alien bounty hunters.

As for the 40k Imperium they are typically human only, however rogue inquistors have worked with xenos/alien races as well as chaos elements provide they can be controlled. Then they are destroyed when they are no longer useful to the Inquistor. Vader would easily fill the role of a rogue Inqusitor.

Additionally jawas are pretty close to watchers in the dark, the little hooded mech servants that are all over the place with the dark angels & inqusitors. They could just be midget androids instead of aliens.

I am sure it is obvious by now but Bruno made his AT-AT from card stock, earth shaker cannon, tau bits, and that land speeder model for the space marines (I forgot what it is called, I think it is land speeder).

EDIT: I know that this does not fit the time frame for your chosen army but you should convert some yuuzhan vong for your army.

You could even use the older metal saurus warriors as noghri if you really wanted to :D

Interesting, I hadn\'t heard of them before and did a search on wookiepedia for them, pretty cool stuff. I\'m not overly familar with the stuff that happens after the original triology (galactic civil war period). I read the rogue squadron series and part of jedi academy but that was about it.

I think I may have to start reading some of the novels. As I\'m having a blast working on these models doing another period is definately a consideration. There\'s a lot of cool options for clone wars era but several people have already done those.

Stuff from the jedi academy might also be a greta theme as well since I haven\'t seen any coverted armies set in that period yet.

I really like how the jawas have turned out, so I decided I will be putting my stormlord kit to good use, and be using it a frame for a sandcrawler which will stand in as a stormlord for apoc.

If you want a series to read, check out the Heir to the empire series it will blow your socks clean off. :D I loved that series.

Just wondering if your going to make the other bounty hunters Vader hires to track down Han Solo?

On a seperate note the jedi academy series with Kip Duran and Admiral Daala was also wicked, but Grand Admiral Thrawn will remain my favourite evil imperial.

I\'ll be doing a couple of the bounty hunters, I\'ll be doing IG-88 for sure as I have a bunch of necron pieces that need to be put to good use.

I picked up a set of empire wizards to experiment with and see if it\'d work for sandpeople/tuskens. I was looking over the parts this morning and I realized that they\'d be a perfect fit for the Emperor, not sure why I didn\'t make that connection before, doh! I like the power armor version but it\'s not all that accurate of a portrayal of the presence he projects in the movies, so I figured I\'d give him another shot and do a more fitting miniature. I did some scraping and refitting of pieces so that the ams were opened outwards a bit more and scraped off the wizardy details on the cloak.

He\'s still going to need a bunch of greenstuff work as there\'s some pretty large gaps, but the rough-in works quite well IMO. I think I need to add a bolt pistol to his waist or maybe a lightsaber hilt. Alternately I could replace the right hand with a hand holding a lightsaber/powersword, I\'m going to think it over a bit. I\'d really like to give him some force lightning but no idea how to go about modeling it, I may just try doing directional lighting with a glowing hand.

No special tech, I just use a hobby knife. I try and use a new blade whenever I can for scraping, a dull one can leave marks as the blade is often uneven from wear. I also try and do the work on the parts before they are on the model, that way I can get at the part better than if it\'s attached.

Before scraping I try and cutting away any surface details until it\'s just about flush/level with the plastic, that way when I do start scraping it isn\'t removing excess material from areas around/surrounding the detail. For removing large parts I use a pair of clippers then carefully cut away any material the cliipers didn\'t take off.

If you don\'t cut off the detail and instead start scraping the part as is then you will remove a lot of the other surface areas around it while you are scraping. That can make it look pitted or uneven.

I rarely ever use a file on the visable surface, as it usually leaves a pretty rough texture, I just use the straight part of the blade and go very carefully and only remove a very thin shave at a time. It helps if you use longer strokes up and down the whole length of the part when you can, if you use short strokes it can create low spots or become uneven.

When you are doing it right the plastic will come of in tiny curls that\'s like a very thin piece of paper. (I hold the blade at a 90 degree angle to the surface whenever possible) sometimes I use just the tip to carefully scratch away at very small parts, you just have to use a tiny amount of pressure and lots of paitience as you will need to go nice and slow.

On parts that aren\'t visable I use files clippers or a dremml tool depending on how much material there is and don\'t have to worry about tool marks as it won\'t be visable.

The testors brand superfine wet/dry sand paper works well (the red sheet) I tend not to use them very often, usually the only time is if I drip glue on an area that\'s proving very hard to scrape off.

(I use krazy glue brand rather than plastic glue, as it can come back apart and doesn\'t cause the plastic to melt or chemically bond like normal plastic glue does)

I\'ve sliced myself countless times over the years when I was trying to rush something as I\'m often cutting/scraping towards my fingers. Just be careful and work with the minimum pressure possible it\'ll help you remove plastic in a much finer amount and if the blade does nick you it\'ll bleed a lot less than if you\'re jamming down on it and it gets you with a lot of force.

You can always correct not scraping away enough by going back over the area, if you rush it and remove too much you\'re out of luck and have to repair everything with greenstuff.

I also have a jewelry saw for making fine cuts on hands and arms ect, much better than the \"bone saw\" that GW sells. They sell for around $10 on ebay.

Paitience and lots of carefull light scrapes with the knife.

For the lightning on V.2 of Palpatine (Which is kick @ss) why not get some thin copper wire and attach to the fingers and you could make patterns and have the wire intertwining(?). Either way i think your doing a magnificent job on these guys. Cant wait to see more.

EDIT: What model is the head from, aswell as the hands and the brass eagle on his chest?

Oh and give him a lightsaber hilt on his belt a blaster is not fitting for the Sith lord

The base model is the empire wizard, the head is from the raven wing sprue, there\'s also 2 differant hooded heads in the dark angels veteran box. One has a head that is yelling, and the other has a power armor helmet on under the hood. You can find them all pretty cheap through bits sellers.

(I used the same heads for the jawas, but removed the faces with a dremmel tool)

The emperor\'s right hand is from the old mordheim sprue which I\'m pretty sure is the same as the empire militia sprue, as the mordheim box was just stuff that was repackaged from the skaven and empire boxes. The hand is for a guy with a bow and arrow.

The brass eagle is from the forge world etched brass sheet.

I sat down to resume work on the sandcrawler but a part in the box grabbed my attention and I ended up with a new model. He\'s still in the rough and needs more work but I liking R-2 so far. :)

He\'s on a 40mm terminator base so he\'s definately much larger than he is in the movie, but oh well not everything scales perfectly. The overall image is more important.
