Dalsgaard's WIP

I'm finally up and running again after a two-year break and have slowly been getting used to applying paint to very small areas. Somehow the brushes seems to have gotten bigger and the details smaller...

One of the things I have wanted to try out is sculpting and I thought Nurglifying a chaos marine would be a good place to start, so I have been making weird growths, boils, and bloated bits for a couple of hours.

So far I have only used Milliput, as that was what I had available, but I think I will have to get my hands on some green stuff asap.

Third (don't ask about the second) prototype base finished and painted to check how it looks.

I'm happy with the "sculpt" (although the paint job needs a little work). Now I just need to mass produce it :)

base looks good. I like how the cracks carry into the edges.

Thanks :)

And thanks cfwheeler58. I am sure I will have fun with your care package :)

In the meantime I have Nurgled one more CSM (seen below) and have decided to paint my marines in a dirty green with bronze trimming as seen on the backpack further down. The various growths can then be used to give a little colour to the models. The backpack still needs some finishing touches, like dirt, corrosion, and scrathces and the growth isn't finished by far, but you get the idea.

I've finished my first Nurgle marine (the first mini I've finished since I restarted my painting after a two year hiatus).

I've tried a lot of stuff I hadn't really tried before on this one:
The sculpting of Nurgleness - Turned out better than I hoped, but I need to get a bit better at painting it.
Zenithal highlighting - It is the first time I've really tried to make it appear like light is coming from above. It isn't perfect, but his left shoulder pad turned out okay.
Weathering / chipping of armour - It looks better than I hoped, but I need a little better brush control.

There are a lot of things that could be done more accurately, but for a good tabletop standard I think it is pretty good.

Feel free to drop by and vote on it - http://www.coolminiornot.com/349032

Oh, and here is a picture of my photo box with a cat occupying it :-/ Apparently he didn't like not being the center of attention.

Almost Perftec! Aw, crap.
Damn, that cat is so life like, but you may need a bigger photo box for good pics of him :p

You should submit the cat photo here as a painted min1 and see what kind of scores you get.

Better still....photoshop some nurgleness on him first.....lol

Looks great. Was thinking that you need to add something to the base to break up the monotony a little more and something easy would be little worms crawling out of the cracks. It would suit the theme and break up the surface a bit.

Now, why didn't I think of that. I was trying to come up with something to "brighten" it up and could only think of skulls and broken branches.

Well, it had to happen at some point, I've begun practicing NMM.

I found an Imperial Commissar hidden away among some other minis and decided he would be perfect for some NMM. In hindsight I should probably have chosen a model with a bit larger surfaces, but nevertheless I think it has turned out rather well for my first attempt.

I'm not very good at blending so the transitions are a bit rough and with a limited number of paints I had some difficulty finding appropriate browns and yellows for the gold. Another problem, made worse by the small surfaces, is that my brush control still isn't quite good enough, so some highlights are placed a tad random.

Let me know what you think, including telling me if it looks like crap. I can (probably) handle it.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! You are doomed. That stuff is evil (and so much fun)! That looks great BTW. Just thin your layers the lighter you go and the blends will smooth out. Sometimes you can smooth it out with a little glaze of your mid tone or first highlight color too.

Thanks Zab. The armor is a bit small for me to do proper blending at my current skill level, but I am now painting the inside of the jacket with the juicing technique (seems to be easier for me than wet blending) and it is turning out alright.

I like the metallics, I have always had a hard time with NMM. I really need to try it more seriously on a figure. This one is off to a good start.

must say its a good take on nmm, very good for a first try! id say you got a pretty good idea of light placement. some smoothening and perhaps even some more contrast (on the gold especially) and its going to look kickass.

Thanks Kretcher and SkelettetS. I might try to highlight the gold up a bit.

Today I got a care-package from cfwheeler58. When I wrote a few weeks ago, that I was returning to painting and starting from scratch, he offered to send me some stuff to get off to a good start. In his PMs he hinted at what it would include, but as I opened the package, I was overwhelmed by his generosity.

As the pics below show, the package contained three Confrontation minis and three Warhammer minis, one of which is the awesome classic orc on wyvern. It also included five dropper bottles, which will come in very handy.

I am looking forward to paint these and I already have a few ideas for color schemes.

Once again, thank you Chris for this great welcome back to CMoN and the hobby :)
