40k Marines - Star Wars Themed

Jango and Boba use a bunch of differant parts, scout marine legs, cadian torso that I touched up around the belt, tau and cadian arms (boba has a tau arm fitted with a scout hand, jango has cadian arms) The helmets were carved down from the cone faced \"beaky\" marine heads.

I reworked Jango since the pic was posted, he now has cadian arms with scout hands (replacing the marine arms), also the plasma pistols were replaced with more slender shuriken pistols. I still need to do some filking on them so they don\'t look quite so eldar like.

Revised Jango:

looking sweet!! I think the new pistols work better, as they look more like the las-pistols used in the film.

Just a random thought, but you could give the bounty hunter with the sniper rifle the rules for Scout Master Telion.

A huge box arrived today which finally answered my question of just how BIG is the big daddy AT-AT?

\"Don\'t worry little friend, one day you\'ll grow up to be big and strong like me.\"

His cannon fell off during shipping but it\'ll be fixed, I\'m going start start taking measurements and start drawing up plans for converting the superheavy AT-AT. A second AT-AT is on the way to provide the extra legs and parts to extend the torso.

Also the AT-AT apparently scares the crap out of my dog as he won\'t go near it and hid behind the couch when I set it down on the floor. LOL

man this is gonna be one awesome army once its done. Love the chicken walkers. And I must say that walker will be intimidating once you get it all fixed up.

OMFG  that is unbelievable.

Where did you get that from? Oh and the heads for the Stormtroopers and Vader?

I am really liking your enthusiasm for this project cant wait to see it completed.

The AT-AT is the toy from their action figures line, they made it way back in 1982 and again in 97 for the power of the force series, originally they sold for about $150. It\'s been out of production for quite a while, but you can still find them at garage sales and on ebay. I found this one for about $60, I\'ll have to do quite a bit of work on it but I think is much better than paying $400+ for a forge world titan model.

The heads are from the star wars miniatures game by wizards. I used dark trooper heads as the standard stormtroopers are too small.

I think the landraider would be much too wide to be on sentinel legs, the legs aren\'t very thick or long and the reverse knee chicken type leg doesn\'t fit the look. AT-AT\'s look like elephants due to their massive legs.

Bruno Rizzo made this one all from 40k parts and it\'s a bit more along the lines of something I\'d aim for. Not sure what all these parts are from but there\'s a landspeeder, part of a leman russ, some tau drones on the legs and the body might have been from a model kit, or just made out of styrene.

Thanks I was wondering what those were from, I\'m not very familar with chaos bits.

Looking at it a bit more closely, the leg above the knee looks like it was probably scratch built as it doesn\'t match the defiler leg. But from the knee joint down it\'s defiantely a defiler leg. (I\'m wondering if he mixed a model kit torso and upper legs with the other 40k parts).

I\'m trying to decide on what course to take with the regular sized AT-ATs, using his idea as a base I could opt for using more GW parts. It\'d be much more expensive but it\'d probably ease the retentives bitching about legality at the bunker.

Or I can use the model kit that I put bits on, but it\'d have far fewer GW parts (around 25-35%), mostly doors, imperial eagles and weapons, where the other version kit based from GW parts is probably around 75% GW stuff.

Pricewise the GW option will cost a landspeeder and defiler, possibly a leman russ and landraider meaning the model coul run upwards to $150-200 easily.

The Model kit would cost me just over $50 and then whatever bits I don\'t already have layinga round.

The main consideration is how much grief I\'ll get from not having enough GW parts to use at the bunker and what looks best on the table.

The bunker guys may not even care about the GW bits but hard to say, and I\'m not bringing in or discussing the army there until it\'s done. That way when it is done and finally unveiled I get the maximum wow factor.

I\'m somewhat stuck on my AT-AT options, there 3 distinct sizes I can work with.

The largest is the AT-HE made from the toy, this would fill the role of an emperor. t(he reason I\'m thinking emperor over warlord is the troop capacity)

The second largest AT-AT option 1 - could be used as a warhound, at 12 inches (14 long) it\'s slightly taller than the warhound and much longer.

The smallest AT-At option 2 - could serve possibly as a landraider? It\'s 8 inches tall (9 long) so it\'s a bit longer than a raider but with the height it\'d be hard to represent the access points and assault ramp unless I figure out a way to fudge it.

Here\'s a pic of all the various options set to the same scale, the silouettes are the AT-St walker (treated as a dread) Landraider and a marine.

Would using a smaller AT-At as an oversized landraider look particuarly out of place? Is it simply odd?

(The scale of the AT-ATs from the movies would be the warhound sized one. )

Inspiration stuff:

The model below (by Bruno Rizzo) looks to be built off the 8 inch model kit, and mixes in a good amount of GW bits. Not sure what he plays it as, but it does look fairly large on the table when it\'s the only AT-AT on the table. But I think if I place one of the larger scale version down around it it suddenly starts feeling more like a pygmy AT-AT (AT-SE aka AT-ShortEdition ;) )

The thing I like about Rizzo\'s version is the GW parts, I\'m not sure how well the models based on stock star wars kits would be recieved by the GW bunker staff. I know that Rizzo\'s version would have little to no problem as there\'s a ton of GW parts forming the majority of the piece. But I don\'t know if that\'s something I should even worry about. The landspeeder head and add on parts make it look distinctly 40k, and I like the model, but I\'m a bit conflicted on how well it represents the AT-AT\'s distinctness.

And alongside his guard army:

I hadn\'t seen these until I was well underway with my project. I wish I\'d seen these before I started my army as I may have gone with guard instead, but having marines will give it it\'s own unique flavor even when held up to his stuff.

Nice. Oh, and I think the upper part of the feet are Leman Russ wheels, could be the outer chimera wheels as well tho, they\'re pretty similar.

And about the bunker guys, if they have the same mentality as the guys over at ours there shouldn\'t be much complaints about it other than the \"Eek, you have desecrated star wars models!\" Other than that i believe you\'ll drown in the amount of Ooh\'s and Aah\'s and drooly stares

Does the guy who built the all guard SW themed army still post here? I wanna see close ups of his Vader and Palace guard.

Any progress so far dude?

The landraider AT-AT is definately interesting, and a nice conversion. A bit on the stubby side, but looks good.

After a lot of thought over the past couple days I think that I\'m going to stick to keeping the AT-ATs at titan level as they are huge and making a smaller scale AT-AT model seems to take away from some of the sheer intimidation and terror they are supposed to generate. (at least IMO)

So for ground craft I\'ll be making some hover tanks like the TX-130:
IFT-T.jpg

Or alternately a vehicle based on a massively scaled down juggernaught:

I can also put together some light skimmers in place of a landspeeder.

I started working on the first scout speeder bike last night and should have it finished shortly, it\'s looking very goodso far. I\'d post work in progress pics but unfortunately the computer at work doesn\'t have a compatible memory card slot. :( I should have the pics up either late tonight or more likely monday afternoon.

Here\'s the 501st company banner I designed, I had posted it to my other WIP blog but forgot to post it here.

You know you have a crappy day coming when you are at work less than fifteen minutes and somebody decides to hit you with a metal chair (literally) just one of the many joys of working with crazy people at a rehab clinic. ???

That\'s how my 16 hour day started yesterday, then on top of it for the second time in a row I forgot my styrene at home, although I managed to remember all my bits. I am going to start stapling sheets of it to my work shirt so I can\'t leave it at home again. Fortunately my wrist didn\'t get broken although it hurt like heck and I got some modeling work done, the rest I finished up tonight as this time I remembered to bring in my plastic.

Here\'s this weekends shot of star wars love, the first scout speederbike.

40kscoutspeeder1.jpg

40kscoutspeeder3.jpg

The bike is done but the rider needs a lot more work, his arms need to be reposistioned and the handle bars moved. It doesn\'t look right with the arms extended straight and it blocks sight of the head. Straights arms are for hog choppers, he needs to look more like he\'s riding a crotch rocket sport bike. I\'m going to move the handle bars closer to the body and his arms will be changed so they are at a 90 degree bend at the elbow. (I\'m probably not keeping the shotgun)

His head will also be replaced with a scouttrooper helmet, this was just added for a test fit to see if the pose would work, the hole in his head is from having to hold it in place with a pin while it glued as the darn thing was next to impossible to hold.

The bike itself is pretty much done other than a bit of gap filling and I need to add a pair of control wires going down the steering collums. Outside of that the bike is good to go. The grenade launcher is magnetized so it can move or be replaced with the paired bolters.

A mini-juggernaut would probably just be built from styrene and spare odds and ends. It\'s not too complex just a boxy shape with wheels.

It\'d definately be a mini version as the actual Juggernaut dwarfs the AT-AT and can transport up to 300 troops at a time.
