Great job, love his unshaven look :) also like the blue purse, great contrast in colours against the red.

Cheers 10 ball!

I decided to start on a non GW figure. I've been quite taken by the trollblood sculpts and plan on getting a mountain king in the new year, so decided to grab one of the others to start with. I particularly like the Grissel figure, so that is my first.
I've started with the skin, as usual (I like to work my way out layer by layer) and pinched Mike McVey's idea of warming things up with some flesh tones. I used lahmian medium to make a glaze with some bugmans glow. Works pretty well I think.

I'd love to hear your thoughts. I doubt I'll be painting tartan on these but you never know. I was thinking more greys/browns with deep red accents...

Had a little time to paint today, so here is an update. I cannot decide on colour for the cloth, so any suggestions welcome. Not too keen on tartan (or my ability to paint it!).

Really excellent! How long to you spend on one mini? It seems that you are painting quite fast!
Really good job so far, like all your minis!

Thank you. I don't really know. Probably between four and six hours for a human mini at this scale. I think I will take a lot longer once my kingdom death figures arrive!

Did a little bit more today. This is the second attempt at the robes. I did them grey first time but wasn't happy. Also I should have looked closer during prep as the surface is quite rough in some places. Oh well, next time! Here's my progress. I just put some gloss on the gems. Doesn't look great in the pic but looks nice in real life.

Well, after numerous attempts at painting patterns (and failing) I've finished Grissel. Overall I'm pleased but a few things bother me. What are your thoughts?

Looks good, but not a big fan of the scarf ends... Blending doesn't look so smooth.
The gem is ace, really like the way it is popping out from the other colors!
For the bronze maybe you can try to oxidized it with a verdigris glaze, with a tint of your skin color in it... it will make the bronze popping out too...

But as usual, solid painting and done really fast! Now that you mentioned Kingdom of Death, cannot wait to see your new mini painted!

Thanks boubi. You're right about the scarf. That was about the fifth attempt. I should probably have removed and stripped it really. Next time!
Good idea about the verdigris. I'm a big fan of that look and it would work well here. I'll definitely do that and update my photos.

I'm really excited about the kingdom death minis. Hope they arrive soon. In the meantime I have a few GW minis I might have a go at. Probably the new plastic librarian but I also have a few normal plastic marines that I might mess with. Back in the late 80s I used to field mentor legion and have a beena fan of the idea (and colours) ever since. Shame they seem to have turned into a normal chapter these days but I am still tempted to do the 2 special units.
I just need to plan some fun conversions to show the experimental equipment they should have.

Just started on Turmiel. Another lovely plastic figure from GW. Plastic has certainly come on well since I last bought any.

Boubi is right. You seem to by painting these very quickly, without sacrificing quality! I'd be hard pressed to get a base coat done in the time you're finishing a whole mini!

Ooh ooh! No painting today but my King's Hand has arrived. Beautiful mini and amazing detail. The sculpt is very very nice and hardly needed any cleanup. I had to fill a couple of tiny bubbles and smooth one small mild-line but otherwise excellent quality. I hope the Flower Knight is as good.

I'll hold off starting the paint job until I finish the marine.

Which mini do you refer as King's Hand, is it KD mini? It seems like an interesting mini with good quality...

So what will you do on Turmiel? Dark blue base then lighter blue highlight... Cape color? And this time some NMM? I see that you prefer TMM and use it on all your mini... So time for a change... I would say that NMM helps you with TMM, even if not an expert of both I found out that applying NMM technique to TMM has really good results!

Happy painting, and keep posting, always interesting following WIP thread and yours is particularly nice!

Thanks for the kind words!
I've not done much for a few days, what with christmas and all but here is a little progress from this evening.
I'm going with a hint of green in the armour, although you can't see it well in the photo. Pretty pleased with how smooth the blue has turned out.

I've started a base coat on the fabric but going to sleep on it, as not sure about the colour. I may take it almost to white. What do you think?
