Took the winter out from painting, too little natural light and too much to do when it is light :) got an update on the snakeman/sslyth and trying out a colour scheme for some High Elves I want to paint up. The Snakeman tail scales are getting redone and the orange armour on the body too. Im happy with the gold and the grey on the shoulder/ back plates.

Been getting stuck in about this mini because I want to get it out of the way now. It's been a bit of a nightmare tbh, misaligned "finecast" with bubbling on it and no matter what I do to it when I take some pictures of it im always noticing more I'm unhappy with :(

It actually looks OK in the flesh . . . meh ah well.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for help with the scales? I've tried a few different ways of doing them but again not 100% with any. Been thinking about going from Orange at the head down to Yellow at the tail but not sure how it will turn out.

Sorry again for the rotten photos, taken on my phone.

I would suggest googling pictures of actual snakes and other scaly critters, maybe you will get inspired,

Thanks Mar, thats exactly what I did and it really helped. This is about as far as I'm taking this miniature, there are other bits I could pick at but if I do that I'll end up throwing it against a wall :) Gonna start work on the harlequin asap.

I'm working on some assault marines, nothing special but just to pass the time before I start the Death Jester (trying to finish off all my old projects so I'm only working on one at a time).

Anyone have any ideas for a cheap and easy way to make flames/smoke from the jet packs?

had an idea involving layers of clear plastic but it would be really hit or miss

Easy & cheap, cotton wool. Maybe experiment with dying some in very thinned paint or inks and fixate with pva glue? Or sculpt some billowing smoke using green stuff?

OK, so I used cotton buds and soaked them in my brush water (basically just watered down chaos black). I also did a quick sketch of what i was thinking for my death jester, the red will hopefully be as blood-like as I can get it and the rest will be monochrome.
