Well this year I\'d like to suggest that we all bring food and arrange to sit and nosh somewhere within the immediate locality of the NEC (Rain notwithstanding).
Last years trek over to the hotel was quite a distance, and their prices bleeding expensive (ok extortionate!).

While it was great to meet everyone last year (and previous years) I\'m beginning to feel that going outside of the Gamesday and sitting in a Bar is making us miss seeing some of the miniatures going into Golden Deamon. Beside which there were several people who didn\'t come over to the Hotel and missed out on conversations and I feel as if we may have exluded them without intent.

@Squig Hunter: Please allow that there are \"Objectionable Brats\" everywhere. Most of the problems stem from a few who\'s social skills are not as developed. These are the ones who unfortuntley stick out from the rest.
Oh and as to it being always kids, no there are several Adults as well who could do with lessons in Hygeine.
As to them stealing, as Generulpoleaxe will confirm, My friend and I have caught half a dozen from our local store alone. The first one we caught had over £90 of blister packs in his pockets and rucksack.

Oh and Squig Hunter congratulations for having the courage to speak out!

how did you catch the people stealing??

Just a little info from the GW forums about this years GD for those that are interested.

More Plasma screens sounds good, they were a nice touch last year for getting to see minis that made the finals, but didn\'t place.

Hi guys,

I thought it was about time I posted on here to give you some idea of the activities you can expect at Games Day this year.

tickets go on sale to the general public on the 1st July so you can pop into your local GW Hobby Centre or call 0115 914000 to purchase your ticket.

here\'s some of the things you can expect to see.

ART COMPETITION
subject is \'The Greenskin Menace\'; - in the Forum Hall.

SALES STAND
centre of the Forum Hall. Pre-release available from the new Orc & Goblins range, also the usual wide range of product available for our customers as well as an order point for those who have specific component needs on the day.

FORGEWORLD
One of the most popular areas of Games Day. They will have their extensive range of models available there and are also hoping to preview a new game they have been producing miniatures and rules for.

HOBBY ZONE
Themed around Warhammer.
Scenery area: make a choice of two types of generic scatter scenery.
Conversion competition: themed around an army General.
Make & Paint area: either put together your own miniatures that you purchased at Games Day or you can take part in Mike Mason\'s painting challenge. Mike\'s challenging customers to help him paint two armies, one Goblin, one Dwarf which we will then use at next years Games Day event.

THE ARENA HALL
50 participation games confirmed already and more coming in all the time.

THE DESIGN PROCESS
We\'re going to have a display area, with staff on hand to describe and discuss the key stages in the design process. This will include
- Art & Graphics
- Games Development
- Miniature Design
- GW Tooling
- The Hobby Department
- Eavy Metal
- Pre-Production
Studio are bringing around 40 staff to talk about their areas and give us an insight into how this process works.

Miniature Designers have asked if they can play a 3-up version of the new Warhammer Starter Set.

THE GCN AREA
An area in the Pavilion hall with challenge tables, scenery making experts, a 40K display board based on the Space Wolves and also advisors on the GCN and independent clubs in general.

GOLDEN DEMON
We plan to include even more Plasma Screens to show detailed images of some of the best entries so even more people can admire the fantastic work that is put into the entries each year.

PAVILION 2 HALL
Black Library, Sabertooth Games, Warhammer Historical and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay will all be there.
Displays and activities from no less than three computer companies that currently hold licences to produce games based on the Games Workshop games. So if it\'s Dawn of War, Warhammer Online or Warhammer: Mark of Chaos that you\'re interested in, they\'ll all be on show at Games Day.

Cheers

Matt

Okay I\'m a newbie when it comes to the GD so I\'ve got a couple of questions.

What are the stages of elimination for the painting contest?
When folk make the final cut how many minis usually get through to this stage?

Might be silly questions but i really have no idea. :p

Dark art, basically there is three rounds for each category.
1. enter you model in the correct category.

2. judges decide who what and how many go through to the finals. (depends on quality I think but might be wrong).

3. Finalists are then re-judged to decide who gets gold silve & bronze demons.

Note: all those that make it to the finals get a little certificate, and a pin/badge of a demon.

TICKET INFO
Just got off the phone yesterday to GW Direct Sales after enquiriing about where my model and ticket are as they were ordered last week and was told that they have run out of the model and are expecting more around the 17th July and that my model and ticket will be sent then
???

This doesn\'t bode well for the day itself as I heard back end of last year that the miniature was only going to be available when you buy your ticket and not on sale aat the GD...is this there way of stopping the SBay sales??? No way would I sell mine on EBay anyway but I would like the option of getting more than the one model.

From all of the minis in each category, the judges choose a selection to go through to the finals, from these they choose a gold, silver and bronze for each category (I\'ve also noticed that they tend to grade the finalists by putting them on different shelves in the finalist cases. i.e. the ones that are likely to get a statuette are placed higher in the cabinet etc. But thats just my impression, so I could be wrong).

There doesn\'t seem to be any specific percentages that they work to when choosing how many go through to the finals. I think its based more on the quality of the entries than choosing the top X%

Finally, from the golds of each category, an overall best in show is chosen to win the slayer sword

@WarGriffon, I wouldn\'t worry unduly, they had loads of the GD mini at GD last year. This happened a couple of years back with the chaos champion mini IIRC. They didn\'t send them out for a while, but everyone got one in the end. I don\'t think its an ebay thing, since they have been available at other GDs for the most of the year

Last year was the first time I went and I thoroughly enjoyed it, the company and meeting all the others from CMON made it an even better day :D

I only entered the demons last year to get in early/quicker and came away with one of my two entries having made the finals so I was very pleased :D :D

I think it has more or less been decided that we are picnicing ooutside on the lawn as a break and bringing our own food.

Does she have to be there all the time or just see me in and out. She will be sitting in the parents room all day She\'ll have to be around so that if anything happens she can be contacted. But no, she doesn\'t need to shadow you all the time. If she wants to meet up and decide if we are responsible ( lol ) enough to look after you that might give her some peace of mind.

Do you need an adult with you if your under 16 or something ? Yes! the bottom half of the gamesday ticket is a parental consent to attend form. which basically means that you (if under 16) can be allowed to attend with a responsible person who is over 16 that the parents have agreed to
