Insane bill in Georgia

Apparently the State government in Georgia has a serious problem with female vaginal piercings, so much so that they are in the midst of passing a law that would make it illegal for peicing studios to perform these types of piercings. A mandatory minimum (the worst idea America has ever had next to slavery and apartheid) sentance of 2 years with a maximum sentance of 20 years for those in violation. Am I the only one who thinks this is incredibly fugging ridiculous?

Here\'s a link with more info and contact information (Aka email addresses) of all members of Georgia\'s congress, or maybe just those in the house. I\'m not entirely sure which. Anyway, here it is...

This whole section of the forum tends to not be mini related, look at the smoking thread. Seriously, it\'s general discussion! I really do want to know if anyone else thinks this is a idiotic law!:flip::bouncy:

Somewhere, yesterday, in my rant about the WA thread I mentioned my state legislature having done something stupid, and that I would go concern myself with that and leave the WA\'ers alone.

This was it.

While you\'re at it, have you heard about THIS one?

Call me silly, but I don\'t think you should be allowed to participate in American Government when you apparently couldn\'t stay awake in American Government class in high school. It\'s called \'checks and balances\', pretty basic American stuff.

And Syco, if we stop being OT in this forum, well, there pretty much won\'t BE a forum. ;)

Wow, Darth, that\'s scary stuff indeed. Wouldn\'t that kinda make the Supreme court useless and impotent? I\'m thinking that France is looking better and better....:flip::bouncy:

No France. Never. ;)

However, I am thinking that a third political party in power sure would be nice. One like...oh, I don\'t know...the Libertarians? :)

Edit: I will say, having read the bill, that the main thrust of it is to eliminate the practice among some religions of a non-Christian orientation (whole other arguments could arise from this, but leave it aside for now) of female circumcision - the \'piercing\' bit was added toward the end of the process, but apparently raised absolutely no eyebrows within the voting chamber.

Unfortunately they are doing so bad right now they had to get signatures just to stay on the ballot down here. I, of course, was more than happy to oblige. :flip::bouncy:

Yes, it\'s a sad thing. If you actually TALK to a lot of Americans, the responses they will give you will almost always fall in with the Libertarian platform - and yet the party never seems to get the support that seems to be right at it\'s fingertips. Most Americans seem convinced that it\'s the Two Evils only, and they must choose the lesser.

*sigh*

Taer & DarthFoley...

Just needed to say, it warms the cokles of my heart (whatever THEY are???) to hear you two talk.:D

I am a firm believer in minimalist government & pro-freedom. And, Taer, having lived in both places, you don\'t know what stupid government regulation IS until you\'ve lived in New York! Compared to this place, Texas is anarchy.
GOd, I miss it. :(

Vaginal Piercings

Won\'t women who want piercings just go out of state...or are they going to fine women who have them...will they be doing inspections of state employees...will they inspect new hiree\'s.

This is the point I was trying to make in the smoking debate...As soon as you let the government step in and pass laws on small businesses and people\'s personal habits you set a precedent...this forms a building block from which they can go and take other personal freedoms that they don\'t see as proper away.
That my friends, is why you need to fight any laws being passed that affect others rights...even if you don\'t like the habit, even if it doesn\'t affect you...because the next law might.

Sometimes folks, it is better to grin and bear it, rather than letting the government get involved.
:)

Gee, that sounds familiar...where have I seen that before? Oh yeah, my last post on the smoking thread! Come on people, evil dave is right! And as for Texas being anarchy, if New York is that bad I\'m very very scared of the East Coast...:flip::bouncy:

:D Just pointing out that Alaska has more Libertarians in the state government than any other state. The problem with getting libertarians elected most places is that they either don\'t believe anyone should be in control so they won\'t run, or they get painted up in the media like the Ruby Ridge family. Up here, most families are very much like the whackos that scare voters in the real world and they get to vote in the laws.

Clearly, the people writing the laws up here are insane. One example is that we can carry concealed weapons without a permit. Another is that every other village in the borough (like a county, but the size of Indiana) is dry. I actually know people that have been convicted of bootlegging. We don\'t need to register our cars, or pay state income tax. 65% of our high school students smoke. I read recently in the paper about a man whom detectives determined committed suicide by stabbing himself in the chest with a harpoon and running himself over with a truck (because murders involve a lot of paperwork, I assume).

I\'m not saying a lack of government is good or bad, but be careful what you wish for.

THe basic premise in New York is:

If it ain\'t required, it\'s forbidden :(

And HOoRay for Alaska!!!!
Another problem with ANY \"third party\" elected official is that they will recieve major opposition from BOTH of the main parties and have a very hard time accomplishing anything. And if you are anything other than a mainstream politician doing \"business as usual\" the media will make you out to be a fool or a clown. ie - Jesse Ventura

Well, we have had \"sucides\" involving individuals shooting themselves 13 times in the head with a bolt action rifle - and we have one of the few libertarians I know of in Congress - and he is a real wacko.

YOu say this like it was a BAD thing :D
I thought it was a great, time-honored Texas tradition to elect wacko\'s to all levels of government.lol I mean, didn\'t half of the legislature recently run away and hide in Oklahoma or something? I mean, at least Texas politics are entertaining, not just frightening or disgusting like here in NY.

Yeah, the Democrats left the state to hold up the redistricting process. Course something similar occured here in the 1970\'s when the republicans hid out in the Hornet\'s Nest - course they never left the state, just the capitol building - the republicans holed up in a hotel downtown.
