I love hasslefree minis but they are tiny compared to most other companies, I have a load of them I bought way before I was ready for the size difference lol. The reaper but looks to be a bit bigger, lots of bare skin to practice on too, you don't necessarily have to go for a heroic scale type, some companies do the more realistic proportions but in a 35 or 40mm figure instead which doesn't sound like much but it makes all the difference, you could also venture even bigger with a 54mm or higher mini but then the expense starts building up which might be prohibitive on practice pieces

Anyways, Lenore came out pretty good especially for a first minister

Cool hes got some good definition. if you wanted to get rid of some of the casting imperfections make a milliput mixture diluted with water to a milk consistency and paint over the rough or pocked spots of the mini, you can sand it off once its dry with some 600g-1000g. Happy painting

Thanks, Endless. I’m enjoying Hot Lead so far. One thing I’ve learned is that watching someone else paint a mini makes it look easy. But it isn’t...for me anyway.

Hi sword, your off to a cracking start.... deffo looking good so far and colours look nicely bal card and not too thick. There are a lot of great peeps on here and you’ll learn tons from everyone.

btw I love that purple.. smooth as bro. Go keep the paint thin and smooth.. practice and listen to Bloodasmedium.. you’ll learn that rule soon enough. He will teach and guide everyone.. helps me out a ton.

It's off to a good start mate, don't worry yourself too much, when youre watching youtube or DVDs these people have painted for hundreds or thousands of hours so it's bound to look easy but pick any of the big names in mini painting and there's a good chance they all started the same, with below tabletop quality miniatures. There was a post on one of my painting groups on Facebook that illustrated illustrates it well where everyone posted the earliest mini they still have or have pictures of Vs what they were working on now and I can safely say everybody has gone through the same journey to get where they are, it's just some people have been on the journey longer

I don't consider this a mess in any sense of the word.
I found purple difficult to get right and my last mini's cloak was painted a couple of times before I was even close to satisfied.
You're good for just starting out and will paint Eldessa just fine. You're only going to get better.

Take your time, watch the DVD and gain from it.
Always, we critique ourselves harshly over our abilities and strive to do better. We do this because we know what we are capable of. I try to remember that, it is the challenge and journey that brings the enjoyment. The successes simply add to this enjoyment. They don't create it.
I look forward to seeing more of your work and how you progress. Myself and I'm sure others have found and will continue to find inspiration from your works as you better yourself and reach the level you hope to achieve. I really like the mini itself and think Eldessa and can't wait to see what you do with her.

dont worry about things starting off messy. as long as you have nicely diluted paints, you can tidy and refine as you go. this looks like a great place to start for me.

Passing by to your WIP to say hello and to encourage you to paint further!
Your first piece is super for a first time... even for a third or fourth hahaha.
I started painting when internet access on my country was only for a few people. All I got were B&W papers without pictures explaining how to dry brush and that you can make a "shade" with a darker colour.... the Dark age of miniature painting... xD
Now you can get completely overwhelmed with information in comparison. Take your time!

Looks like a great start to the new mini! And like Coyote said- you can be as messy as you want as long as your paints are nice and thin!
