Coming along nicely! working with bigger scales helps a lot, it's easier to practice the different techniques because you have way more space than on regular 28/32 mm miniatures. At least it has helped me a lot to understand lots of things!
On the other hand you might be investing quite a lot more time on them, and they can become a bit overwhelming if you are not ready to face the challenge! So I would recommend having little other projects just in case....xD

Thanks, Maenas. Yes, the bigger scale is useful for learning but also a bit overwhelming and time-consuming, as you say. I think I'll add some 28mm minis into the mix. I need to practice at that small size if I'm ever going to get it right at that scale :)

Brush party! hahaha You'll notice the difference almost immediately for sure... my favourite is size 2.

I love my Series 7 #2 and #1 brushes. I also have a set of brokentoad mark 2 that also good, but I don't like them as much as the series 7s. I found it a huge step forward in reducing frustration by using quality brushes.

Thanks, guys. I’m really enjoying the new brushes! I’m back to practicing flesh and painting at a smaller scale again, using Goldar the Barbarian from Reaper.

I’ve ordered a handful of nude minis from Hasslefree. I reckon if I can concentrate solely on skin tones, hair, faces, and nothing else for the time it takes to paint them, I should improve at those things. That’s the theory anyway:p

Nice work... hey great idea to just concentrate on one skill as in skin tones, that’s really something I need to work on, it’s a difficult thing to get looking realistic...

Yup it's a great idea, some months ago I bought a Blood Bowl Norse team just for the same reasons xD

Great plan on the skin training, well worth working out a system that works for you.

Regarding the brushed I have some series 7 ones that I almost never use....got myself hooked on the Rosemary and Co series 22 size 0's....which worked out a few quid cheaper than the W&N ones.

Guess its just about what works for you.

That's pretty much what I did lol, I read I may have pigeon holed myself into painting pretty ladies but I enjoy it anyway lol, plenty of stuff I still struggle with but give me a scantily clad lady to paint and I'm good :D

For brushes I've also been using series 7's for a few years now, I've heard the quality has gone down though in recent times compared to before so I'm looking to try some different brands when I need to replace them (which will be soon) I've heard good things about broken toad MK2 and there's also a new company that seems to have got themselves endorsements from many award winning painters but those are going to Kickstarter and I doubt I can wait that long so I'll have to wait til next time

All I can say about these brushes is that they’re a hundred times better than the ones I was using, so I’m happy with them. Sicks, I guess there are worse things to be than an expert at painting scantily-clad women :)

I’ve painted all the metal parts on Goldar black in preparation for...NMM. I’ve decided I’m going to try it on this figure and there are quite a lot of metal parts so I should get ample opportunity to make mistakes.

Skin looks great! All my encouragement for giving a try on NMM! In fact I am sure getting better at NMM will result in getting better at TMM and viceversa.

Thanks, guys. I’ve had three failed attempts at the NMM so far. I’ll get the hang of it eventually, I’m sure. Going to try again tonight.

Meanwhile, my quest for learning continues with this book, which will hopefully teach me a thing or two.

Take a breath before diving into it! I also own it and it condenses lots of info in its few pages. It's not the usual "Hey look I painted this golden demon miniature!" it really teaches colour theory and will make you improve for sure, if not at first read, maybe the second or the third time you read it. Take your time! ;)
