I'm getting too old for this :)

I think you're doing very well on your elf so far, maybe try some paint glazes around the vines on his cloak. That should add some shading and maybe kick that lack of inspiration funk with him.

The marines are looking great too!

Ok so the (oversized) studs and the wolf tail are on, please be gentle with the standard as I have not really got any experience doing anything like that before.
Only a base coat on the trim/studs and lots of tidying and refining to do.
As for the base I was thinking about a spacehulk style environment. I always loved the old diaoramas in the Rogue Trader book.

Ok so I've had a week off. Rather than focusing on one mini I have been working on a few.
First up we have the Space WolfView attachment 8273
I still have a lot to do to this, started the aquilla, and I bottled out of doing NMM.

Next I have been getting bits and peices together for the base of my elf. I was really struggling for ideas on what to do until I went out to the local woods for a wander. Got a couple of bits of bark from one of the trees and I'm planing on basing it on this. I have put a pic up of how I plan on basing it. I used spare bits of green stuff to make leaves and I am planing on putting them on the base like a drift clumping up at the root of the tree.

View attachment 8276For a bit of comparison I have put up one of the last minis I painted proir to starting back up again recently. It suffers (like all my minis) from looking ok when I am looking at it in person but when photographed I can see so many flaws. I love painting the old rogue trader marine minis but they just dont have the same level of detail as curent and at times.

Lastly I am putting up my first ever sculpt. Now I want to say that I have never attempted a full mini before. This is more for practice than anythin and I have already learned quite alot of thngs not to do :) (it's amazing how many of them there are). I used up all my green stuff to get to where I am. The waist is rotten, too bulky to start with and I assembled it the wrong way. I will probably cut it off and see if I can start it again. The pose is gonna be in a kind of John Woo style with double bolt pistols, the marine falling backwards firing. The idea behind it is that the armour is based pre Horus Heresy, I came up with it when I was reading one of the Dark Angels books. There are a few mentions of the armour they wore to fight the great beasts on Caliban and how it was in the same style as powered armour but much less advanced and in need of repair. Can anyone point me in the direction of a decent guide and where I can pick up cheap materials for sculpting.

Looks like you got that base thing cracked :) I remember the first time I saw a marine painted white with blacklining, I was so exited I had to buy it lol, this one looks great, very clean :) Love the wolf, and the stripe on his helmet too, great stuff.

Not glued anything yet but I've had an idea for the base and wondered what you all thought. I want to put a drift of leaves around the roots at the bottom and have pools of water in the basin parts of the bark. Was going to use balsa wood glue for this but if anyone has any toher ideas please share.

That base suits him nicely, very dramatic. You have a nice contrast of materials going on there. Just a thought, but have you considered perhaps making the wood vines matte? Might further enhance the contrast between shiny armour, matte cloth, shiny leaves, matte wood.

The sculpts look good also. Phantom Titan in Epic scale it seems?

I tried a couple of effects on the wood but I finished the one I picked with a GW wash (Gryphonne Sepia). Would a thin layer of dry brush remove the gloss effect do you think? Im really limited with my paints, bid the whole base with 3 colours and 2 washes.

Yeah Phantom titan Epic scale, I've got a mental image of part Crystal, part Wraithbone design. Really want to get the lines cleaner than on the marine sculpt and I want it to flow like the Eldar mini should. There is a steep learning curve to working with the green stuff.

Hmmm, a light drybrush might help. Best to try it out on a little piece to see that it doesn't change the shade & tint too much.

About 80% done, got the bow and quiver on the back. The hair and face too have to be finished, just base coated. I know the standard isn't great but it is miles ahead of where I was prior to finding this forum. Hoping to keep improving and learning from you all :)
Meph I tried the dry brush and it didn't help a great deal, got another couple of ideas so will try them.
