I received a forum complaint this morning about this thread, but without any text as to why. So I\'m having to make some educated guesswork. Either it\'s about the above comment I\'ve quoted or its about the attempted lighthearted hi-jacking of this thread. If it is about the Hi-jacking then tough, as in my opinion this thread has gone well past it\'s usable shelf life.

Now Supervike has tried to moderate this thread very nicely and gave a hint to be careful of crossing lines. (i.e. Forum Rule Number 1). {Which you seem to have gnored and that irritates me on Jim\'s behalf.}

If you can\'t understand that this site isn\'t about Cool Paint Jobs or Cool Photographs, but miniatures whether fully painted, new sculptures or even wips then you are seriously restricted in your point of view.

There are overrated minis everywhere on this site, just as there are also underrated ones. A lot of it has to do with the cult of celebrity in such a small hobby. What\'s more, a lot of it has to do with - wait for it - boobies. We need to accept some things in life: nepotism (in the broader sense), flattery, brown-nosing and then, occasionally, \"The Emperor\'s New Clothes\" syndrome. Remember, a good female painter will likely score more than a good male painter simply because they have boobies and most of the site is male. Then you get your little groups from, say, Germany, France, Italy or whatever, who are in their own right already a community in their own country. Quite by accident I\'m sure, these guys/gals will often mark up work. Then there are some established folk in the forums or whatever who get that little bit more because they are liked and - indeed - respected in quite an active circle. Very occasionally, people just get it plain wrong and a mini that is average might be sporting some new-fangled technique that they think should up the score for the painter, regardless of how poorly that technique has been executed.

Though I\'m a chap who doesn\'t really care too much about the awful injustices that are apparent on the voting systems at CMoN (and they must be terrible indeed to see so many bloody threads about it ) I am yet able to see the problems for what they are: a flash in the pan, a storm in a tea cup (good post DR!), a lovers\' tiff...

Let\'s get over it, eh? :yes:

i never stated that the model wasnt a cool mini, quite the opposite, i just didnt think it deserved its spot in the top 7 days list, might be my bad brains thinking so who knows.
and the above quote was meant towards the people linking images of minis that werent in my mind at all and then pretty much denoting my mini eye.
it was never my intention to tell anyone what, who or why but since the mob apparently just couldnt let it be without some kind of sacrifice....

i also am sorry fpr any inconvenience this has created, and stated that i didnt want it to come to this.

i feel this post should be deleted and i might do the same with my account, since this page is NOT about the minis but all about the photos....

I found it incredibly funny that people was posting different miniatures to say which one was overrated.

However I disagree with some sentiment of this thread.

First that there is a great voting relativism going on. Generally you can see what minis that are too high or too low scoring and why quite easily. When he started this thread for example I instantly knew which mini he was talking about. I might have reported the mini to the mods but I saw why the scores were inflated and that no one can do anything about it which brings us to my second point.

If someone here was the editor of say NY-times. and posted their minis there for everyone to vote on I would consider that unfair. This guy posted his miniature and a link to cmon on a non-mini related site which is well-visited. Hence his scores where boosted, simple as that. Now I agree that in general these kinds of threads are unwanted but the less we aknowledge and shame people abusing the system the less will the scores matter.. and people might even start to cheat because \"everybody else does\".. or abandon the system all together.

There is a definite difference between people discussing matters and being bent out of shape about it. Storm in a teacup? At least this discussion which btw isn\'t very heated is entirely mini-related, related to this site and related to questions that face us when submitting and looking at miniatures. If we don\'t discuss this kind of stuff and try to counter it... the system will be less and less meaningful and cmon will inevitably be gone in the end or just serve as a place for people wanting to advertise their ebay auctions.

Making it sound like the scores doesn\'t matter is a double-edged dagger. On one hand it is very much true. On the other hand it contains the potential of being a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Of course this site is about the minis! BUT, as there is no possible way of displaying your minis online without PHOTOS, photos inevitably become an issue! You know as well as anyone that it is difficult to take photos that show the mini as it really look, so it should be no surprise that people will complain about the photos if they don\'t show the mini well enough. What\'s the point of giving comments on a miniature when the photos don\'t show it off properly? How can anyone give advice or suggestions on a mini when the photos don\'t show what it really looks like?

Using this site (or any miniature site) demands some sort of photography skills. There are lots of help in that area to get in the photography section here and on most miniature related boards. If you really don\'t want to have anything to do with photography, then it will be difficult for you to use the Internet as a source or platform for your hobby and/or selling your work.
