Thanks guys I hope that i will get some decent money for it but you never know...
As to the rusty paintjob... I started with drybrushing everything with tinbitz than boldgun metal. Than on some elements I\'ve put some scorched brown, vermin brown and some ink washes of chestnut ink and black ink. Finally in some places I stipled with blazing orange.

Those are pretty much the same colors I\'m using to weather the pipework on my Hybrid base, only I\'m trying to get the look of aged copper -- Vallejo Game Carne Obscura (dark brown, love that name!), GW Bestial Brown and GW Fiery Orange...followed by some Vallejo Model Patina Verdigris.

The pipes on the base have to be darker, though. I really do like your rust.

I like it... If you going for aged copper I would add some green to it... very thin wash of green should look nice like patina or mold. damn i need to invest some money in Vallejo paints...
I need to know where did you buy those valves they look great.

I\'m working the copper up with Vallejo Model Patina Verdin (Verdigris Glaze) in spots:

I\'m a slow paint, though, so it\'ll take a while to go through so many thin layers.

The valves come from a Danish-produced sprue of a railroad fuel/water system by Heljan -- the sprues seem out of production, though, can\'t find them in the stores anymore, which is a real drag as I have almost none of the valves left.

I should be posting this in the Hybrid base WIP thread. Sorry for the thread hijack, all!

I give up!

It seems like every single day, someone else mentions this to me, asking about what happened and when I\'m going to paint it.

Well, I just finished updating my blog site\'s visual appearance, and I think it\'s about time to christen it with pictures of the Gargant itself being painted.

Which, of course, requires that I pick up a brush.

So I did!

I figured I\'d paint it in the order I built it. I don\'t know why, it just seemed like the right thing to do... So, I started with the claw arm.

There\'s a couple of other pictures at the link in my signature of this piece, most of the earlier painting stages where I was trying out various things like simply drybrushing onto it, but I think it\'s improving to the point where it\'s time for me to add some splashes of color to it - I was thinking I\'d pick that thick, chunky cable on the arm out in a yellow color, make the smaller cables a bunch of random assorted shades, and maybe paint ork glyphs or checkers on it somewhere, though I haven\'t quite figured out where there is room for that yet.

Anyway; yes, you guys win. It\'s being painted. Huzzah, hooray, and so forth.

God help me.

Oh man, I\'ve been waiting for you to post pics forever. I\'m relieved to see that you\'ve stayed with it, and must say that your results so far show great promise.

So I\'m just going to say thank you for sharing this project with us, and hope you post many more pics.

Going to raise this thread out of the abyss for a bit.

A rare mood struck me the other day - the mood to paint. I figured I would monopolize on this rarity and direct it towards the project people bug me most about.

Let\'s start with a bit of a refresher. This was the \'before\' - a coat of Krylon rust primer applied liberally to the entire model.

pg11.jpg

The color I ended up with on the claw arm was a darker brown than this primer allowed, but I\'ve worked out something of a painting method. More on that later, though - for now, I\'ll put some pictures up. I should mention that my lighting in my present apartment is fairly poor, so some of the colors might not come out true to life. I should also mention that there\'s a couple more in-progress photographs over at my blog site, but they\'re mostly of the head..

Let\'s start with the head:

pipgargant15.jpg

Following these photographs I touched the teeth up a bit by giving them another coat of red, but it doesn\'t look too much different.

Though the head isn\'t done, I thought I\'d do the same treatment to the body:

pipgargant18.jpg

I\'ve been giving this thing a decent drybrushing with boltgun metal, then washing it with scorched brown and vermin brown after to tone the colors down a bit and add a rusty appearance back to it. After I add the base colors to the body, I\'ll be hitting it up with a diluted black ink wash as well to bring out some of the details a bit better.

Honestly, it\'s not my best painting because I am sorely out of practice, but I\'m sort\'ve happy to just get this moving again. Things like my checker patterns or the glyphs are sloppy, and I know it. I\'ll work on touching them up as I go.

As I mentioned, it\'s hard to get accurate colors with one excessively bright light, but these should give you an idea of what the rusty parts look like:

(this one\'s from before I started picking colors out on the body)

Couple questions for you guys:

The feet. I blacked the spikey bits out in anticipation of painting them. My initial feeling was to make them all red, but the thought of making them various colors popped into my head and I\'m not sure what to go with. Part of me wants to do random blues and yellows and reds on the toe spikes, but I don\'t know if that would look too colorful. What do you guys think I should do?

Also, I\'m trying to pick a few plates out on the body for coloring - like a solid blue or green armor plate with a space marine decal on it to suggest it\'s freshly looted - but I can\'t figure out which plates are a good choice for the treatment. I don\'t want to do it on the head at all so it doesn\'t get distracting, but two or three good spots on the torso should do it. Any thoughts?

Hmmm... bear in mind that I am a little drunk at the moment:

As far as the spikey bits, I am inclined to the red, black, or beat up silver look. Its orky, but consistent.

On the other hand, I think the body plates should possibly be made up of materials from different SM chapters (Ultramarines, Dark Angels, Templars, Blood Ravens).

I don\'t know if you are a an avid player of the game, but if you have a gaming rival (as I do, since a little friendly competition makes you a better player) then make the bits from his favorite chapter or race.

Just a few inebriate ramblings...

I just tried colors out on one of the feet and it looks sort\'ve silly. Too many colors concentrated in one place. I think I\'ll just red them all.

I\'d limit the amount of blue you use on this guy. I just think it\'s going to look out of place.

You\'ve got green eyes going on, so black, red, and white are the choice colours to complement those.

I\'d give the yellow a miss as well.

Some beiges and greys might also work, though, as they could represent scrap rolled off of IG tanks.

I really think the best way to make these colours work would be to tone them down a bit. you could do this with some washes, or with a \"finger painting\" technique that i like to use. it is very orky..

The basic idea is that you get some fairly watered down browns and apply them over the area you want to dull down, then you use your fingers to play with how the paint finishes on there. Quite often it involves wiping most of it off, but if you use various shades of brown it helps to add a dirty look with all kinds of muck. I will try to get my drilling machine back from a friends house which i used this on. Its not original, but man, i tell you, it is alot of fun to do. A bit messy tho...
