Whats your experience with selfinflicted injury while practice your hobby

My brother, who for some reason used to model late at night while wearing very little, once superglued his..... um....... \'force commander\'...... to his upper thigh with an ill directed blob of superglue.:duh:

Don\'t tell him I told you!

remembered another - put a mini on a lightbulb to dry it quicker but the change in temeperature made the bulb shatter in my face. nearly crapped myself. i was ok - a few small cut on my hand. also shorted myself on the filament when i tried to remove the bulb - i had forgotten that i hadn\'t turned it off - d\'oh!

self inflicted injury ...

well, i almost always paint with a glass of water (it forces me to take a break when my oh so delicate bladder needs to rain havoc on those oh so little ants in my toilet lol ) and there\'s this once i was so tired that i dipped my paintbrush into the wrong container.
Unknowingly, i drank. I only realised my folly when i heeded nature\'s call and was washing my glass and realised that it\'s tainted red.

Maybe there\'s why my nose is so pinkish.

Er...does that count?

Okie, okie, it\'s not so funny. Stop throwing your cage at me, freakinacage (oh...congrrrats on your 100th postings! :) ) and you guys, keep your shrapnel knives...ok, here\'s a joke.

Tom: Why are you so gloomy, Dick?
Dick: I lost my $100...
Tom: But I thought your brother found it?
Dick: Yes, but now I lost my brother...

Mu Ha Ha Ha...Ha??

Ah, other people getting wounded while you stand helpless by their side.
I work in a Toystore, they also sell models and modelling equipment (you know, military plastic kits and such). I\'m working on a R/C car and one of the girls asks if she can borrow a scalpel. \"Sure\" I say: \"but watch out it\'s sharp\". I didn\'t even finish that sentence and she had already cut herself in her pretty fingers. Shame...... she\'ll die alone and ugly (ok so that ugly bit was exagerated, but it was a deep cut :D)

I may have you all beat...

...assuming that working on building a second display case for my miniatures counts as \"hobby-related\" injury:

When cutting narrow strips of wood for the door of a recessed cabinet, I accidentally ran my thumb straight into the blade of my table saw, nearly cutting it off. (Some of you may recall me mentioning this months ago.) It\'s doing much better now, but will always be a bit tender for the experience.

Hmm, lets see - chemical burns from paint thinner, model cement, and the ever popular model cement/paint thinner Methyl Ethyl Ketone - set my self on fire with a dremel one time working on a steel support for a diorama - embedded plastic in my skin with the same dremel while working on a tank model - cut the tip off of at least three fingers (not at the same time) while cutting various items from sprue or removing flash from minis - deep cuts on the balls of both thumbs from removing flash and mold lines - various punctures and gouges from weapons on minis - all and all this hobby is more dangerous than one of my others - black powder rifle shooting lol

Comparatively I\'m safe :)

Well, there are some quite serious injuries here.

After I cut my thumb (not serious enough to warrant a visit to casualty but hurt like mad and I ended up holding it still all day) cutting an unwanted piece of plastic off a plastic horse (that incident provided practical evidence that \'grandmothers\' are right when they say never cut towards yourself / thumb hehe) I am VERY safety concious :)

The medical photgraphs for the \"external bleeding section\" on the First Aid at Work course video (I sat the first aid course for work) were enough to make me take extra care when around sharp objects...... :-O Here is an apology if anyone is squeemish here :)

Be safe people!!!

Self infliction on purpose?

How about injuring oneself intentionally? Does that count? I\'ll explain.

It was several years ago I had finished a particular miniature (I can\'t remember which one it was, thankfully) I went to my balcony to apply the usual coat of matte sealer. I keep all of my spray cans together within reach of my balcony door. Dumb ass mistake. I applied the first layer and waited for that to dry. I put the can back. I reached for the can to apply the second layer without looking to see if I had the correct can and picked up the white primer instead. You know what happened next. When I realised what I had done, I flew into a blind rage and hurled the mini off of my balcony. I went back inside and proceeded to punch the wall repeatedly shredding the skin on my knuckles.

Not too mature a reaction. I know it. A true story. Can anyone top that level of stupidity?

More Dumb A** moves

Let\'s see.

I sheared off the end of my middle finger on my left hand. That taught me to always cut towards my hand but to keep the sharp part of the blade resting on my thumb. No cuts since.

I burned myself with cyanoacrilate glue. I spilled a bunch on my hand then, to avoid spilling any on my pants, sprayed accelerant on it. MAN does that reaction get hot.

I burned my hands once putting out a fire. You see I have a HUGE ork stompa with built in lights and stereo system. While I was gluing on some steel wool, for smoke effects, I accidentally touched the end of a nine volt battery to the steel wool. It ignited and there I was in my basement surrounded by spray cans, glues, accelerants etc. so I out it out wth my hands. Ouch.

Finally I believe I am slowly poisoning myself with Future Floor Wax.:|~

More

Hey, now that I think some more about it... Didn\'t one of GW\'s sculptors blow his hand off in an historical reenactment?

Funny, I was just mentioning that bit of trivia to Zaphod the other day. It turns out that it was one of the Perry Twins (right now don\'t remember if it was Alan or Michael), who was loading one of those cannons and then the charge went off, badly burning his hand, wich had to be amputated.

I\'m proud of the way we handle ourselves

I know I mentioned claims before (jokingly) and if we could sue anybody (more jokingly!)...but do you actually know of any over-protective Mother who has gone through legal procedures after her little Jonny stuck glue in his eye and a miniature up his nose? It\'ll be interesting to know how people justify making a claim instead of facing their own stupidity with a brave face lol

I really think that most people in painting/converting/sculpting/terrain-making are pretty grown-up in attitude; who would you blame for cutting your finger...?

a) Myself
b) The people who the blade soooo sharp
c) A deity

By the way, I glued my finger to a base again yesterday! :duh:

I\'m known to have one accident a day...if I don\'t the world is going to end... Last month I was cleaning up some plastic figs and for some reason let go of the scalpel, which fell blade down right into my left thigh! Not that painfull at first, but it took ages to heal up. I should have gone to get it stiched, but I was too busy being a big girl...what am I like...

By the way, it was Michael Perry who had his arm blown off. i\'ve got a lot of respect for that guy, continuing his work and not let only having one arm set him back...he\'s got a video tape of the accident as well...never seen it though...

is it just me ...

or do i get the feeling that we mini-men and mini-women are truthfully, sincerely and most unmistakeably ....

A CLUMSY LOT!! lol

I mean, i was to several forums that deal with either hazardous chemicals and sometimes dangerous manuveurs (Eg. Photography and Blading/inline skating) but seldom do i see strange happenings as what I read here.

Maybe it is the insidious fume from the paints or the hynoptic charm of those naked minis or the deranged mind of us people (I mean who else will pay $20 bucks for a piece of metal!!) that led us to make these incredilous and hilarious mistakes!

PS: Reverend, you typing with one hand?? ;):D
