Foxtail's Ongoing Painting Journey

This technique reminds me one for reproducing old wood furniture, that uses (spanish word-->)"Betún de Judea" which is actually diluted asphalt.... Very interesting!! Thanks for sharing the link.
PS: When I first saw your picture I though that you stripped down the spaceship LOL

Crickey... coating the whole model? Looks good though. I use a variant of the technique, but instead of coating the whole model with undiluted paint, I use an oil paint was at about 1:8 paint:turpentine. Oh, odourless turpentine of course, no smell.

The benefit of the thinned was is that there is way less to clean up. In general I just have to do some touch-ups here and there.

Interesting technique Maenas, I can see why it would work for that job.

The AK Interactive enamels are fairly thin already, they can start to pool when spraying. I'd definitely thin them down and be more selective with the placement if I was using a brush, but the airbrush puts such a light layer on that it's a doddle to remove again. Using proper artist oil paints with a lot of turps should work exactly the same. I've been meaning to try a whole model in oils at some point

Progress. Slow progress.

Stormwolf is almost there. Dreadnought is coming along nicely. Both will be finished by the end of the week.
Commission work may have burnt up my soul, if I ever say I'm taking one for more than a couple of minis again, please section me.

Hoping to get a nice little Forge World Legion Praetor painted up over the Easter long weekend, just to get away from this infernal blue for a couple of days.

Just a quick question about the metals,.. is it just the lighting or is it bronze on the dreadnought and gold on the vehicle??

Gold on the vehicle. Dreadnought has just had a base coat and shade, it'll be brought up to the same gold.

Opinion time. I put a little bit of effort into converting the forge world Praetor to be a bit more Nurgley. No particular reason, not like I'm tailoring the stuff I do to GW's upcoming releases so it sells on eBay a little easier...

Now it's reasonably subtle as far as Nurgle goes at the moment, but I'm toying with the idea of a big tentacle coiling round his outstretched arm and up through his hand. Similar to Gutrot Spume:

That exact 'I'm pointing at you' tentacle pose.

Now I don't know if that might be a bit much on a mini that doesn't feature distended bowels, jaws in places jaws shouldn't be, and intestines. The stand out mutation so far is a big antler on his head.

What at do you guys reckon? Crank up the nurgle or not?

I'm not a big Nurgle fan, although I recognise that there are some punctual exceptions that I like. Not knowing much of the lore behind it... how about something half mutated? or still inner fighting the nurgle rot??
I mean... What if that hand is not a menacing hand but a last grasp for help?

Its been a little while since I checked on your thread Fox, but I love what you're doing with these vehicles. I know they are commission but when I'm rating minis here on the site, I find a lot of the Warhammer 40k vehicles (especially Space Marines) look kind of the same and uninspiring to me as someone who does not paint or play the game. The scheme you're working on here looks incredible and is going to look amazing on the tabletop. I'm looking forward to seeing the final product!

Kuribo - cheers buddy. I was hired for the work I did on the big knight titan, only seems right to continue in that style for these vehicles. Both these models are done now so I'll get some photos up tomorrow when I've got some decent light.

Maenas, BaM, Sicks - thanks for the advice! I fear BaM and Sicks are right, and Papa Nurgle would be generous in his blessings. But Maenas gave me some inspiration in where I go from here. The far side of his body will be ripe with mutations and the near side will be much cleaner, with the hand reaching out unblemished.

Cheers guys!

Haven't organised the pics of the vehicles yet. But ready for this weekend I've been working on my Nurgle Lord.

Swapped the side of the body that was getting the mutations. But I've managed to forge a couple of half-decent tentacles and I'm looking forward to painting him this weekend.

Vehicles look great, Foxtail. And of course I support your Nurgle-izing of that praetor.
Those nicely done, fairly discreet mutations are well integrated into the arm. I would check to make sure the guy could actually straighten out his head (look straight ahead), as I think he might seem a little silly looking always to the left.

Thanks for the feedback Toad!

He can look straight ahead, it's just looking right that would be uncomfortable. But who ever said that a hideous, plague-infested antler had to be comfortable :D

Hard to tell in those photos but I deliberately placed the horn quite far forward on his head and jutting straight out rather than angled back. Both for reasons on being able to swivel his head and because the current GW blight kings have a similar style.

Looking good Foxtail....that armour plate offers you a nice opportunity for a little bit of freehand as well maybe? I like the fact that you have not overdone the Nurgleation (TM). Hoping to see some nice dank, grubby rust laden armour on this.

Getting me excited for those new plague marines GW were teasing at Adepticon.

Keen to see more of your vehicle pics too when you get chance.

Zab

Almost Perftec! Aw, crap.
Good stuff, keep some of his legion colors though as if it's early days after the heresy. That will put it over the top. HH stuff sells fast but no one has really bridged the gap between HH and 40K ;) Hit that market and you have a license to print money...
