It`s a different kind of painting stone - I like that.

I`d recommend to not use so many inks (?), it seems like the recesses between the stones are very shiny. If it`s just looking like that don`t matter. Otherwise you could use some matte varnish, add some water and gently paint the whole tower with a thin coat of this. Should help. If you re not sure about this test it on a small are first.

cheers Sleipnir, the "shiny" is caused by my impatience, it's actually a citadel wash thats still wet. But I didnt go with that in the end.

I will try to post more pictures later tonight after work but she who must be obeyed requires "us time" and i need to catch up on my scary movie quota for the week.

Looks good so far, although the tower and its rock seem to blend abit much together, makes it hard to see where on stops and the other starts

True they do tend to blend together but this is the look I was intending for a couple of reasons, the first is I really don't want to detract attention from Cang, keeping the base fairly uniform will make him stand out even more. secondly most buildings are made from the surrounding stone, in this case the sculpt actually promotes the idea that it is made of the same stone. Also the camera I am using is being very harsh on this colour scheme hopefully i will be able to get better shots nearer completion.

keep the comments coming I really do take it all on board either to try and explain how i see this thing progression or for my opinions to be swayed somewhat :)

Really liking the stone work, almost sandstoney but not quite! So good to see someone not going ooo stone... paint it grey! Something I'm massively guilty of, last year I tried to add more sandstoney rocks into my bases but they always turned out terrible and now I've fallen back into the generic grey limbo, wouldn' mind a rundown on your technique and colours so i could give it a try if you're willing.

@Kris370 - thanks for the interest, the stonework starts off with a base coat of vallejo desert yellow with "shadows" randomly painted/washed onwith a mix of black and leather brown the highlights are then worked up using desert yellow adding more and more white until you get the desired effect. the key part is the paint is very thin. i added some "pinky" streaks at random (limestone and sandstone both have some pink tinges) using thinned down cavalry brown, hope this helps you in your quest to get out of the grey :) this is my first time away from the paint it grey and drybrush the hell out of it and i must say I quite like it.

have tried a new photo taking type thing for todays update and hope the colours come out a lot better than previously, the camera may have focussed a lot better too, enjoy and as always please give me feed back. remember there is no good or bad feedback just feedback and how it is interpretted :)

The tower looks great :) just take those silly chicken feet of it :p

Really comming along nicely :)

As a complete aside did you order Kang from CMON, and if so did you have any customs problems? Charges etc?

Thanks.

yeah ordered from CMON sailed straight through customs with no charges (labelled as gift - cheers CMON :) ) only draw back was Parcel Farce at this end that decided to try and deliver it twice on same day (within 15 minutes of each other) so I had to go to a local post office and collect instead of being able to redirect to my work place :(

Glad you like the tower but unfortunately the chicken foot has to stay ;)

That tower is SO GREAT!
Now you get to stress over getting dragon boy to look JUST as realistic and as good as the tower.
Good luck with that!
That's why I have 6 boxes of big awesomeness just sitting, I fear to touch them with brushes....LOL.

@ Jesterz - thanks man that means a lot, I have a question about a project of yours too, that gorgeous Cassar of yours, will it be making an appearance any time soon? it seems like everyone who gets a Cassar paints it in secret and never shows it to anyone and I must say I'm really looking forward to seeing how that one looks :)

@ simeon6 - thank you

the tower isn't finished yet, still got the inside to do and some more ivy/clematis to put on then on to the main event, the big kahuna, the big cheese, the big daddy, that frikkin huge piece of resin sat on my painting table glaring at me and making me nervous as hell at starting the thing.

Nice work man! That tower has a very Mediterranean feel to it, nice earthy colours.

As for the dragon, my suggestion would be to go with a realistic colour scheme as well. More Reign of Fire rather than flashy fantasy.

Okay It's started, I have begun the work on Cang, starting small - the chicken claw on the tower and the upper part of his head, the head is looking good (to me) but Meph I have to disappoint I went with the red, I was severely tempted to try the whole reign of fire colour scheme but I have always seen Cang as a big, red, fire breathing, cow eating, BBQ on wings but it wont be a scarlet maiden oh nothe overall colour is red but there will be many tones of purple and orange and even rotting flesh thrown into the mix. I may be able to show a glimps of his head later for you all to see.

thanks for watching

I really like the colours you have used on the stone tower and rocks, as mentioned - better than grey!!! Now let's see that mighty dragon!!!

It has received some battle damage from the overseas trip. I need to do some touch-ups and a little bit of re-sculpting, so it could be a long while before it receives paint...LOL.
