Thanks for the encouragement! I had time to do a little this evening, so have made some progress on the fabric parts. I've decided to leave the patterns a simple pale version of the main cloak colour. Everybody seems to do them contrasting but I'm not sure that looks best.

I can't decide if I should do the other side red or green, to stay in theme (I'll still do the shoulder pads green).

I also like the subtle touch, it looks like freehand with shadow and highlight... I would have not thought about it, I have a tendency to always search the maximum contrast where it should not be... Good lesson for me!
If you do the shoulder pad green, I would say do it also for the other side of the cloak, one additional color (red) might be too much...

Good advice. I've gone for the green. Base coat is Caliban green, with highlights only up to loren forest, so it stays quite dark. The first attempt I highlighted lighter but it made the mini look to busy and it is already busy enough.

So the cream and green are out of the way. I'm going to avoid using any metalics on this (for the first time ever) and I've made a first pass. I'll update tomorrow, once I have more done but for now it looks like this...

Right then. Turmiel is now finished. I planned not to use any metals but did use a bronze in the end. Happy with the result but there are (as always) a few things that I'd do differently next time.

Now all I need to do is choose if I paint the king's hand next or Al-vianna.

Thanks 10 ball!

Well, I started on the King's Hand. Beautiful sculpt, with incredibly fine detail. From the little I've done I know I'm going to enjoy it. I may use this mini as an excuse to get my bases done as well, as I think it deserves something special (no idea what yet though). Maybe I should do something themed, as I will be painting more KD minis (Already have a flower knight on order).

First real test of the new GW dry brushing paints. Quite nice actually. I was half expecting the pigment to be a bit too chalky but they go on quite smoothly. Looks a bit rougher in the photo than it really is but that's down to the scale. The details are really very fine.

As for colours I think I'll go for rich purples and golds but that may change. I'm tempted to try some freehand on the fabric too...

Photo shows a basecoat of dryad bark, a highlight of balor brown and a dry brush with tyrant skull and terminatus stone. I'll probably give it an ink treatment to soften it a little too.

A little progress this evening. Just planning colours really but have mad a start on the cloth. Still needing some glazes and so on but as I though; it's a lovely mini to work with.

Thanks KruleBear. I'm pleased with it, although I have added some glazes, which fade from blue to red. I think it gives more interest and depth.
Also managed to make a start on some of the armour. I'll be going a touch lighter then glazing with turquoise and edging in gold. I think most details will be gold but have to decide on NMM or TMM.

Any advice?

TMM. I feel it would help this piece stand out more. Good looking TMM always works better than NMM no matter how well it is executed. Plus, I have a feeling that most folks will be trying to do NMM on the Kingdom Death pieces.

I love your DA Librarian. Blues look awesome.

I look forward to seeing Ephrael in situ with some nice big pictures.

Great work all around!

Thanks Eric. I think you may be right but I've not a really good attempt at NMM yet. I think this might be the model to try it. Maybe I'll do a bit of both and see which I prefer.

Just out of curiosity where are you based?

Damn! I really must do some basing soon!

So, a bit more prgress this evening. I'm liking things so far but open to suggestions and critique.

Spot the flower Knight I've been cleaning up too. Probably the nicest mini I've ever seen. Beautifully sculpted.

Coming up really nicely... Like the purple and blue with really high contrast as the cloth folds are really deep! I also like that the purple cloth has subtle variations from a more blueish to a more pinkish purple! The gold NMM looks really good on the belt buckle, for a first NMM try, thumb up :good:.

The librarian looks great! The kings hand is looking really good too, the colors compliment each other very well and you have some really nice transitions going on. Looking forward to more !
