Mother&Child.Fairies OOAK,original Sculpt

My sculptures are one-of-a-kind, lovingly designed from a mixture of polymer clays over wire armatures and of course, a little magic. No molds are ever used in their creation. They are made with special attention to details, such as fingernails/toenails, expressive eyes/faces, aesthetic colors, jewelry and whimsical nature. Some of my fairies will include hand-sculpted bases, mounted on stained, polyurethane coated display bases. Their wings are formed from gossamer material over wire, then glazed with a translucent shimmer. The wings are flexible and detachable for ease of shipping, with a style, shape and color to compliment each individual fairy. You may choose to permanently attach the wings with a drop of super-glue, as this will not affect your ability to pose the wings to your liking. Hair is of high quality mohair and/or, synthetic and will come in varying shades/hues and styles. It can be hand-curled, or long and flowing and it’s applied by individual locks. Sculptures and bases are sealed with matte finish for protection. All fairies are numbered, dated, signed by the artist and come with a Certificate of Authenticity. This fairy sculpture No.101 entitled, ‘Mother& Child’ *Bethel& Obed* are seated on a hand-sculpted mushroom, which is mounted on a 4” x 4” decorative, finished wood base. The entire piece w/base measures 8” high by 4” wide. Little Obed is so new, that his wings remain unfurled. Bethel (if she were standing, measures 6-1/2”) has blonde hair/bright green eyes, painted lips, cheeks and nails. She wears a crown of peridots with a matching emerald-cut ring. Her gossamer wings have a sparkling, translucent golden-glaze. The base has been finished with painted/sculpted rocks, leaf litter, medium green mix and light green static grass. I like the big green eyes. She does look content. Maybe because her little one is finally asleep.:)

I think you have done a delightful job of capturing a mother serene and content with her motherhood. When I first saw this piece, it took me back to those days not so long ago when my daughter was truly a baby, and I remembered what it felt like to hold her tiny little body close and just FEEL. Feel her little head on my shoulder, feel like I was protecting her, feel the trust she had in me to be able to sleep in my arms. And anything that can elicit that type of strong response in me is damn well done! That being said, to the technical part. You have managed to maintain a believable bone structure, make her look natural, and yet change her body up just enough to make her feel like a fairy, rather that just a human with wings. As to the baby himself, I think everyone should keep in mind that not only is he not much bigger than a fifty-cent piece, but that newborns are rarely, if ever, truly beautiful (although as parents, we think they are the most beautiful thing we've ever seen :) ). I think his wrinkly little newborn body has been captured quite accurately, and I love the pose, with his legs tucked up underneath, and his arm holding his mother even in the depths of sleep. The mushroom is extremely well done too, the colors chosen and method of painting makes it look like it was just plucked off of a forest floor. Excellent job, and I can't wait to see more of your original fairies!
