Thanks for all the comments everyone - much appreciated. As I mentioned that project turned out to be a real labour of love and it was a lot of fun. Hopefully in the next week or so I'll have some good photos of him to post.

BAM: HAHAHAHA Thanks, bud. Not sure I would put him on that throne, but I can think of another more suitable place to mount him (yes, I have an idea for a display board that I'll work on soon).

Hairster: You're comment really resonated. I realized that I subconsciously was working towards this. Goblins personify the spirit of Blood Bowl, and I like to think I captured a bit of the goofiness and glory of the game.

Now its back to finishing the Shadespire orcs that have been on the workbench for far too long. I've only had a bit of painting time, but I think I've started to resolve how to fix the things that have been bugging me. I added red to the belly of Bonekutta, and that seems to improved him. It still needs some more work and it might be a bit too dark yet, but I feel like its headed in the right direction. And I've got a plan to improve the black a bit. I'm working on these two simultaneously to hopefully speed things up a bit - still having to remind myself that they are for gaming not just display. Gurzag is still mostly untouched, so lots of work ahead. I have a tournament with them on the 29th and I need to get a new Blood Bowl team done for early June, so the clock is ticking.

Someone is starting to look mean. Overall, I really love the Shadespire orc sculpts - it seems like GW has figured out how to bring character back in to their figures after being a bit dull for awhile. I need to get busy on these long overdue boyz and I'm going to end up grinding to get them finished for an upcoming event. It's always a good feeling to make progress on projects that have been sitting on the workbench for far too long, and nothing like an event to help speed up the process. So far, I'm pretty happy with how they're turning out even if I'm not overly pleased with the black parts, but I also don't want restart the whole group. I'll power through and make the best of it, and then move on to the next project.

Hi there! just wanted to comment that I really like the used feel of the armour. Nice drawing patterns too.

Thanks everyone - your comments and feedback are always appreciated. It is fun to share the process with like-minded people (I know you all know this already).

The weathering has been a fun adventure of learning. Last night I mostly finished Hakka, though not sure how happy I'm with the weapons. They will have to be fine for now as I have get going on Gurzag so the warband is done for Sunday as we're having a tournament. They'll be fine for use if I don't finish, but I'd really like to get them done and off the workbench. What I suspect will happen is that I 'finish' them enough for the event and then spend a bit more time on them to really finish them up. Here is where the war band stands as of last night - poor photo and all.

The one thing that I really dislike about these guys though are the bases. Annoyed that GW incorporated the orc's feet into the base so without a whole bunch of work, stuck working with these.

Coming together brilliantly Frzntoz....as others have said that armour weathering looks superb.

Know what you are saying about the feet on bases....have the same issues with a couple of the Skaven - leaving you with either impossible to reach painted areas if you premount or gaps to try to fill mid skin tone once mounted up...

Keep up the solid work on these though...they will make an awesome unit.

Finally got started on the boss. Is he going to be done for the Sunday event? Nope. While I felt compelled to rush and get him finished, it was the wrong decision. I've put a lot of work in to the rest of the war band, so slamming out the boss seems to defeat what I started out to do. Instead, I've got plans to make him stand out above his boyz - I was stumped for awhile on what to do with Gurzag, which is why he's the last to be painted. I've started with his skin and I'm happy with it so far. The cape isn't attached yet as I've still got some work on the areas mostly covered by the cloak.

In any case, I'll take them 'as is' to the event.

good decision, theres no point rushing now. there will be other events.

very nice start on the boss dude. less is looking nice and the chequers with the weathering is grand. will look forward to see what you do with him.

Sunday's event has come and gone. I made more progress on Gurzag, but it was mostly just fleshing out the remaining base coats. So I was a bit surprised when my boyz got the best painted as there was a number of other well painted war bands. I also ended up third for the event, so it was a great day of gaming. Next step is get them done and off the workbench. Here's what the boyz looked like just prior to packing them up and heading out the door.

Not much painting time so far this week, so only a little progress on bringing the black armour up to where it matches the others. The difference can be seen when comparing the leg versus his hand. I'm pretty sure I won't paint black this way again in the future - take as an experiment and lesson learned.

Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to able to a more extended paint session in. There is a local painting contest this weekend too, so I might need to whip up a display base for Turd if I'm able to make it out. Next week is a week of vacation with the intent to spend it primarily painting.
