Really nice acquisitions, those brushes will last you a life time if you take care of them properly and that book is a game changer. That skin looks great!

Thanks! I started the book last night. It’s certainly very deep but it’s already made me think about a few things I wouldn’t have otherwise considered about painting minis.

Doesn't look like a failure to me...the basic principles are there I think you just need some more thin glaze pushed about between the transitions to blur the line a little. That and a little sharp edge highlighting will massive sharpen things up for you.

From my little experience in NMM it seems to be a case of regulating the density of paint to glaze medium and then learnign how to push the glaze about on the surface to cleanly blend between the transitions.

Definately don't see it as failure though....more like progress!

I think the same.
I would like to add that you have to ways of aproaching NMM, one is like super shiny (smooth and high contrast) as seen almost everywhere and the other is with texture, like battered metal similar to this one: http://www.coolminiornot.com/407780?browseid=5626317
On your mini (maybe as an accident, maybe intended, you are halfway both styles although maybe quite a bit more on the smooth side of things)

It looks really good man, as Maenas said there are several different ways you can do nmm. Your definately moving in the right direction with this technique.
I’ve only ever had a little play around with this so I’m no master (or even half decent for that matter), but what I’ve found is to be really effective you have to get smooth transitions in the tones, coupled with abrupt sharp transitions in areas... something I found useful was taking a photo of a chrome spanner (or wrench as you guys all them in the states) and editing it, really pushing out the contrast to virtually black and white. From this you can really grasp how the light reflects and work out where certain shades should be in the reflection. I think the hardest thing with nmm is working out where the light source is, and then making a consistent reflection on all the metal parts over the entire figure. To do it really well you have to be aware that you are not placing highlights as you would with zenthial highlighting, and need to think about how the light will reflect on certain shapes and surfaces.
anyways keep practicing as you are off to a really cracking start with this... and you should never think of anything as a failure, whit it is, is a learning curve ;)

Here is a good little read about understanding what makes a something shine and how classical painters tackled it. Nmm is not something new, painting in metalic paint is the new kid on block!!!

You're all so helpful and encouraging! Thank you, everyone!

I'm in the UK so spanner works for me:) Thanks for the advice.

No sign of my nude minis yet but I think Hasslefree are having some problems fulfilling orders after a Kickstarter they ran. Hopefully the minis will arrive this week.

I was a backer and mine got lost, they replaced it and all was well for me but there are people left that have been getting more and more annoyed for the last few months. I feel sorry for Dameon (the guy who runs the business side of things) he's basically doing it all himself now as they've lost staff members and he's juggling sorting out packages for the kickstarter and trying to keep the regular packages going. I used to know him 20 odd years ago so maybe I'm a bit biased but they're probably the only company I'd give some slack to for slower deliveries

Yeah, I ordered some minis from the kickstarter and I haven't received those either. I'm waiting patiently.

Theyre pretty good and you may be compensated for the delay if it wasn't your fault, I ended up getting a bonus mini and one of the sculpted bases for glory for free (I had ordered glory without the base) in the past I've got free minis when I've placed an order within 24hours before they started a sale too, considering they are a small company they have great customer service imo although it can be a longer wait than other companies

I ended up putting Goldar aside for a while. I was being too ambitious trying to paint NMM at my level of inexperience. I took up this hobby to have fun and I was stressing so much over the NMM that I wasn't having fun anymore. :(

The good news is that my Hasslefree stuff was despatched yesterday. :)

Hopefully, the minis will arrive tomorrow and I'll begin playing around with skin, faces, and hair.
